As my grandson says after every game, win or lose, this is their year. He's been saying that for at least 10 years now.
Yankees Mets, Dodgers Phillies have the highest payroll in the MLB. Like in English and Spanish football yes $$ can help buy championships. Juan Soto of the Mets is making $61M this year, almost the entire payroll of the Marlins team. He is NYC most eligible bachelor also. Some loyal fans still wish and hope for their teams but if the millionaire / billionaire owners don’t spend to get the players then it’s just wishful thinking.

My brother got to see Miami Sound Machine in the early 80s for a friend's birthday, but as a general rule, we didn't get to go to concerts. Most of them were in Denver, which was about a 6 hour drive, and my mom also didn't really approve of most of the music or fashion. There was no way she would have taken us to see any of the concerts and I'm not sure she'd have let me go with a friend, but I was never invited to one, so I'll never know. I went to my first concert in college at Cheyenne Frontier Days.

It was Charlie Daniels, Mark Chessnut, Rascal Flatts, and Terry Clark. Good concert....Charlie wore out his bow completely on Devil went down to Georgia.

I never went to concerts until I was in college either. When I was a kid it was a two hour drive to Minneapolis to see concerts but my parents never had the money to take us. They saved up to take us on vacations instead and even though I like concerts and it would have been fun to go I'm glad they put the extra money towards family vacations. The vacations lasted longer and the big vacations were to Walt Disney World, so much more fun than a 2 hour concert! Although I was very jealous when two girls in my grade went to the Janet Jackson concert, Micheal Jackson, and New Kids on the Block concerts. But they never got to go to WDW!

One of my college roommates was very much into going into concerts and I was able to go with her. When she passed away (we were in our mid-20's) my concert going stopped until I met my husband. He and I went to many Jimmy Buffett concerts and that was fun because there were hours of tailgating with friends and new to me friends (people also tailgating). Now Jimmy has passed too so that has ended and now I don't know if I like any musician that much pay the cost of a big concert. If a town festival has someone we might go or if I see someone perform at the Epcot festivals I'll watch.

My husband took me to a Kelly Clarkson concert when I was pregnant with E. That was great, other than the girl who opened for her and who really couldn't sing very well. I wonder how she got that gig, because Kelly Clarkson has some pipes! and I can't believe she would ask someone to open for her that couldn't stay on key and had zero stage presence. I was really uncomfortable because I think I was about 7 months by that time, and everything ached, but it was worth it.

But I'm more into musicals. I just wish they didn't translate them all into Dutch. I get why they do, but it just ruins it for me. I know all the songs in English and the Dutch translations are not great. But we've been to see The Three Muskateers, My Fair Lady, The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast here. In the US I saw Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theater in NYC, and Grease in Denver. There are so many I'd love to see though.

I didn’t. I saw a grand total of one concert in the 80’s. Chicago at the old Exhibition Stadium in 86, and then Neil Diamond at the old Maple Leaf Gardens in 93.

I clearly wasn’t much of a concert goer in my youth. 😂
I understand that due to my mom. Her background with concerts were different than mine because she and dad took my younger brother I two 2 Statler Brother concerts before I turned 11 years old.

I think my mom didn't go to concerts before college or before she move to Southeastern Wisconsin. I think her first concert might've been three dog night in Southeastern Wisconsin when she was in her early 20s.

My mom grew up in a city that had less than 6,000 people and another small city that had less than 6,500 people. The closest City near her growing up was Appleton and Green Bay. What happened to mom was multiple things starting with her dad died when she was 11 years old and her family had hard times and that means concerts were out of the question. Also when her mom remarried when my mom was a teen, her stepfather didn't approve of the music she listened to including Elvis. That means going to concerts under her mom and stepfather's roof was a no.

You could go to West End in London.

Interesting. Thanks for explaining.
They do this when the Orioles are in town for May 4. I have to go find my bobblehead. They dressed the players up as Jedi and have three giveaways. I will get two, I'll have to see about buying the third. Since May is a Sunday this year, it's an entire weekend. They also had characters there, played music (Darth Vader theme when announcing the lineup for the away team, lol) and have special food items. Gotta look them up; I think one was something about a Sarlaac pit. And the Orioles mascot was dressed up and fans were dressed up as characters too.

I also have MLB/Star Wars crossover stuff. I have a mug with Chewy on it that says "Let the Orioles win." I have a shirt that has Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewy with the Orioles logo. I'll wear that tomorrow. I may also grab my Grogu shoulder plush or my Ahsoka Nuimo. I have some other merch (jewelry) that I can wear.

First concert I ever went to was Boston here in Austin in 1978. I was 15. We had tickets up in the mezzanine and, IIRC, they were $5.
Saw Jimmy Buffett here on his Coconut Telegraph Tour, and so many other concerts over the years…The B-52’s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Hooters, The Outfield, Bruce Springsteen, George Strait, Alan Jackson and the list goes on.
We haven’t been to a concert in so long I can’t even remember the last one we saw.
But, I know if George Strait comes around again Carolyn will want to see him. She was in Vegas for one of his shows many years ago (before I knew her) and got to meet him backstage with a group of others. Even if the tickets are ridiculously expensive, I’ll hafta’ deal with it…!!!!! :hilarious:
