I concur....however....some people obvioulsy cannot make their own choices...or should I say "intelligent" choices. I believe that anyone should be able to make their own decisions AS LONG as it doesn't effect anyone else's rights or well being.
If you want to smoke, go right ahead. however, don't tell me its your right! Sure, but is it your right for me to have to inhale it while I try to eat my steak? or that you stand right in the door way so that everyone that comes in and out gets to smell like a stale ashtray?
Same goes for fatty foods and other things bad for you. If you want potatoes that have been cooked in a jacuzzi of oil and then blanketed with salt, them have at it. BUT!!!!! Why do I have to pay outrageous health care premiums because of your round figure?
Here in NJ, it is a "right to insure" state. You basically CANNOT be denied health care if you pursue your own benefits becuase your job doesnt provide them, etc. For me, I'm 37, dont smoke, and in great physical shape......and I get to pay $2000/month....just the same as a 42 year old who smokes 2 packs a day and is 100 pounds overweight. The law states that you can't discreminate because of pre-existing conditions, so insurance companies basically just charge any self-insured all the same rate!! GREAT!! Its so bad in NJ that there are only like 6 possible choices TOTAL for self-insured becuase all fo the companies figured out there there is no money to be made in this market. Thankfully, my company offers benefits, but it was something I though I was going ot have to pursue.
So while I do agree that people should make their own decisions, it just es me off to no end that I have to PAY for their DECISIONS!! And NO, I AM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT OVER WEIGHT PEOPLE!! It is your life, live it the way you want! But having been a fireman for 15 years, I've had to "help" enough overweight people simply becuase they could not overcome the force of gravity! So I guess I'm getting a bit biased as time goes on
