If you have ever been on the monorail, then I'm sure you have seen that huge big piece of crap :hurl: of a building hotel JUST before you get to the Magic Kingdom. Its the hotel which is NUMBER ONE in my book, that needs a HUGE renovation, because it is OLD, falling apart, and just plain UGLY to look at...I'm sorry but in all honesty that hotel needs to be gutted, and replaced with a REAL "CONTEMPORARY" resort and spa...comments?:lookaroun

There are flashier more exotic hotels around, but I was just there -- lobby, restaurants, shopping -- and I don't think it really needs work. It looks great and it has that magic train whooshing people through every few minutes to the magic kingdom which is really all it needs to be The Contemporary.

Umm yea...

OK, 1st off, I should say I have never stayed at this hotel...2nd when you ride the monorail, (i should clarify) ok you see nasty old crap laying on top of the roof, like buckets...OH many of times I have seen people in crapy worker clothing working on the top of the building (where people on the monorail can see) The Building itself is a nasty GREy color, and the windows look dirty from the outside...while on the monorail again, I do have to say that the pools look big and nice...but i still feel then need to work on this hotel 1st, AND may i add, every park...etc...ALSO b/c LIKE i have said in the past, DISNEY is turning into a Dirty, and not a high standard "Disney Quality" place...I mean COME ON, we have to all pay 50$ to get into each park, that is falling apart and becoming out dated? umm NO! please....comments?:zipit:

have you actually gotten out of the monorail and looked around?? It may be old but it isn't falling apart. It had a pretty big renovation a few years ago. Though I think the outside does really need a good pressure washing, and a good coat of paint. Though I am not fond of the decor in the rooms, they were done during the renovation.

I have one thing to say to you is that youy don't know what your talking about. It is obvious that you are very opinionated and dont know much about architecture or anything about style. The only thing I can even remotly agree is that it need to have better maintianence on it but it seems to be the same all over WDW these days.

Personally, I like what they did to Tomorrowland.

Perhaps something like that is the solution for the Contemporary.

This is exactly what has happened, In 1969 when the hotel was designed it was deemed as very futuristic with all the concreat and sleek lines, now it has sadly it seems to be dated by some since the future is here now and now that way of styling has been bassed by in favor ov something deemed a little warmer in styling.

jmarc63...nice to see you posting on my threads again, you always have something rude to say. I just want to correct your molecular and false statements. A) you don't know me, therefore don't put words in my mouth. B) if you don't like my opinions on MY threads then don't come. C) have a nice day...goodbye.

Accually the renovation of TL at WDW started in late 98 and is based on a Jeuels Vern theaming from the original books from the late 1800.

I totally agree the Contemporary needs a facelift. I was looking at pictures of the rooms last night, and they are so out of date, the are cool again! Very retro! It's now sorta like "That 70's Resort". :D

Anyway, not sure what should be done other than the obvious paint and building repairs. I guess it would be cost and schedule prohibitive to update it every 5-10 years to keep it in line with contemporary elegance.

In 1971 when the Contempoary first opened the decor and furnishings were of a futuristic styling with lots of laminants and applied accents such as formica, With sucessive renovations especially the 1997 renovation of the north garden that I personally saw being redone, They went with a more traditional decore with the rooms, want they now have lots of wood in the room and with all the furniture such as now they have a faux Amior for the TV and additional storage and instead of carpeting on the wall like they did in the 70s now have regular wall coverings.

The Contemporary was contemporary when it first opened. For you younger members here, can you imagine staying at one of the few on site hotels in the 1970's? and having to book it one year in advance? heck, it might have taken a week just to get through to Disney Resort Reservations. The hotel has had it's share of 'updates' but by today's standard, appears not so 'contemporary'. Remember the old cast member costumes for the Contemporary or Polynesian for that matter? I know you all feel it kinda is a dinosaur, but I am still in awe of the place itself, recalling what it felt like to stay on property, while 85% of the rest of visitors had to go elsewhere.

This was very true in the beginning, My dad usually booked the next years trip when we checked out. As for the resort itself don't forget there were only three places to stay untill 73 when they opened the golf club, and then it got a little better in 76 with the opening of the villas and treehouses, I dont really feel my self that it is a dinasour at all just needs to be kept up on the maintainence, However the building used the latesest techniches in building construction for the time, even though I have heard that they have been some problems with the room shells the main structure is very solidly built and the foundations for the building go down at least 200 feet into the ground, so the building itself would be as tough as the sands in vegas if they ever tryed to raize it, It would be a sad day as well, It is my personal favorite of all the places I have stayed at WDW

Aren't we fortunate that Disney has many hotels so that no one is forced to stay in this monstrosity? ;)

Seriously, I've stayed there several times, and have been pleased with my accomodations. If you can get a tower room with a park view, there's no better place to truly feel the Disney magic. In some ways, I find it more convenient than the newer hotels, with their "sprawled" floor plans. Sometimes, it's close to a 10 minute walk to get to the lobby or pool!

Of course, anyone is welcome to come on here and express negative opinions about WDW...just don't be surprised when others react to them in a less than welcoming way! ;)

After all, as cymbaldiva mentioned, this IS a WDW FAN site, not a bash WDW site. ;)

I think SG crosses over the line when he goes beyond expressing opinions to criticizing others for doing so. I think he needs a psychiatrist to help deal with his anger, which is obviously out of control. In the meantime I think he is a good candidate for being banned from the forum if he doesn't restrain himself.

SG wouldn't be the first to be banned. If you can't get along, then don't post comments about others. Opinions are opinions but criticizing others for their opinions is not nice.

It must be Michigan

UMMMM... I dont think anyone said anything about wanting it demolished. haha
