The Figgy family road trip! Or how to go without sleep

Spoiler alert, free stuff and soft openings are fun. Ok, here we go! Things started off differently than planned to say the least. A small tropical system was heading up 95N so we went west and took 81S into South Carolina before we saw any sun. This added somewhere between 2 and 3 hours to our trip but it was worth it as we kept hearing 95 wasn't the road to be on that day! From 81 we headed across 77 and found something that made me think about our dear @real mad hatter:eek: I think I might just have found his second favorite place in the states! Frugal Mc Dougal's discount beverage center, the place had a sign with a goofy looking guy with a kilt on it:eek: The rest of the trip to Georgia was quiet and we spent the night at the Super 8 in Brunswick. It was clean quiet and cheap. We got a good 8 hours sleep and we would need it as the rest of the trip we never seemed to get much:D

That next morning Jim and I were up before the sun to finish packing the car and hit the road for some time over at Kennedy. I almost cried when we got there because our tour we scheduled was cancelled. But still being in a good mood from Disney we decided to make the most of it. Which in retrospect was a good idea because what we got in return was even better. I got the map out and quickly figured out what to do in what order. We did a lot of things we never did there before. We took a guided tour of the rocket garden, listened to a lecture and then we met an astronaut where James stumped her with a question about fuel. She was really nice and suggested to James when he's a bit older he should look into M.I.T. if he's still interested in engineering. From there we took a tour of the Saturn 5 area, where James met a retired engineer who also suggested M.I.T. On the way back on the bus the best thing happened we got into a soft opening to see the space shuttle Atlantis. Don't get mad but the building and presentation was so well done I thought Disney had done it. It was amazing on so many levels. The best thing there were some astronauts and engineers in there that day so we got to hear about some thing that won't be part of the regular tour. We had such fun we didn't even mind running back to the car in the rain. The next am it was up and over to Cocoa Beach for a bit and then over to the Astronauts Hall of Fame. Finally we were going to get about 7 hours of sleep before the long ride home. 6am on the road we just missed DC rush hour and made it all the way home!

Looking back the whole title is " how to go without sleep and love every minute of it" Our crazy commando style of vacation isn't for the faint of heart but it worked for us. Like I said I like free things, chocolate samples for the boys, coffee at MS Bakery and a meal(wish that one was for another reason). I also loved the soft openings Main Street Bakery (not what I was hoping for) and the Space Shuttle Atlantis, a total surprise and better than we could have imagined. All in all it was a most magical time. Some rain, yes, but nothing we couldn't handle (the puddles never went over 1/2 way up my calf). LOL at least the crowds thinned. Meeting @MouseDreaming, @Pooh'sBuddy, @disneysince71 and @KIDLOVESDISNEY was beyond, beyond great and sharing my trip with all of you is to say the least grand. Now I'm still trying to figure out how to get my pics to do anything but print, LOL At least I put a major dent in my Christmas shopping.

Ahhhhh...Ain't it strange how 47 square miles of land affects us all in different ways..Puts a smile on our faces..Weight on our stomachs...Less weight in our wallets...Brings families closer together..And gives us some of our best memories in our lifetime.;)
So true. I've already lost the 1 1/2 pounds I found there. Jim who is going to get such a pinch lost a pound while there.

I don't know but I'll try. Jim says he's Disney'd out and doesn't want to go for a while but that's what he said the last time. LOL He already is ready to watch the cruise dvd which came right before we left. First we have to get through his furlough days and then my plotting begins! SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

There wasn't much we would have changed except next time we'll skip Sci-Fi and we'll hit Kennedy first. After Disney Kennedy isn't as much fun. That is except for James who's goal is to work there and spend his days off at Disney. He has promised me when the time comes he's getting married at Disney. He likes the wedding pavillion! YEA!
