Labor Day is Monday, and this year, it just happens to be my birthday. I leave for Disneyland in three days.

I remember all the years growing up when my birthday was always a sign that Summer was over, and school was about to begin. We always went the Wednesday after Labor Day.

Sounds like you have a lot of fun stuff planned for your family.
Yep....we NEED it. We've really had a doozy of a year this year and we need some fun stuff to balance out the carp. Between my dad's passing, my FIL's poor health, DS's issues at school, and just things happening in the world, we've been pretty on edge this whole year. I'm glad we're in a position to afford the fun things we've got planned. I think I'd be having a REALLY hard time without those thing to look forward to...I am still grieving the loss of my dad, and his estate has not been easy to deal with, but the distraction of Disney and Dublin help a bit when I'm feeling particularly vulnerable to the blues.

I got to work from home for the first time yesterday. My lungs did not like the transition to 65 and rainy MD after being in Florida. Anyway, it was nice, but distracting. And by distracting, I mean there were two furballs following me around. Both of whom would jump on my lap or walk across the keyboard at random, and one of whom decided she wanted to be on my face. Which then meant I couldn't see.

And then when I wasn't working, I was followed, mostly by the smaller furball. Didn't matter where I was; eating, relaxing, sleeping (we all took a nap during my break on my bed), showering, I was followed.

The small furball has been allowed to sleep with me the past two nights. Mostly because she cries if I shut her out, but she's also been well behaved. They tend to figure out quickly that if they don't settle, they get tossed out. Though I usually shut the small furball out for a bit and let the big furball get some time with me to herself and settle where she wants, and then I let the small furball in.
I miss my furball following me around.

Sounds like a fun weekend, though, even if a bit busy. It is so hard getting rid of the baby stuff! We gave most of our stuff to a cousin of DH's who was pregnant...well, to her mother, actually, who was going to be the babysitter and needed a crib and play pen and such in her house, too. So we gave it all to them. But it was hard to admit we weren't going to be having any more babies. Now, as much as I would love another baby, I'm so glad to be out of the diaper and nap stage, and so glad that my kids are so much more self-sufficient. They can be left at home alone for short periods so my husband can drop me off at work, or like today, my son wasn't feeling great but I had to get DD to school, so I had to leave him home alone. And I want to take an anniversary trip to WDW for our 25th anniversary in 9 years. DD will be 20 and DS will be 18, so they will be adults and we can leave them here safely while we do a sort of 2nd honeymoon. I wouldn't be able to do that if we had another baby now...so I can't see us having any more.

I'm both completely disgusted and extremely proud at the amount of stuff we were able to provide my baby. I grew up dirt poor; my mom had to fashion cloth diapers from thrift store blankets. Donating all that gear to someone providing for their children against poverty like my mom did made it so much less painful to box it all up.

Bonus points for having room in our garage for the cars before the first snowfall hits too though!!

Me too. I'm now thinking about getting a kitten but my dh isn't a cat person. Today may have sealed the I want a cat deal. On my way home I passed my neighbor's outside cat defending his food bowl. A bear came around the corner sniffing and out of nowhere came kitty with his back up, fur out and hissing away. The bear ran into the woods in fear:joyfull: If I get a cat it will bean inside only one seeing we have lots of critters in my neighborhood.

I had no plans and was looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend, but this week we made a plan here and there and now I feel like it's going to be a really busy weekend!

Tomorrow my toddler and I are going to lunch with some friends and then getting the last of her baby stuff ready to be dropped off at the donation point. There's this great organization here that works directly with families who cannot afford baby things so we prefer to donate to them instead of GoodWill. Once that's done,.... there's no more denying that my teeny tiny baby is a little girl now :cry:

Saturday we're going to a festival and eating Amish fry pies until we feel sick. If you've never had an Amish fry pie, you NEED to try them!

Sunday we're going to this annual gigantic flea market type deal that we go to every year.

Monday, I don't know. Maybe the zoo? We need to weed our garden beds again, so maybe Monday will be a work around the house day.

My, that is a full holiday weekend! Will you have your daughter hand over her "toddler" outgrown clothes to the person at Goodwill? I just thought how cute that would be, if she "donated" the clothing, herself.

Never heard of Amish pies, but I bet I'd love them!! The Amish cook some really tasty food, from what I've heard. We don't have any Amish around here, so I've never actually tried any of their cooking.

My hubs would love a flea market. He likes anything "used" or even broken. :D He likes fixing stuff. It's hard for him to pass by any yard sale! ;)

She won't be there for the drop off this time, but we do collections of donations for her birthdays in lieu of presents and she gets to drop those off every year. For her birthday this year she collected food and toys and dropped then off at the humane society

Just goes to show that whether parents are wealthy or poor, some wonderful children can be raised, as long as the parents are good, decent people. I'd say your parents did an excellent job bringing you up! :) (And now you're sharing the gifts that your parents instilled in you, with your own daughter.)

Did a little skimmin' of this thread before I'm goin' back to play "ketchup".
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but, doesn't all the discussion recently of a particular subject back there belong in the new-ish "Politics and Social Issues" forum...?! o_O

I'm about 99% packed, and now I just wait for Sunday. I have a 5 day park hopper, with the possibility of 6 days in the park. My plane arrives early in Orange County, so I am leaning toward using the first day of my ticket, on that day instead of a later day. Sunday and Monday and Friday the parks are open late. Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday they are not. So, my first night I can possibly get my fill of riding the train, and watch the fireworks, and just enjoying the wonder of being there. Monday is my birthday, and a holiday and will obviously be a long tiring day. If I take Tuesday off, I can sleep late, shop at Downtown Disney, and perhaps catch a movie and dine at my leisure. Wednesday will be my DCA day, and WOC. Thursday I can use my early entry, and Friday is my Fantasmic night. That doesn't mean that I can't also see it on my birthday if I want to collect a fastpass. I wouldn't have to choose a day to skip, if Disney would just let me buy an additional day at a reasonable price. A big gripe of mine. I have given up on the AP update, since Sunday is blocked out for Deluxe, and if I did go next year with my friend Annette, she only has 5 day hoppers, and I'd want a longer trip in order to better justify the AP purchase. Makes sense to me.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. 3 more sleeps.
