Matt. Another friend.

Ok...here we go as I tear you apart?

1) And has earned the title from some as this generation's Star Wars.

My response...nope. Not in the slightest.

Wait until the people who HAVE money start pressuring the box office. Star Wars is going to beat anything James Cameron dreamed about, I suspect.

See, here's the issue. There are people who love fantasy, and they tend to be under 12. There are people who dream about life, and they tend to be below age 25. Then there are the people with MEANS...meaning money to spend, and they tend to be a bit older who love both.

While I wholly admit that trends are set by the young, for the most part (Game of Thrones was written when the Author was well over 40, but TRENDS are what I'm talking about) that doesn't mean that trends are the domain of the young.

I'll just let that marinate and leave it with this...I can drop several thousand dollars on a Disney vacation. Can you? What is my spending power vs yours, and how do you, as a company, tap into my spending power?

That is something that should sit in the back of your mind every time these sorts of topics come up. Just because the idea is new, doesn't mean it is really "new" or that it well thought out.

Ok, old man rant over.

2) I really enjoyed the way you broke up your presentation. Two thumbs up there.

3) I liked that you had two "intense" versions.

4) First comment, and this goes back to JDM's submission, this is an IP heavy concept, not original. I will openly admit that I think JDM had a better concept here, but this concept so far sounds great.

5) "Then, using the new AA tech being studied" Link that? What AA tech is being "studied"?

6) Same issues I had with previous submissions, you make for a very interesting description, without explaining how it will happen. The latter is great "blue sky", but it isn't "imagineering" (note the end, engineering)

7) Interesting idea to use Groot. I like.

8) Not sure how this would actually WORK.

9) Ah, the classic Matt "thank you". You are welcome.

Overall, great submission. I liked your concepts, but I have issues with them. Especially the IP (and yeah, we could get into a Tintin sort of debate, but that's up the hosts...)

Overall, nice stuff, good job, and well...

<final grades coming later>
I try to keep it classy with the thank you, haha.

I will admit, I heavily procrastinated and did this all in like 2 days, and rushed it a lot.

For the tintin comment, I researched a bit, and found in a Theme Park Insider article that Disney would be able to make a GotG attraction, but ONLY if the seats don't move. So it pretty much was limited to being a show, so I altered my original plan a bit and sort of just threw that in there.

I actually thought that I linked the article in my submission, but here it is:

Point by point as I read it review, as usual...and for those who haven't read these, I'm a harsh critic, but it's not personal. <wink> It's critical and subjective analysis...and what good is critical analysis if it's not critical?

So, moving on...

1) Stitch is located in the North building of Tomorrowland. Not sure where you got "Theater 1 of Tommorrowland South" from. Could you explain?

2) I don't see how Jules Verne fits with a world of "Tomorrow", though I do applaud the thought. Steampunk, while an amusing and amazing new trend in popularity, has nothing to do with "Tomorrow". That said, thematically, it belongs far more in Adventureland or Fantasyland, not Tomorrowland.

3) Ok, I like the nods to the past in the queues, as this is how Tomorrowland attractions traditionally told their stories (before the modern age of Disney). They told you briefly where we were, and then the end queue was where we are, and the ride itself was where we are going. So, good choices here!

4) Not sure what the cart with glasses means...though it is a nice environmental touch, if there was more meaning, you should expand upon that.

5) You needed to go into far more detail about the Showroom. For example, how would said "individual moving seats" work mechanically? It wouldn't take much, a paragraph or two, but, you tossed it aside with "WDI would invent something new", which is a throw away and diminishes your actual concept.

6) I found it darkly amusing that you felt it necessary to say that 2D meant "no glasses"...

7) You shoot yourself in the foot with the next section, where you start by saying that you've done nothing "new"...it's, using your own words "practically identical to the ride in Tokyo". Um, ok...then...what exactly did you Imagine? You probably should have left that out.

8) "The show itself will be practically identical to the ride in Tokyo. In the beginning, all the seats would turn to face Mount Prometheus, which would then seem to be coming at you" I wish you'd added a sentence to explain this in more detail, because it sounds amazing.

9) Ok, how did the grass disappear unless you are in some sort of Sourin type setup for the seats? Again, tails, not imagery, would help send the imagery home and nail it. Same with the next sentence. Sounds great, and is easy to write, not so easy to craft into a practical ride, and that is part of the challenge. Not the visuals alone, but how you craft them into practical effects. GREAT imagery though, very well done!

10) The wall looks like a Wonderland themed rave club?

11) Overall, neat idea, but I feel like you just walked us through a DisneySea ride, not come up with your own unique version of a MK refit.

Tech specs didn't add much. You already said it was a cloned attraction, then you described a cloned attraction...so...whatever...

Overall, decent. Your writing style is nice, your presentation is easy to ready and spot on. I liked this submission.

And I'm allowed to like it, cause this is the discussion thread. So...good show! I believe this is your first comp, and as a first comp submission, I'd say you did extremely well! Kudos for that and welcome to the family!

<grades will come later>
1) I thought Stitch was in the Tommorowland South building, I was just wrong here

2) Originally I was going to have Theater 1 be JTTCOTE and Theater 2 be a new version of 20K, also, I think Jules Verne novels are futuristic in a more Sci-Fi way, although I see why it would fit in Adventureland. Also, I wanted to do something unique for my first challenge, and knew no one else would pick this *coughgaurdiansofthegalaxycough*

3) Thank you :)

4) It is a cart for 3D glasses that are required to view the show, I guess that should have been specified

5) I realize this, I thought the project was due Sunday night, and I had a school project to finish, so I never got around to the ride system

6) You never know :p

7) I agree

8) Basically, the chairs would swivel to face Mt. Prometheus, and then the video would move closer to the mountain, like the Aladdin scene in Philharmagic

9) Well, it was supposed to go down into the floor, I never really thought that part through

10) Yes :p

JDM, JDM, my dear friend JDM...your turn. <grin>

1) I'm having trouble picturing your pre-queue. I mean, I get it, it's a waiting area in a galactic "airport"...but, nothing seems amazing out it. Plus, where is that animatronic going to go?

2) Tom-Morrow reference = like

3) How did you come up with XS-ST04? That's a rather specific and unique designation.

4) Ok, before reading on, I can tell you why I like where this concept is going as opposed to the prior two I reviewed. It is NOT that the prior two were bad (they were quite good), but they both relied on some sort of cartoony IP storytelling. Tomorrowland, well...here, I'll let Walt say it.

That is/was Tomorrowland, that is/was Futureworld at EPCOT.

So, here, we have a unique IP that focuses not on Pixar or cartoons, but really focuses on US...meaning Humanity.

And that was the promise of Tomorrowland. Science Fiction is a different sort of escapism. People escaping into the future. Star Trek nerds (which I am one) are in that group. JJ didn't reboot Star Trek properly. It was never about action escapism (if I wanted that I'd enjoy Fast and the Furious, which I do, as action escapism)...

But, I'll leave that aside so I can move on.

5) Work on your latin. Nice touch, but it's so bad...so...bad... What where you trying to say? I suspect Extract Earth, which would be "Excerptum terra".

6) I like that the 3D glasses are built into the show as a show element.

7) The current bars don't offer much that modern bars can't...the reason they are so close fitting is to be sure the local effects of the bars have local impact. How would you suggest they do them better? A few lines on that would have been nice.

8) HoloLens video would help.

Here it is.

9) Still not understanding the "disks"...and their significance.

10) And now this is getting very Superhero (Marvel) and not Tomorrowland...I think had you left this a simple experience of discovery, it would have been much stronger.

11) Overall, not bad, but I think your concept lost it's rails towards the end as you wanted to tell a story with closure, rather than an open ended one.

imho, a concept set up that was unique and fantastic, that was ruined with the fact that it MUST tell a set story.

<grades coming later>

XS-ST04 = XS Tech, STitch, 2004

Not Latin, but a reference to ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter.

Creating open-ended attractions has always been a challenge for me. It just feels uncomfortable, because, I think, I've only known theme parks recently, when almost every new attraction is narrative driven. I'm working on it though.

1) I like this a LOT.

2) Not sure how benches would work within a queue, but it does have promise.

3) I'm having trouble criticizing this, because it is so well done.

4) References and Easter Eggs, unlike "ride stats" actually mean something.

5) I can't say much else.

This was so well done, so perfect. The visuals were perfectly placed, and the writing is well edited.

You sir, get an A+.

(even though final verdicts are later)

Wow, thanks a lot! :D In other news, I think I have a pretty solid concept down for the Sudden Death, so watch out you other three! :P @ScorpionX @2001DISNEYLIFE @ctxak98

It's not the rights of the IP, it's does the IP "fit" with Tomorrowland that I take issue with. I should have clarified. (not that my opinion matters, I'm not a judge <grin>)

That said, that article is fantastic. Hadn't seen it before, thanks for sharing!

@ctxak98 and @2001DISNEYLIFE I love the attempt to improve the Carousel of progress but instead it made me cry. :I To me it's like the Tiki Room and Small world.. Its one of the few original works Walt had a hand in creating and I would be devastated to see it go (More so then the other attractions, Carousel is always the first ride I ride at Disney World). I love the attempt, but you need to be extra careful.

@Matt7187 and @Brer Panther ( I love the love given to the Speedway, esp after a few month ago the PML and other gave me Heck for loving the smells and sound of the Tomorrowland Speed way. :D Good Job?

Team82 I love the attention given to Figment and his home. My Stuff Figment currently watching over my desk approves. :D

Dream Team, I love the love given to the Great Movie ride. Great work and a Great Proposal

Team World: I love that you guys went out and tried to improve the an area of Animal Kingdom and I love the Enviromental awareness your trying to arise. I would be curious to see how it would work, for some reason these attempts don't work well in Animal Kingdom (ie current iteration of Kali and the original Iteration of the Safari).. Perhaps this is the design that could change that trend.

The Skippers: Thank you for keeping the Jingle Cruise, I am one of the Big supports of it. I love the Jingle Cruise :)

Team Key West: I love the Green Energy, but keep in mind that Windmills have high Noise complaint issues and birds hitting them. It's something to consider. I love the focus on greener energy though!

I think I got all the teams :D

We actually didn't change anything really, just added 2 scenes. It's harder to improve the carousel of progress than you think! Because I agree it's such a classic I didn't really want to change it!

We actually got rid of some of the decorations for the Jingle Cruise. Those being all the ones in and outside the temple area. So technically it was scaled down, but we made up for it by adding decorations to the plane area, and I think the gorilla's didn't have before either, but now they do.

I don't even care so much for the decoration I strangly love the change of dialog :)

Didn't realize how little time I have tomorrow, so I went ahead and posted what I have now! :( I hope it's enough to keep me in the competition! I didn't get enough time to flesh out all the details so I am kind of worried! Oh well, off to bed! gotta be up at 5!:)

The MyExtension+ Program ;)

What is it?

From this moment forward, each contestant will be granted a total of 4 extension hours that can be used for any and all challenges to extend your due dates.

How does it work?
If you know you need extra time to meet a challenge deadline, you can extend your own deadline up until 4 hours after the original time. But be aware that if you use all of your extension hours in one challenge, you must turn in every other project on time from that point forward. That is why it's recommended that you use your extension hours wisely.

For example:
The due date for a challenge is 8pm. Person A knows he/she needs more time, and decides to turn in the project at 10pm. Person A will use 2 out of 4 extension hours. However, Person B needs even more time and decides to submit it at 12 midnight. Person B will have used all of the assigned extension hours and will now have to submit on-time from there on out. At the next challenge, if it is due at 8pm again, Person A can submit it by 10pm.

Other things to know?
These extension hours can be used up until Session 8. You also don't have to use the extension hours if you can post your concepts on time. In fact, we encourage that you try to post on time, and don't use these hours just to try and combat someone else's project. There may or may not be a reward in Session 9 for those of you who save all four and make it there....;)

Why do this?
We want to be fair to everyone. That has always been our goal from the start. But there is a fine line between fairness and strictness sometimes. While there are due dates for a reason and we really should respect those times, we also respect that this is not anyone's occupation. It's their hobby, which is under the control of your available free-time.

Final Note:
We hope this is beneficial to everyone and if there are any questions feel free to PM the hosts. Thank you!

Got to say, this is actually pretty useless for me :/ Over here in good ole' GMTland, all of the due dates are around midnight (it's currently 1AM), so I already stay up pretty late to submit these concepts. I really can't see myself being able to use this system without sacrificing even more sleep... Having said that, I like to think I'm pretty good at time management, so hopefully I won't need to use it anyway!
