I can understand it, especially when many of your days and weekends this time of year are full of activities. It is been strange being home Saturdays with no 4 hour cheer practice. But my 12 year old is happy to have her playmate home Saturdays.

It is strange, right?! Sports are our social life sometimes. .

I managed to get my nail done, and all the shopping done. The only thing I didn't get was one spice because I didn't get to that specialty store. The stores had less than usual on the shelves but not picked clean Lots of nice fresh kale Runs and hides under large rock

You can buy all the kale you want and no one will care.

The sports are outside and he’s with his friends.
I think especially for kids who are an only child, sports practices aren’t “work” to them, they’re enjoyment and socialization.
But, I wasn’t an only child and I did love my practices too..so the only child thing might not have too much to do with it.

Relax all the kids are in the same boat and they'll figure it out even if it's not organized.

Two days to find a way to get home.

So they have been given 2 days notice to pack everything they have and find a way home? The ones that already live in the US probably have cars and can drive home, but what about those that need planes? Is Disney going to cover their air travel and find the transportation for them? If it is temporary just for the closure, why can't they just stay? I don't get that.

I got a feeling the closures going to be a lot longer then they are saying. Send them all home we don't have to pay them--- so who do they have to take their place when they reopen the end of the month if they do

I'll have to secretly watch it in my room while working from home.... DH didn't like Frozen (because it got worn out) and I know he doesn't want to watch 2.

Tell him to watch 2 on my recommendation. The Kristof song is worth it alone

I ignored all of the messages hoping that he would figure something else out. That experiment was a fail.

I have to figure out a way for him to sleep in later on mornings. He gets up at 6:30am, even on weekends unless we were out late the night before.. then he sleeps til 7-7:30.

So far today he has played 3 hours on the Switch. “Worked out” (pushups, agility ladder, lunges). Finished a report that was due Monday. Read 4 chapters of a book. Did XtraMath online, and studied for a social studies test also supposed to be Monday.
Now he’s bored out of his mind.

He said “I never realized how long a day is, if you don’t have sports. How do adults do it?”


“We’re working, T.”

“Maybe I can get a job. Will people buy lemonade or will they be scared of the corona?”



It’s pouring rain and freezing which isn’t helping. If it was nice he could be outside.

My mom is not letting B go anywhere because she doesn't want him bringing anything home to me. Poor kid will be staying home. She's only planning on going out for essentials, like groceries. My dad is still going to work, but courts are closed, so I don't know how much will come in for him.

I'm sorry to tell Mom, but if this continues for very long, while I will oblige her by not going to the gym or to work and my friends and I are texting and vid chatting but not meeting, eventually, I will need a haircut, and I will go out for that. But that's it.

Our school year ends the Friday before Labor Day. My kids are homeschooled, so it doesn't affect me. My kids are in school rain, snow, virus meltdowns, school holidays, etc. I would think that the teachers would provide actual schoolwork for the kids to do at home. They all in our district have computer access. I know many need to submit reports, homework, assignments over a school server. Maybe @ajrwdwgirl and other teachers will be getting together at the schools so they can discuss how they will implement the temporary computer based assignments. I don't think it will be a vacation. All kids will now be homeschooled for the next month. That may be a good thing, so that it shows how productive home schooling can be. It still gets looked down upon, even though where I live it is pretty normal. My two younger kids finished their actual science curriculum over a month ago. They found it so interesting that they did multiple assignments daily. That was not me pushing, they were ambitious on their own. Language Arts will be completed within 2 weeks. Now I need to find other scholastic material for them. I was thinking of a study on famous artists like Picasso, Monet, etc, .

It sounds like you do a great job with it, but I have to say a lot of people I've met who were homeschooled or who homeschool their own kids don't make it to that level. At least where I lived, the large majority of parents who homeschooled did so so their kids weren't exposed to certain subjects, and/or weren't in contact with teens of the oppostie gender. It wasn't really for academic reasons and most of them were not really equipped to teach their kids much. I think standards today are a lot more strict...at least I hope so! But the ones I knew back home were not the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree, so that's probably where the bad reputation came from. I think they've raised standards a LOT since I was a kid and I'm betting there are a lot more resources than back then. The internet alone is a HUGE resource. Youtube tutorials about science and math, crafts, etc....back when I was a kid, if you were homeschooled and your parents never graduated high school themselves, you had a problem trying to learn grammar or math. And I have to admit, I don't feel like I am qualified to teach my kid at home...how in the world would I teach them chemistry when I had problems with that myself? I think you are pretty amazing for doing what you do. I couldn't do it. I'm glad both of my kids are really bright and learn fast. I can't help them with things like science. Fortunately for all of us, my kids don't need help so far, and anything I can't help with, daddy can!
