It says it's supposed to reopen in the summer, but it doesn't give a date. I'm guessing it will be open by the time we go there at the end of July. I've never been on it and I'm afraid of heights, but I kind of want to see it anyway...so I'm wondering, I know you are in a seat kind of like a chairlift, right? How high up are you actually and are you strapped in pretty well? Does it feel sturdy?
I have a daughter that has a severe problem with heights. I have had to actually hang on to her as she went down flights of stairs. She has no problems with Soarin. It is like a big bench that lifts up over the screen. Even at it's highest it isn't much different then looking out a second story window. You are belted in and are not going anywhere even if you tried. You go out over a screen and the movie is projected in-front and below you. The highest point is the front row, but, it also the most unobstructed view. Either of the two following rows do not rise as high, but, have a distraction of peoples feet hanging down in part of your view. As for structure, my goodness when you look at the part of the machinery that supports the benches you would swear that the steel arms and braces could hold up a skyscraper. It is as solid as any attraction that I have ever seen. The movement is mostly in one's head. The movie give you the feeling of movement through the sky, but, the seats are stationary with the exception of some minor sideways tilting to fit the particular path of the scene you are looking at. When you are flying down a river filled with canoes, etc. you swear that at one point you feet are going to kick one of the boaters in the head. All that time you really haven't moved it's just that the picture is taken so it appears that you are close to them by the use of zooming in.

I don't know if the new film will be in there when the reopen, but, either way I would recommend giving it a try. Worse case scenario, you just close your eyes until it's over. When it's all said and done it is easy to see that you actually haven't really moved more then 30 feet forward and only tilted a couple of inches side to side. One of the best illusions that I have ever witnessed.

For the benefit of those the subscribe to the idea that misery loves company, it is currently snowing here in Raleigh. So you don't get to smug about it, it's not sticking to anything as the temperature is still above freezing and the ground is still warm, but, it is snowing. I'm pretty sure that this act of nature is illegal here in North Carolina.:cold:

Disability access service. My brother has autism; it's a special pass that we can use to reduce wait times and keep his stress level down (and allow for fewer meltdowns). We use it sparingly, but without it, we'd have a lot more meltdowns and general issues.
Yeah, once someone said for Disabilities, I assumed it was because of his Autism. How does he handle the noise and the lights and everything in the parks, or does that not bother him? My nephew has autism and loud
For you lovely lady I will share my hot chocolate. :inlove:
Thank you! You're a life saver!!

trust me.. Soarin' could not wait any longer.. the whole state of the building was deplorable on new years...
You could see cables, tubes, etc in a lot of parts of the queue.. then other temporal walls blocking clear construction areas as well.
I'm betting they did it this way because they'll want to have it open in the summer when it's packed...they'll want both Frozen and Soarin up and running. But if Soarin is going to take 6 months and Frozen doesn't open until April, they'd have to have Soarin shut down for the entire summer rush. So I'm guessing that's why they didn't wait.

It is even too cold to take out the trash across the pond.

Yes, that was last week, but only in one part of the Netherlands. We didn't have that where I am, and the Netherlands is not a large country. Lots of accidents and stuff where this happened. One of my colleagues showed me this video at work last Monday. Or...I think it was Monday? Maybe it was Thursday. Now I don't remember when I even worked last week. But we didn't get this weather, thank goodness.

See I know it's really a popular ride and everyone says it's a must see, but I had trouble with the Dr. Seuss train at Universal...I thought I was going to fall out every time it went around a curve, and it's not that it's particularly fast or high up, but if I can see down and it feels like I'm not secured in, it will freak me out. Ferris wheels are similar...you aren't secured in any way except the bar across your lap and I keep thinking...if that fails...the mechanism won't hold my weight or it isn't latched properly or whatever, there is nothing to stop me plunging to my death. And if there's nothing securing the sides, it's scary as well. Those lap bars don't really cover your sides and you can still slide around and it feels loose. But if my upper body is secured, I think I'd be ok. Thanks for the explanation....I think I want to try it and see.

You definitely won't fall out. Each seat has individual seat belts (like Star Tours) and for kids there is an extra safety strap that goes between their legs. I've seen adults use that extra belt. You can always request the lower level because a CM will assign you to a row. There was a trip I broke my ankle right before our trip (I had just gotten the cast off and into a boot) so I had an ECV. They put me in the lowest row every time that trip and I must have really been lucky because I never saw other people's feet. You could always close your eyes during a scene if it bothers you. :)

:joyfull: I like your canoe explanation. Since my daughter's first ride many years ago she always tells me "I could kick them in the head".

Happy Sunday everyone! Woke up to -15 this morning with a real feel temperature of -34 because of the wind chill. Currently it is -8 with a real feel temp of -24, but it is sunny out! We' ve had a few days of gloomy weather so even though it is super cold, I'm loving the sunshine.

Happy Sunday! I'm glad at least it's sunny where you're at, despite the arctic temperatures. BRRR!!!

Yikes! It's a little warmer over here and we've got the sun too. It's nice to see it - I think it helps ease the cabin fever! They're saying it starts to warm up after Wednesday and will be close to 32F on Saturday. I hope the week goes fast!

It sounds like even Florida is getting some snarky weather. I hope it doesn't ruin @StarWarsGirl95's trip!

This is supposed to be our coldest day of the week and should get up to 30s by mid week. It looks like it is 63 right now in Orlando, so probably not the warmest for @StarWarsGirl95 but I'm sure she is having fun!
