You'll tend to find this in large IT departments. You get people who realize they aren't easily replaceable, so they get rather full of themselves. Like, "Fire me, I dare ya." I think because this guy is with a consulting service, that's basically his attitude. Like, "I know more than all of you, so go ahead and fire me. I dare ya."
You tend to find that in any IT department. They know that most people either are unable to figure out computers and programs or are unwilling to learn them so they become a necessary evil. Ego's on the loose. What I have trouble figuring out is I think you said that he didn't know how to work a "time" program? If an IT guy can't figure it out, how does anyone else?

@StarWarsGirl Have you ever parked at the Sheraton Inner Harbor?
No. I usually use Lockwood Place for the Inner Harbor or Interpark on Lombard Street for O's games. The hotels are usually very expensive unless you're staying there. Sorry!

If reviews say tight parking, believe them because they are true. We have some TERRIBLE garages in Baltimore.

Here was the email about Sunday..

Here’s an email from the club director today for our own fields..(we have 3 field locations with multiple fields on each, but not all have the smaller fields)

I just emailed the director and asked him if our field space is too booked this weekend to be able to change cancelled away games to a home game.
I don’t know if I skipped ahead in the chain of command, but I wish they could do something for these kids! He might think I’m crazy.. but oh well.

Too bad you can't get some of your money back.

That bothers me, especially since I (and all of the parents) paid for tournament fees (on top of all other fees) to a tournament that was cancelled. I’m assuming that they’ll use that money for something else at some point.

I’m just worried because Fall tryouts are Next Month!! Supposedly it’s much harder to make the Fall team because so many kids try out in the Spring. T has confidence issues in games with these kids.. or at least he did on the indoor team, that team was made up of kids a year older than him though. But I noticed that he repeatedly passed when he should have kept the ball, and when I asked why, he said “because those kids are better than me so I’d rather let them take it.” He can’t have that attitude, and game play is the only thing that’s going to build his confidence.

He wasn’t like that on my indoor team, or in SAY.. but he’s used to being the best or one of the best kids on the team, now he’s not. This is a good thing imo..it’s better to be surrounded by skilled players.. that’s what he wanted!.., but he has to get over this self-doubt.

That seems incredibly competitive for his age group! I'm kind of astounded. At that point I'd be like, yo, dude, pick a different sport, because I don't have the energy for all that.

I agree that it's best to be surrounded by skilled players, for sure. And I'm sure it will boost his confidence when he practices enough to start playing as well as they do. But not making the fall team because you passed when you should have kept it seems like something they'd be looking for in the junior pro level, or whatever it's called.

It is extremely competitive, but they really do focus on the individual players development in a good way.

Since tryouts and then accepting the offer this past September, we’ve paid for all of their additional “technical training” workshops. He excelled rather quickly in these. (more on that in the next paragraph).. and we played (paid additional) to play on an indoor and futsal team with club kids and club coaches. He was invited by the 9U coach to play on those teams.. he’s a great guy and thought it would do a lot for T, he was also concerned and a little surprised with T’s performance/confidence during team play, but he believes that T will play through it and come out on top. But as far as T’s own coach and team.. we’ve barely had any time with them!

So anyway, back to the technical training. On our first one in September I was FLOORED. I’m a huge soccer person and never even thought to teach T the skills that these kids were doing and the trainers were requesting of them. A lot of the kids have been training with the club for 2 years now.
I sat there and watched 6 and 7 year olds do things like the Maradona!! WHAT?!?!?! My mouth fell open, I looked at the parent next to me and said “Apparently I’ve been focusing on all of the wrong things.”

They focus heavily on 1v1 and they want to see the moves/skills. It’s insane. Definitely wasn’t like this when I was a young player!

Here’s the Maradona for those who don’t know.. Had to use Ronaldo for the example because it was the shortest YouTube clip.

I have to add to this, T’s technical skills have become just as good as most of the players on the team, not all, but that’s ok.. he’s surpassed some of the kids who have been playing for awhile as well.. but it didn’t translate into games on a consistent basis, he’s fine at practices. It’s all confidence related. He doesn’t need to be the best, but he needs to be confident and play the way that I know he can, and that his indoor coach knows that can. It’s not even that he’s playing bad, he wasn’t.. he just wasn’t taking control and utilizing his skills, he’s too quick to hand the call off. There’s a big gap between being a ball hog and passing too much...I definitely don’t want him to be the former, but I also don’t want him to be the latter! That part is frustrating, I can fix skills, I can’t fix confidence in a game. I agree with the 9U coach, playing through it is the only remedy. He just needs the opportunity to do so!

So the spinning move? You are right, he won't gain any confidence unless he actually plays.
