Alrighty guys, every few years I have to bring this up to settle a very petty argument.

We have this painting...

Someone in this house calls it the ugly painting. Some others in this house say they like it. Please give a verdict. You may be as brutally honest as you'd like.
It's one of those paintings that someone threw up over it and smeared the middle.

Most modern art is like that though. Tate Modern - horrible I thought it was but some people love it.

good choice.. It seems the paint was cursed!
The other hilarious thing is that years ago at my first job out of college, I rescued a plant from work. It was basically a twig when I took it.

That thing grew and grew. We have no idea what kind of plant it is. It's now about eight feet tall. We have to keep it in the ledge up by the big palladium window because that's the only spot it fits.

When the tree fell, it took out the palladium window. Fell directly there. I thought, whelp, there goes my plant.

Nope. Plant is fine. I'm convinced it's surviving the apocalypse.

Was anyone killed in that wreak? I know "abstract' which is something that has never impressed me. I found that a lot of professional famous painters went to abstract even though they really were talented artist, Picasso comes to mind. Yes, I know his was Cubism but both are silly, hard to look at and I don't want to have to figure out what I'm looking at.

To my taste it takes very little talent to do a painting like that but it is better than some I have seen. At least is has some elements that can be identified. I see a boat with a tattered flag, a crashing plane, a volcano, probably another smaller boat that is sinking and I can't say what the yellow rope like thing is. Probably a rope! If I had to evaluate the general theme of the picture. I would have to say Pearl Harbor.

Next guess is that the pen name E. Lee would be if he dropped the first name Robert, but that is the wrong time frame unless time travel was a thing back then. 🤔 ;)

That is one ugly painting. Than again I couldn't be too hard because my parents have a small replica of this in their material cabinet:

We all know there are people that consider that castle ugly on the forums. My parents got a replica of that by buying at a store at WDW when Walt Disney World was celebrating its year round 25th anniversary.
I think it was an engineering and imagination based marvel. I hope they stored that whole thing away and are waiting for the 75th anniversary when most of the Debbie Downers have passed on. Then they can try again to see if they can find people not quite so inflexible or appreciative

She laughed pretty hard all the way through. You asking if we paid money for it and not wanting to insult a child got a good laugh. @Figgy1 's son James commenting that he thought only people in the 60s were high enough to appreciate art like that got a good laugh too.
The most important question is, Have the responses emboldened her to toss or burn it

Just a suggestion: open a closet, put uggo picture inside, CLOSE DOOR.
It's a shame that so few houses have attics anymore. That is a great place to store, but keep, scary looking stuff. I remember the attic in my grandmothers house that my cousins and I used to occasionally explore. We were sure it was haunted up there, but there were so many treasures to be found. Years later I owned a house that had an attic and even though I was very much an adult by then I still had that same feeling when I went up there. When I sold the place I just opened the window and all the stuff that previous owner left behind hit the ground from three stories up. Well, not totally true I did manage to save a Wok Lid that I still use to this day.
