The Creator Games!: An Imagineering Competition- Discussion Thread

spacemt354

Chili's
Hi everyone,
Just a heads up -- in the future, for any challenge due date that you may potentially have a conflict with, please either post in the discussion thread or contact the hosts that there is a potential issue as soon as possible.

We all understand that these competitions are just for fun, and personal life can absolutely throw a curve-ball into your available free-time. But for stuff that you know is coming, and has been planned out, it's better you tell us in advance, rather than waiting until the last minute.

For instance, Memorial Day Weekend is coming up. As are finals for High School/Middle School. If anybody is going away, or knows that something may interfere, could you please just let us know. That way, we can make the proper adjustments so that everyone can participate and enjoy themselves!

Thanks!:)

@MCParradox being part of the first "Sudden Death" challenge...that was something I was NOT expecting. Once again guys, this was another round of crazy good projects all around. The fact that two people will be eliminated is a gut punch, but a good and intense start to the proper game.

Good luck to everyone in the sudden death round.
Yeah, expect some craziness my friend;)
The fact that we are eliminating two people is partially because we extended the amount of accepted competitors, but also part to help create a nice next challenge for y'all. And, keep in mind, you will have 8 sessions left, and 14 contestants, so do the math....;)

Hey I just wondered if there was some type of ranking list where we can see at what ranking we are on? I know you do this per session, but can we also know the general ranking ?

One Little Spark...
Before I start I would just like to thank @IDInstitute @spacemt354 and @Sam4D23 for hosting and judging this competition. This week I had a lot of fun creating this attraction, and now I present to you...

Journey to the Center of the Earth

Occupying Theater 1 of the Tommorowland South building will be Journey to the Center of the Earth, based on the novel of the same name by Jules Verne. This attraction will be similar to the dark ride of the same name in TDS. I chose this theme because of the Sci-Fi feel to the story, and that it fits the original Tommorowland theme better than Disney IP based attractions. This will be a 3D show.

Queue

Entering the outdoor portion of the queue, it will be similar to how it is today. On the wall will be mural showcasing images from other Jules Verne books, such as Around the World in 80 Days, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and The Mysterious Island. After entering the building you would see a wall mural showing Mount Prometheus in the distance. The pre-show room would be removed and replaced with a library. A desk in the library will have the book on it that explains how to get to the center of the Earth. After this, a CM will direct you into the theater. There will be a cart with glasses on it on the way in.

Showroom

The wall and roof would be a dome, which would also be a giant digital screen, and the floors would be fake grass (The floor would not be there while the show is going, as it would split and go out of the way, underground). When you walk in it will show a 2D (As in, no glasses, not 2D animation) image of Mount Prometheus on the wall and seemingly endless fields. At this time it will look like SGE in terms of seating, however WDI will create new technology allowing each seat to move individually. Also, the seats would all have flashlights below them, and CM’s would come around before the show, pulling them up as needed (They would be under every seat because the show could be changed)

Show

The show itself will be practically identical to the ride in Tokyo. In the beginning, all the seats would turn to face Mount Prometheus, which would then seem to be coming at you. When you reach the base, you would start going up. At this point the grass beneath you has already disappeared. After reaching the top, you fall into the center of the Earth, and everything goes dark. A few seconds later, the first flash light goes on. At this point you see that everyone is in the center of the room, facing the walls. After the first one, a few more flashlights flicker on so everyone can see. Now, the wall looks like this.

JTTCOTE2.jpg

For a little bit, the people with the flashlights will wave them around, but then the tour of the center of the Earth will start. You will see many bioluminescent plants and animals, which could be different each time, depending on where you sit, and where the lighters point. This will go on for a short time, and then the room will go dark. While it is dark all seats will be returned to their original positions, and the flashlight fun would be over. A spotlight would then turn on, revealing that this guy

disneysea_update_008ff.jpg

came out of where Stitch is now (The hole would never be visible due to the grass in the beginning, and the darkness in between). After he “attacks”, you will feel like you are being shot out of the volcano, and the grass would come back into view gradually as you “fall” back down to the ground.

Stats

Ride Length: 8 Minutes

Load/Unload: 2 Minutes

Capacity: 240 (x2 Theaters)

Capacity/Hour: 2880

Ticket Rating: B-Ticket

FastPass +: No

Flashlights

Conceptually, the flashlights would project a picture onto the wall. However, since it is a digital screen, motion sensors in the flashlights would be connected to the screen, telling the screen where to display the image. The image on the wall would always be the same, but what you actually see depends on where the flashlight is pointed.

Point by point as I read it review, as usual...and for those who haven't read these, I'm a harsh critic, but it's not personal. <wink> It's critical and subjective analysis...and what good is critical analysis if it's not critical?

So, moving on...

1) Stitch is located in the North building of Tomorrowland. Not sure where you got "Theater 1 of Tommorrowland South" from. Could you explain?

2) I don't see how Jules Verne fits with a world of "Tomorrow", though I do applaud the thought. Steampunk, while an amusing and amazing new trend in popularity, has nothing to do with "Tomorrow". That said, thematically, it belongs far more in Adventureland or Fantasyland, not Tomorrowland.

3) Ok, I like the nods to the past in the queues, as this is how Tomorrowland attractions traditionally told their stories (before the modern age of Disney). They told you briefly where we were, and then the end queue was where we are, and the ride itself was where we are going. So, good choices here!

4) Not sure what the cart with glasses means...though it is a nice environmental touch, if there was more meaning, you should expand upon that.

5) You needed to go into far more detail about the Showroom. For example, how would said "individual moving seats" work mechanically? It wouldn't take much, a paragraph or two, but, you tossed it aside with "WDI would invent something new", which is a throw away and diminishes your actual concept.

6) I found it darkly amusing that you felt it necessary to say that 2D meant "no glasses"...

7) You shoot yourself in the foot with the next section, where you start by saying that you've done nothing "new"...it's, using your own words "practically identical to the ride in Tokyo". Um, ok...then...what exactly did you Imagine? You probably should have left that out.

8) "The show itself will be practically identical to the ride in Tokyo. In the beginning, all the seats would turn to face Mount Prometheus, which would then seem to be coming at you" I wish you'd added a sentence to explain this in more detail, because it sounds amazing.

9) Ok, how did the grass disappear unless you are in some sort of Sourin type setup for the seats? Again, details, not imagery, would help send the imagery home and nail it. Same with the next sentence. Sounds great, and is easy to write, not so easy to craft into a practical ride, and that is part of the challenge. Not the visuals alone, but how you craft them into practical effects. GREAT imagery though, very well done!

10) The wall looks like a Wonderland themed rave club?

11) Overall, neat idea, but I feel like you just walked us through a DisneySea ride, not come up with your own unique version of a MK refit.

Tech specs didn't add much. You already said it was a cloned attraction, then you described a cloned attraction...so...whatever...

Overall, decent. Your writing style is nice, your presentation is easy to ready and spot on. I liked this submission.

And I'm allowed to like it, cause this is the discussion thread. So...good show! I believe this is your first comp, and as a first comp submission, I'd say you did extremely well! Kudos for that and welcome to the family!

One Little Spark...
Since I love Lilo and Stitch and I love the Stitch's Great Escape ride, my replacement of the ride will be:

Jumba's Experiment Encounter:

In the queue of the new ride you will receive a messsage from the Grand Councilwoman who sends you on a mission to investigate Jumba's lab. Here, mysterious lights and sounds have been recorded , but no one knows what it is. Now you will get the chance to pay a visit to Jumba's lab and to find out what is going on over there.
maxresdefault.jpg

On the walls are some screens that display various mysterious codes of Jumba's experiments. Then we are asked to enter the pre-show room. In this area you will see audio animatronic characters of Pleakley and Jumba. Behind them are two pipes and one screen. Jumba will tell you that he has created a portal that could transport the experiments to places where they are needed. Doctor Hamsterviel however is back and has made some of the experiments evil. In this ride you will be able to help to redeem the experiments. Jumba will send them to the main hall where he has to scan the experiment and then redeem. The guests' job will be to distract the experiments and to check if their powers work correctly.

Then the group of guests will be divided into two groups. The two theaters will serve as Jumba's lab. The ride will have a randomized system. Every theater will have 9 audio animatronic figures( 8 randomized characters) underneath it. All these animatronics are experiments. In every ride you will encounter 3 randomized experiments and you will always meet Stitch at the end of the ride. You will still have the horsebelts on your seats, this will simulate the feeling of some of the characters walking around the theater. On the side of the theater, you can find a virtual window with Pleakley and Jumba behind it. On the sides of the central platform are experiment pod containers that show which experiment will inside the theater. I will now talk about the experiments you can encounter and what they will do.

Mr. Stenchy( experiment 254):
M_zps5abc745f.jpg

After the cute actions of this little experiment, he will release an extremely noxious, foul odor. Jumba will be satisfied after we have experienced the stinky smells of Mr. Stenchy or experiment 254.

Richter( experiment 513):
258px-513_Richter.jpg
Richter will create heavy shaking in the theater by hitting the ground with his tail.

Sample( experiment 258):
latest
He will create very loud sounds and music waves that will blow you away.( not ear damaging)

Sparky( experiment 221):
258px-221-Sparky.jpg
Sparky will fly around the room via light effects projections. The chairs will sometimes be shaking as if they are electrocuted.

Felix ( experiment 010):
250
This little guy will use heavy winds and also you will feel his tail at your legs as he tries to clean the room as much as possible.

Yin( experiment 501):
250px-501_Yin.jpg

This octopus like alien creature will soak us with water from his tentacles. Yes, you might get wet in this ride.

Yang ( experiment 502):
250px-502_Yang.jpg

He will create volcanic lava and shoots it around the room. By projections and light effects it will look like the walls will be burned. Also you will feel heat coming from the middle as he heats up the ground with his paws.

Slushy( experiment 523):
258px-523_-_Slushy.jpg

This experiment will let you experience cold temperatures. Via projections and light effects you will see the room freeze( similar to mystic manor slavic gallery)

Plasmoid( experiment 617):
617_plasmoid_by_bricerific43-d5a69pi.jpg

He will shoot around plasma fire balls. The light projections will simulate the burning of the walls by plasma.

Squeak( experiment 110):

258px-110_-_Squeak.png

This experiment will annoy the guests a lot by talking and talking and talking and talking, OH! and talking...

Houdini ( experiment 604):
604_-_Houdini.png

Houdini will turn invisible and walk around the theater. By shadows and the pressure of the belts you will feel his presence.

Elastico( experiment 345):
345_Elastico.jpg

Elastico will swing around the theater. He will land on some of the seats and the belts will also simulate this feeling. Shadows will also show him swinging around the lab.

Heat( experiment 609):
609_Heat.jpg

With light and laser effects you will experience heat's hot temperatures. Feel the heat coming from his forehead.

Kixx( experiment 601):
601_Kixx.jpg

Kixx will walk around the theater and it will feel as if the seats are hit by him. By shadows you will see him walk around and by special effects you will see that he hit the walls several times too.

Spooky( experiment 300):
300_Spooky.jpg

This one will scare the guests a bit. He will make it feel as if there are spiders in the room or a ghost by shadows or sensory effects.

Slimy( experiment 390):
390_-_Slimy.jpg

Slimy will be shooting slime into the audience. On the walls you will see slug slime left on the walls.

Pj( 133):
133_-_PJ.png

PJ will use practical jokes on us. He soaks the guests with a fake flower and toots his tooter around the theater.

Frenchfry( experiment 062):

062_-_Frenchfry.png

Frenchfry will cook delicious meals. Via smells you will let your nose taste the best food of Frenchfry.

The last one of the show will be

Stitch( 626):
Stitch.jpg

Our last guest will thank the guests for helping him and Jumba. He will slime the guests and walk around the theater as the big finale.

The ride will then be over and the guests are asked to leave the theater.
Stats:
  • ride length: 15 minutes
  • Load/ Unload: 2 minutes
  • FastPass +: no
  • Amount of guests/ capacity: 220
My goals were:
  • Keep Lilo and Stitch in the park
  • Give guests a reason to come back to this ride
  • Introduce a new technology( spinning randomized system)
  • Keep the theater experience
  • Bring more Lilo and Stitch characters to the parks
  • Give the ride a better storyline
  • Blend in with the story's timeline
  • Mix various effects for an ultimate experience

I know that I have talked about this project before, but I never really went this deep into it. I really would like to thank the creators of the Creator Games a lot

1) Who is Jumba? What is his messsage? <wink> My point is, you shouldn't assume that your audience knows the IP as well as you do. A sentence or two would help here a lot.

2) I love Stitch, I still have no idea who Jumba is. I could google, I guess.

3) Who is Doctor Hamsterviel? Why did he make the evil? Is it because he's "evil"? (yes, I know he's from one of the sequels, that most people have not watched, I'm talking about this from a ride and story perspective, not a fan one)

4) Your visuals don't match your descriptions. Choosing better images would have helped your presentation dramatically. Remember, your goal is not only to communicate your idea, but to communicate THE STORY to those who may not also be fans. Keep that in mind.

5) Interesting interactive experience here lost in the Jumba / Ham scene. You hinted at it, but you didn't follow through.

6) Oddly, you do a good job with the next few visuals, though I felt like it was a Pokemon countdown.

7) Again, Stats unneeded, as they are purely speculatory as not much else is given. They add nothing. The strength of this largely "walk through" as you described it, is the animatronics. You should focus on that.

8) No need to list your goals. The challenge isn't to list them, the challenge is to present them.

One Little Spark...
Guardians of the Galaxy: Rocket/Groot Encounter
GOTG-poster.jpg
Guardians of the Galaxy was one of the highest grossing movies of 2014, and has earned the title from some as this generations Star Wars. What better way to capitalize on the smash hit movie than to have it replace one of the worst attractions in Walt Disney World in Sitich's Great Escape? This new attraction will feature the same theater layout, but with updated aesthetics and new seats. Sure to be a hit, Fastpass+ will be available for this attraction for both hotel guests and commuters. Without further ado, let's get on with the show!

Backstory: The Guardians of the Galaxy have traveled to Earth for the first time to stop the Ravager's expanded intergalactic terror efforts, and they need our help; just not with their mission. You see, only Star Lord, Gamora, and Drax are useful for this particular assignment, and they need someone to, well, "babysit" Groot and Rocket. There are two versions of this attraction; a "Mild" experience for Groot, and an "Intense" experience for Rocket. You will decide your experience of choice when you enter one of two lines, one for each. Then, for the preshow, the existing railings will still be there, with the top row and the right theater being for Groot, with the lower row and the left theater for Rocket.

Facade: As you walk into Tomorrowland, you will see a familiar spaceship on your left. The Milano is now parked near the entrance to Tomorrowland which will be one of the most popular photo ops in the park. Only the left side of the ship will be visible, with the other half being "inside" the show building as you enter the rear door to start your adventure.
latest
Queue: The existing outdoor queue will stay there, but a GotG mural will be added on the back wall. To control traffic flow, the rear door for The Milano will open and close periodically depending on how many more people can fit inside. Once you get on the ship, it looks like it does in the movie, until you work your way to the common area where you encounter 60% of the Guardians.
Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Photo-Team-Milano-Interior.jpg
Pre-Show: You walk into the pre show with Starlord, Gamora, and Drax AA's chatting amongst themselves in the foyer type room of the ship. Gamora sees us, and alerts the others and she starts the spiel about what is going on (see backstory if you forget what is going on). We are then directed by tech assistants out of the Milano through a door into a top secret facility where Groot and Rocket will be held.

Rocket Encounter: After all guests have sat down and had their shoulder restraints lowered, Rocket will enter a la Stitch, and he will chat us up using MM+. Then, using the new AA tech being studied, he will exit the chamber and walk around. A live security guard will come in and yell at him for getting out of his chamber, and rocket will shoot at him, which sets off the alarms and the the lights go black. You then hear Rocket running around, guns going off with the occasional light pops of the weapons, feel him brushing up your legs or jumping on shoulders, and best of all, not smelling Chilli dog burps! Events like this go on for 90 seconds, when you hear Drax yelling, grabbing an upset Rocket, and dragging him to the portal. Then the lights come on, and you see a Drax AA holding a rocket AA trying to wriggle out of his grasp, and they are teleported away. Starlord then comes on the screens and us that Drax has Rocket handled, and we can go. You are then released into Mickey Star Traders, where it is stripped of all Stitch merch and filled with Guardians apparel.

Groot Encounter: Once everyone is in, your harness comes down and Groot enters. Once it starts, Groot will do his signature dance, say I am Groot, and grow all around the room and through the isles, spreading his branches. A very unique and special effect utilizing MM+ is that Groot will sprout flowers in front of little girls and other women for them to grab and keep (not real flowers, constantly restocking) After about 2 mins, Starlord comes on and tells us that Drax came back to attend to Rocket, so he will take Groot too and let us go.
tumblr_niovz61B221qlw75do1_250.gif

In conclusion, I feel like this IP is perfectly suited for an attraction in Tomorrowland (and apparently so do 3 others :p). There have been two attractions in this building previously utilizing the theater in the round, and neither have lived a full life, both for different reasons. Alien Encounter was closed due to it being too "scary", and now Stitch's Great Escape due to it being such a poorly created attraction that doesn't belong anywhere, let alone Tomorrowland. We have already solved the first issue by created an intense and a mild version before we even receive complaints from guests, and the second issue will be avoided because this property fits perfectly in Tomorrowland, no ifs, ands, or buts. Also, the third times the charm. :)

Thank you for reading my submission, and good luck to the 15 other contestants!

JDM, JDM, my dear friend JDM...your turn. <grin>

1) I'm having trouble picturing your pre-queue. I mean, I get it, it's a waiting area in a galactic "airport"...but, nothing seems amazing out it. Plus, where is that animatronic going to go?

2) Tom-Morrow reference = like

3) How did you come up with XS-ST04? That's a rather specific and unique designation.

4) Ok, before reading on, I can tell you why I like where this concept is going as opposed to the prior two I reviewed. It is NOT that the prior two were bad (they were quite good), but they both relied on some sort of cartoony IP storytelling. Tomorrowland, well...here, I'll let Walt say it.

That is/was Tomorrowland, that is/was Futureworld at EPCOT.

So, here, we have a unique IP that focuses not on Pixar or cartoons, but really focuses on US...meaning Humanity.

And that was the promise of Tomorrowland. Science Fiction is a different sort of escapism. People escaping into the future. Star Trek nerds (which I am one) are in that group. JJ didn't reboot Star Trek properly. It was never about action escapism (if I wanted that I'd enjoy Fast and the Furious, which I do, as action escapism)...

But, I'll leave that aside so I can move on.

5) Work on your latin. Nice touch, but it's so bad...so...bad... What where you trying to say? I suspect Extract Earth, which would be "Excerptum terra".

6) I like that the 3D glasses are built into the show as a show element.

7) The current bars don't offer much that modern bars can't...the reason they are so close fitting is to be sure the local effects of the bars have local impact. How would you suggest they do them better? A few lines on that would have been nice.

8) HoloLens video would help.

Here it is.

9) Still not understanding the "disks"...and their significance.

10) And now this is getting very Superhero (Marvel) and not Tomorrowland...I think had you left this a simple experience of discovery, it would have been much stronger.

11) Overall, not bad, but I think your concept lost it's rails towards the end as you wanted to tell a story with closure, rather than an open ended one.

imho, a concept set up that was unique and fantastic, that was ruined with the fact that it MUST tell a set story.

Thank you for reading my submission, and good luck to the 15 other contestants!

Matt. Another friend.

Ok...here we go as I tear you apart?

1) And has earned the title from some as this generation's Star Wars.

My response...nope. Not in the slightest.

Wait until the people who HAVE money start pressuring the box office. Star Wars is going to beat anything James Cameron dreamed about, I suspect.

See, here's the issue. There are people who love fantasy, and they tend to be under 12. There are people who dream about life, and they tend to be below age 25. Then there are the people with MEANS...meaning money to spend, and they tend to be a bit older who love both.

While I wholly admit that trends are set by the young, for the most part (Game of Thrones was written when the Author was well over 40, but TRENDS are what I'm talking about) that doesn't mean that trends are the domain of the young.

I'll just let that marinate and leave it with this...I can drop several thousand dollars on a Disney vacation. Can you? What is my spending power vs yours, and how do you, as a company, tap into my spending power?

That is something that should sit in the back of your mind every time these sorts of topics come up. Just because the idea is new, doesn't mean it is really "new" or that it well thought out.

Ok, old man rant over.

2) I really enjoyed the way you broke up your presentation. Two thumbs up there.

3) I liked that you had two "intense" versions.

4) First comment, and this goes back to JDM's submission, this is an IP heavy concept, not original. I will openly admit that I think JDM had a better concept here, but this concept so far sounds great.

5) "Then, using the new AA tech being studied" Link that? What AA tech is being "studied"?

6) Same issues I had with previous submissions, you make for a very interesting description, without explaining how it will happen. The latter is great "blue sky", but it isn't "imagineering" (note the end, engineering)

7) Interesting idea to use Groot. I like.

8) Not sure how this would actually WORK.

9) Ah, the classic Matt "thank you". You are welcome.

Overall, great submission. I liked your concepts, but I have issues with them. Especially the IP (and yeah, we could get into a Tintin sort of debate, but that's up the hosts...)

Overall, nice stuff, good job, and well...

One Little Spark...
Session One: Seize the Future - Concept Creation Challenge

An Adventure In Time

This attraction sees the building currently housing Stitch's Great Escape returned to its previous role as the Tomorrowland Interplanetary Convention Center, with a new show inside taking inspiration from the original ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, the now defunct Timekeeper from across the road, and Mission To Mars / Flight To The Moon. The layout of the attraction remains mostly the same, with the two theatres, preshow room and entrance hall remaining roughly the same, with large overhauls to better fit the story. The biggest change of the three is the entrance hall, which has gone from a darkened corridor to the wide open, glass walled Exposition Hall of the Convention Center, with the TTA looking down into the space as it passes. The preshow room is the same structurally as before, only with new colour schemes and designs, and a newly fitted screen behind the central desk. The two theatres have the same seating, but the walls and ceiling have been completely rebuilt to accommodate the new elements required for the show. To better accommodate the new floor to ceiling windows now looking out onto the Avenue of the Planets, the existing Fastpass+ kiosks have been moved to the old extended queue area, while the outdoor portion of the queue now extends up towards Rockettower Plaza, with the existing exit of the ride rerouted to run into Merchant of Venus.

The Show:

The Tomorrowland Interplanetary Convention Center - Exposition Hall:

Guests enter the main exposition hall of the Tomorrowland Interplanetary Convention Center, a large open space with floor to ceiling glass windows on the left, and exposition posters for such events as "Mission to Mars: History or Hoax?" And "XS-Tech Teleportation: Seize the Future" on the right, with planters and benches scattered throughout. The Tomorrowland Transit Authority looks into this hall from above, as guests are ushered into The Professor's booth.

The Preshow Stage:

As guests enter, they are greeted by BEN-E, the most advanced robotic simulation of intelligence, who has a quick demonstration of the professor's technology for the guests. He sits at a control panel, and is fumbling with the controls when guests enter. To either side of the control panel sits a time manipulation tube, and within each is an observation robot (SKP-1 and SKP-2), broadcasting a live feed of its vision to a screen behind the control panel. As the robots scan the room, showing the guests' faces on the screen, BEN-E introduces the professor's invention, describing the wondrous things it can achieve. He notes that he has a few destinations already planned out, and sends the two scouts off into the past and the future.

With that, the lights dim, both tubes fill with smoke, and electricity flashes in the tubes. When the smoke clears and the lights return to normal, the two robots have disappeared, and their feeds on the screen have gone to static, with time/date indicators over the tubes flashing and changing. The first robot, SKP-1 arrives in the Jurassic period, it's feed displaying tropical foliage and a distant volcano. BEN-E explains that it is scouting around for landing locations, and takes it out to explore, locating a nest of Stegosaurus along the way. BEN-E then realises that the second robot is still moving forward through time, and pulls it out, a lot further into the future than intended. He proudly announces "the future!", but the location SKP-2 has arrived at is a post apocalyptic wasteland, with no living things in sight. The robot sets off to explore, finding nothing but rubble and dust. BEN-E initiates a lifeform scan, and finds a reading directly behind the robot. Turning it around, guests see a quick glimpse of a Morlock, before the feed switches to static.

BEN-E panics, and pulls both scouts back into the vortex. The lights flicker off, the tubes fill with smoke, and electricity flashes again. SKP-1 rematerialises intact, and begins scanning the room again. SKP-2, however, has been reduced to a pile of scrap metal, broken and sparking. BEN-E assures the guests that everything will be fine, and ushers them into the theatre.

Main Theatre - The Time Capsule:

As guests enter the time machine's passenger chamber, they see a central vortex induction coil, surrounded by 4 tiers of seats, each with a safety harness. On the walls behind the seats are a series of shutters, behind which lie CircleVision screens, and two large portholes on either side of the chamber. Below these screens are various vents, displays and machines, and above the guests heads are a series of supporting vaults. Between each vault is a metal mesh screen, above which are assorted pipes and tubes, and a maintenance catwalk. BEN-E appears on screens surrounding the top of the vortex induction coil, and encourages guests to move around the rows and fill every available seat. Once guests are seated, the harnesses lower onto their shoulders, the main lights are dimmed, and a series of spotlights illuminate the coil.

BEN-E informs guests that they will first be visiting the Jurassic period, and that the scout robot has located a suitable landing site. He flicks a few switches on his panel, and the machine whirs into life. Lights flicker and fluctuate on the various pieces of machinery around the room, and the vortex induction coil begins to glow blue, as the containment tube fills with smoke. Electricity courses through the tube and the supporting ceiling vaults, and guests' seats rumble as time/date indicators tumble backwards rapidly. BEN-E suddenly realises that he forgot to compensate for the additional passengers, and boosts the power, inadvertently sending the chamber back too far. He opens the shutters, and the CircleVision screens show a fiery, molten world outside as the chamber begins to heat up. The guests have ended up at the birth of the planet, and BEN-E quickly attempts to send them forwards again.

When the shutters reopen, the environment outside is a lush, prehistoric jungle, with numerous animals flying over the capsule. A T-Rex is spotted a few metres away, and seems to be looking right at the capsule. BEN-E assures the guests that it can't see them, as the transpari-phase system is activated. Nevertheless, the T-Rex begins pacing towards the capsule, while an eye appears just outside the opposite porthole. With an ear-splitting roar, the chamber shakes and creaks, and smoke starts to pour out of one of the vents. BEN-E reactivates the machine, leaving the shutters open as it enters the vortex.

With the transpari-phase system functional again, BEN-E informs the guests that they are heading somewhere "more civilised", and they materialise at the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle. They arrive a few years early, and BEN-E moves them forward 'slowly', so they can watch the Eiffel Tower being constructed outside. After watching Paris develop a little, they move to the 1964/65 New York World's Fair, and then EPCOT Center, watching both grow and develop around them, before BEN-E takes the guests into the future.

Unfortunately, BEN-E has loaded up the time co-ordinates from the second scout, and the capsule arrives in the post apocalyptic distant future. As the machine phases in, it begins to malfunction. The landing was not properly planned out, and so the machine phases into the same space occupied by a Morlock nest. Sparks fly, lights flicker, and the room begins to fill with smoke. A Morlock phases into the vortex induction coil containment tube, a few ceiling panels fall, allowing loose pipes and wires to dangle above guests' heads, and the lights go out completely. BEN-E is panicking, making a lot of noise and getting nothing done, while Morlocks roam the capsule. Binaural sounds, misters, warm air, water spray, seat vibration, and restraint motion all combine to create the illusion that the Morlocks are really there, while the occasional flash of light reveals one hanging onto the ceiling snarling at guests, or standing on the broken containment tube. Eventually, BEN-E gets the power working again, and pulls the capsule back into the vortex. The electricity flashing around the room catches the Morlocks, and they begin to screech until it causes them to explode, showering the guests with blood (water).

The capsule arrives back in Central Florida, and the view out of the windows shows a fully functional Tomorrowland city, with the TTA and monorail whizzing around, and Space Mountain and the Astro Orbiter visible in the distance. The Tomorrowland Interplanetary Convention Center is being constructed around the guests, and once complete, the capsule lands with a thud, and the lights flicker back on. The smoke begins to clear, and BEN-E lifts the restraints, wishing guests a happy trip onwards, and pleading them not to mention the "little detour". As guests leave the theatre, he can be heard muttering about how much this will cost to fix, and how much work he will have to put into it.

Exiting the theatre, guests will now enter either Mickey's Star Trader's or Merchant of Venus, depending on which theatre they entered, both of which now stock items based on the experience, and the characters of BEN-E and the Morlocks.

References and Easter Eggs:

Throughout the experience, there are many references to previous attractions. Firstly, when you enter the main Exposition Hall, there are posters on the wall advertising "Mission to Mars: History or Hoax?" and "XS-Tech Teleportation: Seize The Future", referencing Mission to Mars and ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, respectively. Then, BEN-E refers to himself as "the most advanced robotic simulation of intelligence, a reference to SIR, who hosted the preshow for Alien Encounter. The two scout robots in the preshow are named SKP-1 and SKP-2, in tribute to Skippy, who appeared in the two tubes in both preceding versions of the show. Finally, throughout the experience, many pipes, tubes, displays and panels are labelled with the following codes:

  • CL-NCH
  • LC-C
  • SP-LK
  • Fe-MS
  • GN-2
  • X-STK
  • ST-CH
  • L1-L0
  • M2M-75
  • F2-TM-71
  • AIT-16
See if you can work out what these reference for yourselves!

Realism:

The whole experience was designed to be something that Disney would realistically build, as opposed to a fantastic pipedream that has no chance of ever happening. Therefore, the layout was kept roughly the same, with only minor structural changes, and many show elements were retained from previous iterations of the attraction. The biggest structural change is the new glass wall for the Exposition Hall, followed by the new wall and ceiling structure for the two theatres. The preshow area is kept the same structurally, with a new copper and brass colour scheme to better fit the new story, a few new props, and a new TV monitor installed behind the control panel to display the two scout robots' feeds. BEN-E is a repurposed SIR / Sergeant 90210 animatronic, featuring a new head and body panelling.

Inside the theatre, the seating is the same, with enhanced effects and a new colour scheme. The teleportation tube now contains the vortex induction coil, and has a space at the base of the tube for the Morlock animatronic to rise from, along with another section of coil. This Morlock animatronic is a repurposed Stitch animatronic, and the Morlock hanging from the capsule ceiling is a newly built version of the same model, mounted onto a system whereby it can be swiftly lowered into and raised out of the theatre, allowing it to appear to scuttle around the ceiling vaults. The walls and ceiling of this theatre have been completely rebuilt to accommodate all of the assorted machinery, vents, ceiling vaults and panels, pipes and tubing, and the CircleVision screens and portholes necessary for the new story.

Technical Specification:

Preshow length: 5 minutes
Main show length: 12 minutes
Load / unload: 3 minutes
Theatre capacity: 162
Theoretical hourly capacity: 1296
Fastpass+: No
Ticket rating: C-Ticket
Height restriction: 40in (101cm)
Notice: This attraction may be too scary for young audiences

Other Notes:

The attraction would be the launching point for a return to the New Tomorrowland update that launched Alien Encounter, with the TTA now referencing buildings such as the Tomorrowland Interplanetary Convention Center, Tomorrowland Metropolis Science Center, and Rockettower Plaza again. This would provide a cohesive overall story to the area, and remove all of the characters and IPs that don't really belong in a futuristic spaceport city such as Tomorrowland.

1) I like this a LOT.

2) Not sure how benches would work within a queue, but it does have promise.

3) I'm having trouble criticizing this, because it is so well done.

4) References and Easter Eggs, unlike "ride stats" actually mean something.

5) I can't say much else.

This was so well done, so perfect. The visuals were perfectly placed, and the writing is well edited.

You sir, get an A+.
