GOLD COAST (May 24, 2010) – Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) executives unveiled today the creative design and stories behind Adventureland inside the theme park destination resort planned for the Gold Coast. The press briefing is the seventh in a series where Disney will unveil the creative design for the Down Under Resort targeted to open on March 15th, 2013.
The Down Under Resort will be the sixth Disney resort in the world and the first to combine the greatest ideas from every resort. It will be made up of themed lands evoking their own unique spirit of fantasy, excitement and adventure. Disney Imagineers, Brian DeLoera, vice president and executive producer in charge of the Down Under Resort and Mr. Jake, executive designer in charge of imagineering the Magic Kingdom, revealed several conceptual renderings and storyboards from a Rivers Of America to a giant cliff wall in the Magic Kingdom.
Adventureland
Depending on where one enters Adventureland from, they'll encounter a myriad of interesting adventures. Starting from Frontierland, once they enter, they'll be immersed in a Spanish atmosphere.
Directly infront of them, is the Pirates Plaza. In here, one can enter the abandoned Spanish fortress under the mast into a giant complex at night. Here they can enter the soon to be opened Blue Bayou Restaurant complex. Come opening day, this area will be walled off to visitors, but they will be able to ride the "Pirates Of The Caribbean" boat ride. This spectacular journey will take you through the old swashbuckling pirate days on a beloved Disney classic.
From the Pirates Plaza, one can go forward into the Agrabah Bazaar area. Here, soon after opening day, they can ride the "The Magic Passage of Aladdin" which will feature many special effects and a wonderful unforgetable finale. Continuing down, we'll reach the end of the bazzar and after wandering those many side streets, we'll finally exit out into the hub.
If we look to our left from the Agrabah Bazaar, we'll see "Pirate's Beach". This area features a pirates ship, "Adventure Isle", and the "Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse". Here we'll encounter a variety of adventures and possibly even meet face to face with the legendary Captain Hook!
If we start from Main Street or the Hub, we can enter Royal Street. this New Orleans/Colonial era street is bustling with French and Jungle influences and features legendary brass bands. At the end of Royal Street away from the hub, we'll reach a cul-de-sac.
From here, we can go left and enter the foreboding "Haunted Mansion". Here we will enter the abandoned Mansion in the jungle and enter the scariest ride at any Disney theme park. We'll encounter all 999 haunts. Will you be next?! Planned events include the Jack Skellington invaded "Haunted Mansion Holiday". But, the Down Under Resort is still debating this idea.
To the right of the cul-de-sac, we can enter the Tiki Room, an outpost on th edge of town where we can witness birds sing and flowers bloom. Or we can head on over to the Adventureland Theater. Here we'll enjoy the "Adventureland Revue". This cute show features many of your favorite characters in a tropical show.
If we continue past "Pirate's Beach" all the way to the other side,
we'll see a tower tree. This tree, Yggdrasil, will feature the soon to be opening "Nine Worlds" ride. No details are released at this point. Next to that will be "Jungle Cruise". This classic ride takes you into the jungle and around various gags and jokes thanks to your ever so clever skipper.
Hungry, then stop by several prominent restaurants. Visit the not so expensive "Agrabah Café" or the favorite "Royal Street Veranda" where many young couples are soon to be known for visiting. Also try "The Skipper’s Galley" where you can eat after a heroing Jungle Cruise ride. If you want to shop, you'll shop till you drop! Try "The Treasury of Sinbad - Articles of Thousand and One Nights" or "Adventureland Bazaar" or the famous "La Petite Parfumerie" for those famouse Disney colognes.
If you want to enjoy some shows, catch the "Adventureland Revue" at the Adventureland Theater or catch "Aloha! Hawaii" at the Polynesian Terrace Dinner Theater. Reservations are required.
The Down Under Resort project was announced in November 2009 as a venture between The Walt Disney Company and the GCLC. Currently under reclamation by the GCLC, Disney is targeted to begin construction in early 2010 with the project scheduled to open in March 15th, 2013. The opening day program for the Down Under Resort will include a 15 million annual visitor Disneyland-style theme park, three hotels and retail, dining and entertainment uses. The project is estimated to create 25,000 new jobs at opening both Disney and other employment, growing to 40,000 once the first park reaches build-out. At the completion of Phase I, the project will include a 15 million annual visitor Disneyland-style theme park, 3,500 hotel rooms, and a giant district of retail, dining and entertainment.
