Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
I just screamed and jumped up out of my chair -- turns out, there was only an imaginary bug on my arm. Initially, what I did not see, was a strand of hair that fell from my head and touched upon my arm--but the air from the fan nearby pushed the hair down my arm, making it feel like something was CRAWLING . . . on my arm. Once I realized it was just a strand of hair, I calmed down.

Also, I called the dog back into the room--he had bolted out of there! :D He can't cope when I freak out--I must always be cool, calm and collected for him. :hilarious:

Poor Jack. Big {{{HUGS}}} to him. :(

Oh my! This had me laughing hard this morning. This happens to me a lot. I freaked out the other morning when I got out of the shower because there was a "spider" on my foot. I screeched and that sent the dogs (my sister's dogs that are staying with us) nosing into the bathroom to see what was what. But it wasn't a spider, Nope it was just some of my hair. I was a little embarrassed even though it was just me and the dogs. I'm glad I'm not the only one who spazzes a little of the invisible bugs.

Invisible bugs are definitely the scariest!! :hilarious:

I just hope you don't get the years of relations asking "when are you going to find someone nice" which went to "when are you getting married" to "when are we going to hear the patter of tiny feet" that I have had to endure.
Apparently , when I'm ready.
When we are ready
And none of your damn business are not suitable replies.

I sometimes think that there are people who lead boring lives--and they have nothing better to do--than to be busy bodies.

We all could go on forever about these types of people (relatives were usually the worst :cautious: ). But I think my favorite example of unsolicited, misguided "advice" happened to me when I was about 19. I was into the dating scene, but hadn't really found Mr. Wonderful yet. Somehow, my dating status came up in a discussion in the back yard, when some neighbors stopped by. (Nothing like having the neighbors discuss your dating life. ) So, one of them brought a guest with her that day, and this woman (a total stranger to me) started giving me all kinds of advice about where I could find decent, God-fearing men, who were good providers, etc. o_O

But here's the best part: she was a NUN!!! Now, I ask you--(nothing against nuns)--um, but where in the convent does a NUN learn about how to find the best men?! :jawdrop: No response needed . . . just sayin . . . :devilish:

Says the lady that screams at invisible bugs. :p

At least I take responsibility for my lame actions! :D

Oh, you would have gotten a kick out of him tonight. I had one of those nuked Rice-a-Roni cups of rice and cheese. :hungry: I ate the entire thing, with the exception of maybe 1 grain of rice. which was stuck in the corner.

By accident, once I finished the cup, I dropped it on the floor for a second--and Jack came galloping in here and grabbed it. He fought with the cup for about 5 minutes, to get that ONE freaking little grain of rice down in the corner!

He succeeded. (There's now cup carnage all over the floor. Guess who gets to clean that up? )

My sister's dogs are gone!!! :joyfull::D:)

We have been taking care of them for 18 days and they were really naughty this time. I couldn't wait for them to be gone. Thursday is going to be upholstery and rug cleaning day. It would be tomorrow but I have a day planned with a friend I haven't seen in awhile. Even Kapono is sighing with relief that they are gone!!!!:joyfull::happy::D:)

I was gonna say, get a dog--that would round out the family nicely. (But I think you already have a dog--you beat me to it! :joyfull: )
I get that advice all the time. I have nothing against animals, in fact, they all seem to take to me immediately, however, I have gotten very selfish in my old age. I have spent my life taking care of people and things, I don't want to do that anymore. I don't want to have to go out and "walk the dog" or "find a place for a litter box" or "take them to the vet to have them put down" or "spend a fortune to keep them alive". I think twice about spending money to keep myself alive, I don't trust me with that responsibility again. I've been there and done that way to many times and I just don't want to do it again.

To each his own, and you expressed some valid reasons. For me, even if I was going broke, I'd still find a way to have a happy dog with me. :p Dogs are so much fun.

As a side note, if you really did enjoy animals but didn't want the responsibility of upkeep, bills, etc., there are pet shelters everywhere that love to have volunteers. Even one day a week, a person could volunteer to walk a few of the dogs on the grounds of the shelter, to exercise them a little. It gives the shelter staff a break, as they're already so busy doing everything else there.

That's one thing I love about Europe...I noticed a HUGE difference in the family culture when I moved here. In the US, you go to a restaurant, and it's always the mom who is carrying the kid and the diaper bag, and the mom is the one feeding the kid or taking the kid through the buffet line. Over here, it's almost always the dad. And my husband is a hopeless "flirt" with babies. Always playing peekaboo with the kid sitting at the next table, or talking to the baby who is crying in his stroller with a frazzled looking mom who doesn't know how to calm the baby. Fathers here are much more involved in general. At least in the Netherlands...don't know about other countries.

That is good about the Netherlands.
Speaking for myself (and those who have been here long enough have seen my posts about this before), and without going back into details, I was a VERY involved father. With the exception of giving birth and b r e a s tfeeding it was pretty much always 50/50. We agreed on that long before we ever had a family. We both worked full time, and I don't see how it could have been any other way. The parent doing all the care taking would be worn out, there would be animosity, etc. Especially, with 3 kiddos all so close in age, including one with special needs, it was like trying to herd cats so much of the time...!!! :hilarious: ;) But, even with just one kiddo I would have been that way. I have always loved being a father...!
Funny thing is, I remember most other families dads my age that we interacted with being mostly the same way.
Although, I admit I probably don't pay much attention to how it is these days, as we're so far beyond those years.
