In other things.. I returned from Valerian a few hours ago.

Solid movie, I give it a 7.5 out of 10.
Way better than Jupiter Ascending, with more good scenes and effects.
But not as solid story wise as The Fifth element.

Almost all the action is packed in the first half of the movie and gets a ton of reduction as the movie goes, and goes into a conspiracy mode.

Yea, that seems to be the problem with movies like that regarding history from that era (and other older eras). How much time do you spend setting up everything so even people who aren't familiar with that history get it and making the movie way too long and boring for them vs. cutting to the chase and keeping those people's attention just long enough to be interested in the action.
Ultimately, as time passes, most won't, unfortunately, be interested in it anyway.
As we all know, it's all about the bottom line, and they will make the movies the way they see the most profitably they can...full actual history be darned. ;)

Some profound thoughts there . . . made me pause and think about it. Yup, as usual, you're right! :geek:

Happy farm market Saturday:joyfull::joyfull::joyfull::joyfull: I really don't need anything but I'm going to go and walk around for a while because the guys will be working on a noisy project this morning and if it doesn't clear up by then I'll just go and walk around Walmart and/or the stores near it:D I hope all of you have happy weekend plans:joyfull:

That's one of my favorite things -- walking around with no destination. Leave brain at home; go walk and walk . . . until something happens to break the trance . . . :p Sometimes, it can be interesting. :D

We too were quite familiar with the story of Dunkirk so we had no trouble following it, but we thought that people less familiar would have difficulty putting it all together. I think it is worth seeing eventually or at matinee prices like we saw.
I wasn't familiar with Dunkirk (thanks AP World History for not going into the details of WWII and skipping cool stuff like that...). But I was able to follow the story. The Allies were trapped by the Germans in the village before the US joined the war, and the British were getting their troops out. I was able to follow it. :)

I guess I was just looking for them to develop it a little more that's all. I did remember learning about it in my history classes.

I wish...! ;)
It's just something that I've always heard the people that are making these "historical" vs. historical movies always seem to struggle with a bit. "Historical" being a fictional story set in a particular time in history, and historical being them trying to recreate an actual full historical event as accurately as possible. Depending on which, I can definitely see where the decisions based on things like story setup, story lines to keep the audience engaged, action, running time. etc., etc., etc., come into play, and it can be difficult to reach the right combination of those decisions. :)
