The end may be near for fireworks at Disney

1. The drones are lighter than a volleyball, and have protected rotors - they ain't going to harm anyone if they fall.
2. Cutting down on some fireworks use can be good - think about how much stuff is burned up, every night. It starts getting nuts, very quickly.
3. This opens up more nighttime shows in new locales - Animal Kingdom, anyone? Or a aerial Electrical Parade?(With Arial!)

Simple - I hope your wrong.
Just read that Disney will be using the intel shooting star drones over Disney Springs this winter to put on a light show two times a night. It is probably only a matter of time until fireworks will be replaced by these silly drones which would likely save them thousands of dollars each night as they are reusable and only require one person to operate the entire fleet.

As delicate as sensitivities and feelings are these days a falling drone could cause irreparable harm.

All that has happened is 1) Disney has introduced something new that can be seen without paying admission and hasn't taken anything away and 2) somebody with an account on this site has speculated with no information that this might lead to replacing fireworks with drones down the road.

The first should be a reason to be overjoyed. New show, new technology, nothing lost, and available at no charge! What more could we want? Hip Hip, Hurray!

The second is mere speculation, and has been denied by none other than @marni1971.

So in light of this, the choice to be despondent seems to be the ultimate in doom and gloom -- the opposite of rose-colored glasses.

Unless you were being sarcastic, in which case I apologize for not catching it.
Just overly dramatic.

This drone show is just another addition to add to the shows outside the parks. If anything I think it will replace the electrical water pageant before it replaces fireworks or just serve as a show before and after firework displays. As for Epcot their flight path is over the lake by the odyssey which leads me to think that's going to be Epcots before/ post show for illuminations just like the light Parades are for the magic Kingdom

I wish there was an unlike button.

Drones don't go bang, pop, crackle. They don't have that lovely sulfur smell.

At this rate, why don't they just tear down the parks, sit you in an easy chair in a warehouse, give you a set of VR glasses and then tell you to have a magical day. Going to go sulk now.

It's the slow march toward a WALL-E reality.

Fireworks are definitely Disney's thing, one of the biggest things that still sets them above the competition. Basically nowhere else matches Disney's displays, let alone nightly displays. There's no way they're going anywhere.

It's all fun and games until Skynet attains self awareness and we all become subservient meat bags...

and no...fireworks aren't going anywhere. Did the OP get this information from the bumper sticker on a bus drivers personal vehicle????

All shows have been cut down already over the last five years. Though more to do with cost.

Don't forget Disney also developed a fish friendly firework.

This non-rumour is getting daft now.

I like fireworks, and I'm not arguing that they are going to go away - but at least they are looking at options that can fill some of that gap. You can't do fireworks at Animal Kingdom for example, but this could be seriously cool combined w/ Pandora.

And yeah, maybe finding a more reusable solution isn't entirely insane - not that Disney is looking at the environmental impact here, but someone is - having options is a good thing.

I would love to see them bring back the original Illuminations with Original music and lineup but add projections to the country pavilions and the opening sequence with the laser images have drones do those very images to that music in the sky. It would be the perfect show to start them do to their limited run time and more than enough time to get to their spot to begin the show and clear out before the fireworks start. That would be the perfect show to start them with as well as a great nalstalgic revamped rerun of the original show.
