Do you know that it is a FACT that when the gas company gets a call from a woman who is smelling gas, that they come out immediately. Ask any gas company representative--women have a more acute sense of smell, at least as it relates to gas. I always thought that was interesting.

seems my mother and I are switched, because I'm the one who smells it even from the second floor when she forgets to turn down the stove. Kinda dangerous.

Same about smelling when things are about to go bad.
Reminds me that when I worked at a restaurant.. they told me to NOT smell the meat. Because I would detect the bad smell earlier than normal. Thus they said I was wasting food.

It's funny how traditions vary from family to family. I've only had regular apple cider (not hard cider!) with my Thanksgiving meal. I certainly don't mind a glass of wine; but to me, the only proper Thanksgiving beverage is apple cider, because that was what my mother always had.

None of those are signature and those menus are current. Even many QS places offer items like grilled chicken salads, vegetable flatbread or turkey wraps on their kids menus. After 20+ trips with my daughter I've learned to look for variety.

what the hell.. do they change the menus seasonally?
because I went in January and I swear almost every single restaurant I got close, had the kids menu with "burgers, nuggets, hotdogs" .
particularly at MK.

The wine isn't a tradition so much as I'm trying to support a local farm. The plan is to have a glass on Thanksgiving but it may stay closed until Christmas.

Chourico stuffing. We had it for the first time at Thanksgiving last year and I am making it a tradition. I have no clue what we are doing Christmas Eve, we usually have a mini family party at my gandparents house.

What my management textbook thinks about Disney...

1. "They make use of costumed characters to entertain customers waiting in line." Um, no
2. "Mobile vendors sells food, drinks, and souvenirs to guests in line." Um, very rarely.
3. "They sell special passes for a fee that allows customers to go to the front of the line for some attractions and to get into the park before its normally scheduled opening." Um, no, and there was also a grammatical error in that sentence.

I actually wondered why the hell they didnt have stands next to attractions which had very long lines.
It could help by selling them water and other stuff.
Id totally buy inline.
the only area I seen a cart near a huge line of waiting people.. was on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. (2 carts, one for mist fans and memoralia, and other of drinks)

Good for you. Whenever possible, I also try to support small, local businesses.

I'm emailing the professor because one of the assigned questions is asking what Disney does, and that whole section is just...wrong.

Yeah, Disney needs to correct the publisher but it is more flattering than harmful to them though the front of the line comment could cause some confusion for guests when purchasing passes.

Sympathy like. I'm lucky my boys would always eat everything (placed in front of them) and now they eat everything (in sight) LOL

DD eats almost anything now. She was picky as a toddler, but now she's a lot better. They tell you here that what you eat during pregnancy sets the tone for your child's eating habits and if you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables during pregnancy and when you are nursing, they will like those foods. So not true. With DD, I had zero appetite and had a hard time finding anything that sounded good, and she eats almost anything.With DS, I ate tons of fruits and veggies and healthy stuff because I was determined to be healthier about it with him, and he won't eat any of that.

Improving the education system and supporting teachers will lead to our children having a better life than us. And then the children will be in a position where a few extra nickels and dimes toward these systems won't be a big deal. If we keep settling for less for the sake of spending less money, less is all we will ever get.

Yes I've heard this many times over and it does have some validity to it many times an over simplification. I can only speak to our state and I am well versed in our county and of course our community, money isn't the cure all to everything. I'd say 3/4 of the staff we have is great to excellent. I could argue both sides of the coin on tenure and ultimately I always support tenure however over the 1/4 of staff we have in other professions likely would not be still employed. Throwing more money at the small demographic will not cure that. Our district has ample funds but yes with the mandates we are cutting in some areas. Over decades historically schools have had too much placed on their shoulders. Legislatively it needs to change here. Funds should either come from Feds or removed from the shoulders of school districts. If you look at our employee list it is way beyond the notion of supporting teachers. Social Workers, school psychologists, an abundance of RNs that require masters in nursing, speech pathologists, physical therapists. So much of what the schools are required to shoulder now belong in other government agencies.

I'll give you few examples. We have a young girl on a vent and in a wheelchair. Of course we transport her on a special bus, given. An RN must be on that bus plus the bus driver plus a bus assistant to load her on and off. In the class room she has her RN, a one on one teachers aide and the regular classroom teacher. This isn't nickels and dimes. Of course we want this lovely young girl to be educated however many people overlook the overall cost of this when I cut budget line items for supplies, chess club or band. We are sometimes given a days notice to alter the budget for a new move in student. It isn't that we don't support our teachers it is the pie gets divided up so many ways and students like this trump all, their needs come first.

Next lets use my DD as an example. She had severe speech issues as early as a toddler. She at 3 started going the school for speech therapy with the speech pathologist. She went until she was nine years old and had an IEP because of this disability. Our health insurance would not allow her to see a private therapist because federal and state laws require schools to provide for free. The district had the financial burden for six years 3x a week for therapy for my DD when in reality it is a medical issue that insurance companies are released from funding. Schools use to be responsible for educating students now for many things similar to my DDs issues funding is going there instead. In my mind it isn't more taxing of residents that needs to occur it is our legislators that need to think the mandates through before they sign things into law. I use my DD as an example frequently because I was stunned to learn that at age three the schools were responsible for her health and well being and the insurance companies were off the hook. *bangs head*
