I know lots of folks that add ketchup to chili. Not me, though.

Why would anyone add ketchup to chili when a good amount of the recipe already has tomatoes in it? I like to add a little sour cream, shredded cheese, and diced scallions to top of my chili.

When my niece was little she would want mayonnaise sandwiches for lunch. Forget pb&j, just a thin layer of mayo on bread.

That's just like my Mulligan stew. If it's gotta be used up, it goes in the pot. I've had many different combos.

Yup. This reminds me a little of some of the Native American pow wows (summer/fall) that we've visited down through the years. (The Native American sponsors invite in everyone to enjoy a nice day; it's not just limited to the Native American people in the area.) Visitors bring all kinds of food--veggies, meats, etc. and they just throw everything into a huge pot of boiling water over the fire, and make a community meal. Tastes pretty good, too--and there's never any "recipe" used!

There's a little deja vu for me in your comment. My father used to LOVE what he referred to as "sloppy" meals. Anything with gravy or a soup-type base, that he could also take some bread and sop up the last little bit on the plate, was his absolute favorite style of meal!!

Yes, the Mosaika light show is awesome! I was living in a dorm at the University of Ottawa so Parliament was just a short bus ride away. I used to go down to Parliament Hill all the time to watch it. Always made my cry.

I don't care what anybody says, Ottawa is far more beautiful than Washington DC and a much better capital.

That's a lovely picture you shared. I do think you're short-changing Wash. DC a little bit, though. Have you ever seen the nation's capitol in cherry blossom time in the spring? It's gorgeous.

I honestly recover qwuickly, usually 2-6 days.. this time its the longest I've been sick.

We're all pulling for you, buddy. Keep thinking positive, healthy outcomes and soon you'll be feeling well again!

In the seven trips we've taken, none of us have ever gone, or come back sick.

Actually, I've come back ill twice, out of all the trips I've made. One time, I had vertigo, and the doctor I saw back at home, asked me about what I ate, what I did, etc. We suspect it was because of the multiple times I was on Rock N Roller Coaster (inverted upside down loops) and Mission Space (orange--the intense side). Really messed up my balance, etc. Had to take some medicine and I was o.k. after about a week. (Since then, I'll only ride RNR Coaster once during my entire trip, and Mission Space (tamer, green side only now).

The second time I was ill, was entirely different. Doctor thought I had some sort of wacko parasite perhaps from some water I drank from a water bubbler in the park, for example. I was nauseous, exhausted, etc. for weeks, and could only work about 5 hours a day for about a month (I'd come home and just crash on the sofa). Took a good 30 days before I was feeling well and strong again. Bizarre.

Never been to Ottawa, would love to. When I was a little kid, it was pronounced Ottawatta.

But you're right over the city being more beautiful than DC. Cherry Blossoms, probably, but that's only 1 month out of the year. I feel like D.C is not inviting due to the extreme amounts of security.

I haven't seen DC in cherry blossom season. My preference for Ottawa is mostly a matter of personal taste. I'm not a big fan of Neoclassical architecture. To be honest I don't like the US Capitol Building at all. I much prefer gothic and chateauesque architecture. The Centre Block of Parliament is one of my favorite buildings in the world.

Plus Ottawa is more laid-back and peaceful than DC. Hoping it stays that way despite the tragedy last October.

This is my favorite building in DC, about a 3 minute walk from where I am right now. This is an old photo - the stretch of Penn Ave. shown in the lower left is closed to traffic now.
