I'm in deep, deep trouble! I called the store where I got my last sewing machine from and now I'm thinking about going one model up from the one I was thinking about:hilarious: It has even better reviews and it has a bunch of Disney embroidery designs built in. It's still $200 less than I spent on my last machine. Is there any chance any of you will try and talk me out of it? LOL

You sound like I was earlier in the week. Needed a new rice cooker...my fav appliance next to the slow cooker. Tried to talk myself into a cheapie. Went with the Hamilton Beach...Cadillac of rice cookers...with all the bell so and whistles. I'm like a kid at Xmas waiting for it to arrive.

Not odd at all. There are a lot cities in different areas that have the same policy. Someone else in this forum said it's the same for them after twelve. The school does make contact after the fifth but if it keeps happening, they do what they have to do. Having an aunt that works for CPS (and overworked do to budget cuts) there are more important issues for them than teenagers that want to skip school. Not that there couldn't be reasons for CPS to go to those homes but usually it's teens being teens. Believe me, my sister went for my nephew just because he hated school and was Mr. Ditchy Makeabadonants as soon as he got off the bus in the morning. He eventually just quit and got his GED.

Sorry...completely misunderstood. I thought we were talking about elementary school children.

So the latest drama for today:

I was volunteering this morning before my class with some members of my religious group. We went to go get lunch, me and one of my friends, who is actually my parents' age. I was driving because the other person there was my adoptive grandmother, and adoptive grandpa told her not to drive except for getting there and coming home. My friend has a car with a lock problem, so she drives it, but won't drive other people in it.

So I was driving. I pulled into a parking spot, and realized my passenger couldn't get out, so I backed up slowly to adjust, and my friend who has three kids who she has taught how to drive, so she was watching with me. White car passed, we both saw it, stopped, no issue. Out of nowhere comes this little car, neither of us saw it until it was too late. She says, "Oh, you hit me, your fault." Normally, I would agree, but she was in the wrong lane, and if she had been in her correct lane, it never would have happened.

My friend (I don't think I've ever been more happy about someone being in my car) told her she was in the wrong lane, and the woman starts yelling at my friend. Then the woman calls the police, which was completely unnecessary because neither of us was injured and I wasn't going anywhere. The police officer gets there and tells her that he didn't need to be called, so he exchanges information for us and leaves (no report, county rule says if both cars can be driven and no one was hurt, no report). But I took photos showing that the woman was in the wrong lane and the road was marked (not with yellow lines, but there were arrows and a stop sign that clearly showed it). Still, had to deal with a nasty woman, and now I have to deal with my insurance company. Thankfully, my friend is more than willing to give a statement, and actually already called my dad on my behalf. Basically, we both think that the woman was trying to have an accident for the insurance money. My friend looked at me and said, "Honey, I've been driving for years and years, and if I had been driving, the outcome would have been the same. This is not your fault." Which makes me feel a bit better, but I'm still irritated it happened.

I cannot wait for this semester to be over because it seems like it's just one thing after another....
hopefully she will hit these guys.. and will get her deserved beatdown.

That will not happen for tonight because I have a finance test tomorrow, and you need documentation in order to reschedule the test, so I have to take it, although I'm feeling confident with the material. So I have to study.

My Inside Out blue ray came yesterday, so maybe I'll watch that tomorrow after I come home for the day. Oh...another stupid story. THe blue ray was supposed to be delivered Saturday. It wasn't. I called the post office. Oh, we scanned it wrong; it'll be delivered Monday. Monday comes, no package, so I go up to the post office. They say they'll investigate, call me Tuesday. Tuesday, I call my mom. No package, no phone call. I call them. Turns out a new substitute driver delivered it to a completely different street, not anywhere near us and not even sounding like our street name. Thankfully, the person who got it was honest and sent it back.:banghead:

No. More. Stupidity!
I still wonder why theres so many mistakes when delivering.
If I remember, there has been the same for a few packages for members in this forum! D:

I've been rear-ended twice in the last several years. The first one took off and I had to follow her until she parked at a coffee shop, but she totally denied hitting me, even though we were literally the only 2 cars on the road at the time. I was so angry about that one because my car was brand new, and although damage was extremely minor, I just couldn't believe she was going to try to get out of it. Unfortunately, since she didn't admit fault, her insurance refused to pay.

The second one there was no question and she totally admitted fault and apologized, and even with a bit more damage to my car that time I was happy that she at least apologized. Definitely shook me up, though, as she hit me pretty hard. I ended up just taking the cash from her insurance, since it was only about four hundred dollars and not worth my time to get it fixed.

Nowadays, I'm always looking in my rear view mirror whenever I have to brake suddenly or when I initially accelerate, and I've managed to avoid a few accidents that way. Not the best way to drive, but seems necessary to me.
I glace in my mirror periodically while driving to know if there's someone behind me. The time I was rear ended, I was just sitting at a stop sign, and I crept forward, and the guy hit me. No sudden braking or anything. I'm thinking MD drivers are just bad.

So are CA drivers. The 2nd rear end I had also crept forward and she just didn't stop fast enough. She said she was really tired. Great. :grumpy:

We have a kid who for two years now has been ditching or not showing up to school. He said he "missed" the bus and couldn't get a ride and said it was too far to walk or ride his bike. Anyway, long story short, the other day our principal found him at the public library playing computer games. The kids had missed the bus again but could make it to the public library....less than a block away from the school. So I guess that one block more to the school is just to much for him.

Sorry to hear about this. I'm glad you or your passenger didn't have have any injuries and that you have a witness and photos to back you up. The other driver sounds like an idiot.

I have rediscovered my rice cooker and am in love with it again. It is a super cheapie though. I think I got it for less than $10 at Walgreens a few years ago.

We had a package delivered to us that wasn't ours. The mail person put it on our porch and after she left I went out to get it. When I saw it wasn't ours I just left it out there as hubby was due to come home soon and I was going to have him run it over to the post office. Anyway, about a half and hour after it was the delivered the mail lady came by again and took it away. She must have realized her mistake or something.

In a somewhat related story... I got my car's license plate renewal in the mail, it is really just a postcard. And I went to put it in my bills and I thought it felt strange. My neighbors' plate renewal card was stuck to mine. I thought it was kind of strange that we had plate renewals at the same time. But anyway, I think that mail and packages get delivered to the wrong places a lot. Hopefully people are honest and send them on to the right person.

My old one was in the $20 range. My new one was only $50 and it is top of the line. Rice cookers seem to run cheap, thankfully. We use ours at least twice a week. The new one has a timer so you can get it ready for up to 15 hours ahead of time. Lol

Was that program called "A White House Christmas"?

I don't recall, but that sure sounds familiar. I've seen various White House holiday programs--the ones that go inside and show you how they decorate the White House. The decorations are spectacular, not to mention the trees throughout, particularly the big, main tree. You may be right--the gingerbread house process might have been in one of those holiday specials. I've been enjoying those type of shows for a number of years, so that's why I can't exactly place which show it was on. Reminds me of the (older) Home and Garden channel, before it turned into carp tv. I use to love the early years of H&G--they had plenty of those types of shows around the holidays.

My pop will be 83 on Jan. 1st, and is quite a bit different.
Both my folks were raised on farms in south-central Texas, so they still cling to some older fashioned ways, but, they've also learned to roll with the times to a large degree, due to love, compassion, and understanding.
I have 3 younger siblings - 2 brothers, one 18 mo. younger than myself and the other 5 yrs. younger, and a 12 yr. younger sis.
All 3 of us boys never completed 4 years of college and my folks paid for all 4 years for our sis to get a degree.
I just never felt college was right for me, at the time.
Both brothers started, but, never finished.
Sis finished with a degree in fashion merchandising.
Funny thing is, we're all successful - in different ways...
I'm a designer for an architectural firm, next youngest bro and his wife own a medical supply company, youngest bro is an IT guy for the state, and sis is a stay-at-home mom. :)

You have a nice family.
