The Disney Parks Value Story Just Got Stronger

Ok so let's compare theme park to theme park. 1 day-

My local Cedar Fair park is $65 admission + $83 Fast Pass + $20 Parking = $168.00

Magic Kingdom $105 admission + $0 for Fast Pass + $20 Parking = $125.00

______

Oh you have to stay onsite so want to figure that cost in? Ok, let's do that.

1 night Great Wolf Lodge to be next to the Cedar Fair park- $249.99 (for a standard room, not themed) + $65 park admission + $83 FP + $20 Parking = $417.99 + $148 for second ticket = $565.99 (I did not even add in the resort fee, the total would be more)

1 Night, Port Orleans WDW
- $190.00+ $105 ticket - $20 parking = $294.00 + $105 for 2nd ticket = $399.00

Disney has high prices. So does everyone else.

I think his point was that entertainment in general is expensive. Pretty much across the board.

I did make a mistake on the bottom portion of that post.. Just ignore the 4 in place of the 5, and the fact the I forgot to add in the $20 before I subtracted it. Lol. The end math is still the same.

Another comparison to this - Broadway. If you want to go see Disney's Aladdin on Broadway this fall, tickets are going for $157.50 for a standard ticket. That's $630 for a family of four for two hours and twenty minutes of entertainment.

This doesn't include parking, train or bus, dinner in or around Timea Square, and any refreshments you might decide to have in the theatre, where a plastic sippy cup of wine can easily run you $30.00.

And God forbid you need a hotel room(!) and if you want tickets to another show another night, you repeat the process all over again. And don't even think about Hamilton tickets, unless you intend to mortgage your house.

Disney is overpriced, but they are in very good company.

Yep, I went to see Newsies this past Spring, not in New York..and still paid over $100 per ticket.

We could all moan and complain and say "these people are taking advantage of us!!" "They're scumbags!" OR- we could grumble a bit but pay the prices of places we want to go. They aren't evil. They're just capitalizing on their product.

As far as Hamilton goes- even if you are willing to mortgage your house you still may not be able to find a ticket ;)

Yes, over the decades prices shift. Disney has outpaced inflation, but it may not have outpaced entertainment.

In the seventies a colour TV would've cost you a month's wages, or more. Nowadays, you can buy a portable dvd-tv combo set for the price of a few gallons of milk.
Whereas in the seventies cinemas, sports events, concerts were the price of a few gallons of milk, but now each cost you an arm and a leg.

I didn't even think about this til you pointed it out. Even in the past few years TVs have gone down to a fraction of the price of what they were. Blu-ray players as well. It's crazy. I'm thankful though! Something had to give!

Remember EPCOT's Computer Revue? A basketball court full of computers, that cost enough to have paid off Brazil's debt.

Nowadays it costs 200 dollar and sits in the palm of your hand.

3 hours at disney would cost way more ._.The price of 2 one day tickets alone are more than the whole day at the ballpark and you cant use the multi day pass argument or i would suggest you look into some season ticket packages to reduce your ballpark ticket price
But you wouldn't stay at Disney for just 3 hours or just get 3 hours of fun. Per hour, Disney is far cheaper. I calculated around$30/hr including airfare at Disney and around $80/Hr for baseball game.

No it isn't. Your spelling of "ridiculous" is ridiculous.

Look. Entertainment is entertainment. My whole theme has always been about how much you have to pay to do things that are fun with your family and friends.

The ballpark is a show with food, drink, and entertainment. It's something people forget because it's a smaller expense, but it's still more expensive than Disney when you consider its all over in just a few hours. Do that 10 times/yr and that's a trip to Disney.

Missed seeing you around buddy. Love the Broadway example....I saw Lion King (wonderful of course) and spent over $700 that night between dinner and show.

I don't even count hotel since we were there a couple days, but factor in that and airfare and NYC was more expensive for 3 nights than Disney for a week!

Chicago Museum of Science and Industry: $18. Kids $11

Turkey and Wild Rice Soup: $3

That's $14 to take your daughter to her favourite place in the world, all day long.

Kids $11?
That's just museum entry.
And now........The rest of the story.

U-505 tour +$9
coal mine tour +$9
IMAX movie +$9
LEGO brick by brick +$9

Oh, it's +$12 per item (for adults) on top of that $18 museum entry.
And $22 parking.( I don't take the CTA to the South Side, homey )

My wife and I are again headed to Disney in September for 9 nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We got an awesome deal and the deluxe hotel as part of their promotions during early September. Airfare was cheap and yes, the $449 8 Day Park Hopper seems like a real value after our most recent outing.

We decided to go to our local MLB park and watch the home team play. We had a great time.

Game Tickets: $150
Parking: $25
Hot Dog: $13 (crumbled stale chips included)
Chicken Nuggets: $14 (NOTHING else, not even fries)
Water: $4.25 per bottle (we got 2)
Coke: $6.75 per drink (we got 2)
Ice Cream: $7
Peanuts: $7
Gas: $3
Frustration with parking/traffic: ?
Total: ~$242

Again, I had a great time, but both my wife and I brought up Disney on the way home.

The food at the game was not good. Lukewarm and very low quality. The chicken was far worse than the standard breast nuggets at Disney. However, we both said the same thing. Wow, for 3 hours, we spent $242 and didn't enjoy the food.

We both brought up Liberty Tavern. For literally the same money as our "entree" of hotdog/chicken and Coke, you get a Thanksgiving meal. Sure, it's not the greatest food ever and the stuffing is probably Stovetop, but it's pretty good food for $19.

People complain about $3 water? Well, it's $4.25 here and you want it just as badly. Oh btw, no coolers or brought in food here.

Totally different experiences, but doing anything under the provided entertainment category is pretty expensive these days. Sure, you can make your own fun, but going to the mall, movies, or any sporting event can be quite an expense.

I love the Disney value of around $50/day for all your entertainment in the parks on an 8 day ticket. Sure, you have to get there, eat there, and stay in the hotel, but you have to do that anywhere. The entertainment value is great!!

lol....

I went to the Met game last night. Spent about $75 all told. Ticket, couple beers, chicken sandwich, parking. Stupidly expensive, sure, but I am not sure how that lets Disney off the hook in their price gouging?

What'd you do...buy the cheapest ticket at $16 and sit up in the nosebleed section? That's still $75 for a couple hours of entertainment to watch one form of entertainment. A few dollars more and you have an entire day of multiple entertainment options. For what Disney offers, they are no where close to being overpriced.

In total contrast..

Here is an excerpt from our camping trip last week.. This trip cost me maybe $30 total - for 4 days-between gas to get there and a few food items. Mini golf is free.

I can get an entire summer for less than one trip to WDW. Does it mean Disney is overpriced, or one is better than the other? Nope.

It just means that they are different, with different expectations. I think that's what we all especially "the haters" need to remember. We are paying for Disney, there is not where else like it. So if you want a less expensive vacation, then by all means go- and have a wonderful time!!! If you want Disney? Mumble under your breath, but get over it. Go and have a magical time :)

P.S. Who Dey!!!

So, here's what I think whenever this conversation comes up.

If you think Disney is overpriced, it is.

If you don't think Disney is overpriced, it isn't.

Stop trying to convince people on the other side. Personally, I can see how people would think it's overpriced, but since it's my absolute favorite place in the world (warts and all) I pay and go as often as I can. Used to be every year, probably closer to every 18 months or so now, and might become every other year, but as long as I go and leave all my cares behind and have a great time, I'll continue to go. Why people feel the need to try and convince the other side that their train of thought is the correct one on this subject is mind boggling.
