Well isn't that special. :cautious:

There's growing confusion about how would-be flyers from Louisiana, Minnesota, New Hampshire and New York will board planes when provisions of the Real ID Act go into effect. Because their state ID and driver's license processes fail to meet federal standards, passengers from those four states would likely need a passport or, in the case of non-citizens, immigration documents for air travel within the United States.

How? How do 'we' get to this point within our own boarders? :cyclops:
Pretty easy, actually, and something you are familiar with. Unfunded mandates handed down. I know Illinois was in danger of falling on this list, too, but they must have gotten an extension.

I'm thinking it's because we let them do it to us. So much for by the people, for the people in today's government. It's getting more an more obvious that people that are smart enough to govern are also smart enough to stay away from it. We don't have to lower standards, we have already hit bottom.
It was something that started rolling after 9/11. It is meant to make sure you are who you really say you are when you board a plane.

Yes, but I'm talking about parent teacher meetings. They take place in the classroom, and we can't leave our kids home alone at 7 and 9, so we bring them and set them in the entrance hall to color or play on the ipad. They are not allowed to come into the meeting, but there are always other parents waiting in the hall, so the kids are not unattended. But I don't think it's fair to expect parents of elementary aged children to come to meetings where they are not allowed to bring their children. If you are a single parent, or like us in that we BOTH want to be there to talk to the teachers, you can't leave them home alone. If you don't have access to or can't afford a babysitter, you are left with the choice of either not going, or of bringing the kids along and let them play while you are in the meeting.
The school we are at now has student led conferences. Teachers do stay, too for the younger ones. I like it much better than the old neighborhood school. Kids weren't allowed, and I always felt like we were talking behind my son's back.

Oh I feel for ya. Senior year for my 2nd kid her senior year was hard, with 5 years to go from my DS to my DD it didn't impact me as much with DS with such a long way to go yet. I wept at her graduation like I did with my DS preschool graduation as they sang Wings beneath my feet. My DS skipped his college graduation to take a position at Disney, that was kinda a rough decision. We all made a pilgramage to my DD college graduation, 3 generations. She graduated with honors, cords and all in the rain and none of use cared. It was her day.

It is indeed a rough time for us parents to watch them move to adulthood. Hugs. Has a college been decided yet?
He is still touring and filling out applications, but last week he was accepted to his "fall back" school, and yesterday, we learned he has earned a $20,000 yearly scholarship, and an invite to apply to their Honor's College.

Our school does this in the second term around April. There is also an old school parent teacher interview in November and February. I agree with you that the student-led conferences were wonderful.

Feeling fine, thank you for asking! :D No, I don't suffer from frostbite of the brain, but admittedly, my brain is a malfunctioning unit on all other levels.

So, yes, call a psychiatrist, but before you do that, there's plenty of other crazies on here that might also benefit from a group session. For example, maybe @MR FERRET and I could go for a two for one price deal consultation with the psychiatrist. (Note: I said one consultation, because after the two of us, I think we'd get kicked out as incorrigible!) :hilarious: (P.S.: I'd also pass along the word to the psychiatrist that there's plenty more where we came from, too!) :p
I'll join you!

Thank you, Bets! :)
Pop is doing very well, and so are we all!
Friday night we went to dinner with some friends. They have a new bundle of joy. DWifey used to work with her at Payless shoes. He's in his early 40's, and she's in her late 30's. Kinda' a "surprise", the little bundle was. ;)
We had a great visit with all of our kiddos (they now have 3, as well). :)
Chilled Saturday.
Sunday we did the National Down Syndrome Society Buddy Walk. Oldest DD is a teacher at The Rise School of Austin. It is an inclusive learning environment. Kiddos with disabilities, kiddos without. Many of her students were at the walk. A great time for a great cause...! :)

I'm glad y'all had a great trip! :)
And, January is right around the corner for y'all...!!! :joyfull: :)
Thanks a bunch @donaldtoo. Glad all is well for you and the family.
