Well at the rate they keep pushing "The Batman 2" back, they might need to update the current script-in-progress to include a shouting match between Bruce Wayne and the Riddler over a game of Checkers in a retirement home.
I didn't care for "The Batman," so, any delay is good by me!

Might as well talk about the animated Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths animated trilogy... It was awful. Awful awful.

Even with you getting your own spinoff show from it?

I don't know why that film got so much praise. I felt gaslit by people saying, "It's detective Batman." He just walked into rooms and immediately picked up things that provided exposition to the next part of the story. Or he went to one person. They told him a story about his parents. He gets angry and goes to the next person who tells him more context. Then he watches a video that explains the complete story.

Batman walks into Riddler's apartment, walks to a bookshelf and picks up a random book that has permanent information. The Riddler's computer has a password. He walks over to a bird cage and picks up a random object. A random cop interjects to tell him it's a tool for laying carpet because his brother-in-laws or someone works in carpeting. Batman looks at the floor. There's carpet. He rips it up, and there's a map of the Riddler's plan for Gotham and a password to the computer. He types in the password watches a video that explains the plan. Batman then fails to stop the plan to flood the city.

Penguin was good though.

I can't say I disliked the movie, but a lot of what you describe bugged me also. Batman seemed to be spoon-fed way too much, and it seemed outta character for him to need to rely on coincidences or the help of others so much. Detective Batman should be ahead of the game.

He would have looked even more incompetent, had this scene not been pulled from the movie at last minute. He actually goes to the Joker for assistance in figuring out what the Riddler is all about and what drives him. It takes Joker but a minute to know exactly who the Riddler is:
"He's a nobody, who wants to be a somebody."
"He's a fan of yours."

Yet Batman can't figure this same thing out, and he's been on the case for weeks??

Doesn’t this movie take place in Bruce’s first year as Batman?

Yes! Good point, which could justify *some* of the issues mentioned. Yet look at Christian Bale's first year... even before his first year technically started and was just becoming Batman (yes, I know it's a completely different cinematic universe/saga). He had figured out the inner working of Gotham crime rings and crime bosses... and was basically running the show in putting them away. That version of Bats was a better detective than this newer, supposed "Detective Batman". imo

While the Dark Knight trilogy is my favorite, I still enjoyed The Batman somewhat, and look forward to where the saga goes... if they can ever get the sequels going (???)
