The Dos and Don'ts of WDWCP

I guess it's just depending on where you work and in what area? My sister's work area was in the food department at the Studios.

Now, if she were a ride operator, THAT would've been a dream come true for her! At least she didn't get stuck working as a character. You know how uncomfortable those can get!
hmmm..well the only reason I even did the CP is because I got "stuck" working with characters.... lol and it has seriously been the greatest experience of my life! and when you see these kids in the parks, lack of comfort is the last thing on your mind... the CP is an awesome program- i will add my vote to the fact that it's all what you make out of it. I will be going seasonal after this and hope to find myself back here after I finish school. I've had the time of my life and I know I will miss it tremendously when I leave in a couple weeks! make lots of friends, talk to everyone you work with (especially in entertainment, where you work with new people every day and may never work with someone more than once), go to the parks, don't get offended when the full-timers blow steam about how much the hate CPs, even if it's to your face, but at the same time, realize that you are the bottom of the rung, so don't complain about things that you have no room to complain about....and if you don't truly want to be here, then don't come! On day one of getting here, I guessed that there were two of my roomates who just didn't really want to be here, and that they likely wouldn't make it to the end of the program...and within a month, they were both termed... i think that's about it....but have fun, i've had the time of my life

oh ya!!! and when you get here, get one photopass card, use it everytime you go to the parks, with ALL of your friends, take as many pictures as you possibly can, make sure you use it at least once every 30 days so you don't lose your pictures, and at the end of your program, buy the CD- it's only $60 with our holiday discount, and you can split that with your friends and then burn copies of the CD for all of them....and there's no limit to how many pictures can be on the CD- we have A TON!!!

And don't tell anyone that you are a CM.

I don't agree

Having disney experience has helped my resume and recruiters are quite interested when they see it.

Also, they sell Tshirts at CompanyD that say WDW CAST MEMBER in big letters on the front.

As long as you are not breaching confidentiality, your perfectly alright
Its not like the CIA where they say that they have no knowledge of you ever working for them

DON'T verbally or physically attack other CM's
DO watch what you do
DO understand that WDW is a union workplace, and taking work away from someone else (ie- helping out) is a grievable offense.
DON'T rat out a Pleasure Island CM should they accidentally give you a 21+ wristband even if you're under 21.

I know of at least 2 CM's that have been terminated for non-work offenses that wouldn't have even batted an eyebrow if they weren't CM's.

I believe that's what Metscool meant :)

You are misunderstanding what I wrote. What I mean is don't run around the parks acting like you're a CM (happens), don't go on the Internet acting like a CM (i.e. don't go online and talk about your job, company secrets, or post on sites like stupidguestricks.com), and don't think being a CM gives you any special privileges outside of the WDW Resort.

AMEN!! All too often I saw CM's pulling the "But I'm a CM" card and it made me mad. Just because you're a CM doesn't mean you're any more special than anyone else.

DO NOT WEAR YOUR CAST ID IN THE PARKS!!!

My biggest headache comes from the CP's (some status cast do it, but its rare) who wear their cast and/or price managment ID's into the parks and PI and all over Disney when they are not working and out of costume. Trust me, wearing your ID in the parks just makes other CMs not want to help you at all. Carry it in your pocket, the discounts are good with it, but wearing it... trust me, it doesnt make you look any more cool.

what else.... This one is for all CM's in general.

DON'T forget, you work for Disney, NOT the Union :)
DON'T bother guest relations with petty complaints. You're a Cast Member and allowed in for free cause Disney was nice enough to. And if you do go to complain, don't tell them you're a CM. You will be told to leave guest relations and take the issue up with your management... or worse.

And your guests using comp tickets or blue/silver pass tickets should not complain either. They did after all get in for free!

DO learn every square inch of guest area at your location and learn where every bathroom, smoking area, and ride is located

DO pose for pictures with foreign guests in your ugly, but crazy looking costume

DO your own magical moments for guests

DO bring your computer

DON'T live at Vista -- Chatham is much better

And for God's sake don't try to go to the Fastpass return line with your Cast ID and think you'll get something special for it.

Wow. Things I never would have even thought of trying.

Who said I was being sarcastic? Besides, I don't know what you mean.

The original point was basically keep your CM status on a need to know basis. Don't go around telling people for no reason thinking it'll get you anything. Telling your family is of course fine.

Now why is Chatham better than Vista? Just cleaner, newer?

And is it pronounced Veesta, Vysta or Vista?

Vista is mold-infected, buggy, hell. It's pronounced as it looks.

Chatham is newer, nicer and cleaner.

Another Don't - DON'T SWIM IN THE HOTTUB!!!!!
