The current fastpass line for Space Mountain (2/21 at 2PM)

Space mountain has had an issue with the FP+ line for a while. In fact, most rides do. People line up to scan their magicbands or park passes, but then when it comes to the scanning station people seem to forget how magicbands work. They seem to completely ignore the instructions of the CMs to have their magicbands or park passes ready to scan, or even worse just scan it despite the lack of Fastpass. It's led to massive lines just like this one at pirates, space, basically anything. They've got a rope maze just east of the BTM fastpass posts to deal with it for pete's sake.

So you're telling me...it's because they can't make the mickey spin is the reason? And not that there's damn near a thousand people queued up for the fast pass line with more and more frequency?

It's all operator error?

In life today I think most of us are used to the process of scanning stuff--ID to get into work, Dunkin Donuts app to pay for your coffee, JC Penney coupon found on the app. etc. etc. MOST people know to have this sort of thing ready before the scan process. And with a magic band how much 'getting ready' do you really need to do? I mean other than making sure it hasn't twisted on your wrist (unlikely unless you are wearing it too loose), I can't think of another preparation step one would have to take.

Still, I am sure some guests find the process of 'Mickey to Mickey' mind boggling, though I doubt there are enough of these people hanging out at Disney per day to account for the increase in the length of fast pass lines. (I don't doubt that some folks do get in the fast pass line without one though...sigh...)

Overall, there's got to be something else that is resulting in fast pass becoming the 'Well at Least it's Better Than the Standby Line Pass'.

Might be that they stagnated and built almost nothing between 2000-2012 and the attendance is somwwhere around 20% higher - and rising - and no amusement ventures can endure that without major changes to the experience...

If I had to guess...but it's just a guess...

I don't have any problem with how the legacy system still works at Disneyland. It seems you can get so much more done there.

Get to park around opening, get fast pass for space, do all of fantasyland (except Peter), then ride space, get FP for Indy, ride pirates on the way to the Fantasmic FP, ride HM (usually no more than 30 min wait before noon), ride Indy with your FP...

It seems with FP+ you can't be as flexible or as efficient with your time.

I’ve run into this issue numerous times during our quick trips in the last few months. The line inside the actual queue is negligent, but the line at the scanner is atrocious. Comes down to people not being ready with their MBs and people simultaneously choosing the same time in the window. Not sure how it could be fixed though.

Now the issue that does throw me for a loop is when the FP+ actual line is longer than standby, but that happens once in a blue moon, normally on Space.
