My maternal grandmother was allergic to cigarettes. She was a smoker and one day started breaking out in hives. That's why she and my grandfather quit smoking. I think they both quit in the late 60s/early 70s. Thankfully I think the only residual effect he has from it is mild asthma; he's 89. She also later developed asthma, though that was probably genetic. My great grandmother had asthma, she had it, my mom's sister has it, my mom has it, I have it, my mom has it, my brother has it, I think a few of my mom's cousins have it...
