Medical issues aside, often when cats and dogs get older, they can't handle the dry food (or have difficulty chewing it). Many older pets have wet food at that point, and that works well for them.
We gave Chloë special wet food for her kidney disease before she died. Wet food is better for older cats. It gets more water in their diet. She lived almost to 16.

Wow! Have not had Rouladen in years. I love pickles too. But my favorite German dish remains Souerbraten with gravy along with a side of Spatzel. Maybe some fresh
sauerkraut. :hungry:

Sauerbraten is so good. That and the polka band is my main reason for eating at the Biergarten in Germany at Epcot. I make a pretty decent sauerbraten, last time I made it though I didn't marinate it long enough and my gingersnaps for the gravy were stale. It was still good but not Biergarten good. A friend of ours studied in Germany as part of his seminary education and has done pastoral exchanges in Germany so he knows his sauerbraten, so I gave him a taste of mine and he said it was pretty spot on to what he had in Germany, and he would have been honest if it wasn't. Hmm, I think roast is on sale this week, maybe I'll pick up one and start the marinating for some sauerbraten next week!

Oh spatzel is good with it too, either plain with butter or with some melted Swiss cheese and caramelized onions. I have made my own spatzel but it was a pain, so much easier to buy it.

I love spatzel, but I don't think I've ever had Sauerbraten.

Kapono had her teeth cleaned a couple weeks ago and had a few teeth removed. Since her teeth and gums were sensitive for a few days I fed her canned food, then I moved on to adding water to her dry food for about a week. Then I tried to give her just dry food and she won't eat it, she now will only eat her food after it has soaked in water. Either she now likes it that way or it it easier for her to eat. Or maybe both. She still eats her dry treats and salmon jerky just fine.

Well I hope for pictures next week!!! It has been too long since I had sauerbraten. Can’t believe I didn’t think of caramelized onion last night. I can make both spatzel and dumplings but it is so tedious. What type of meat, roast do you use?

Now go get that Toast. I have to live vicariously :hungry:

We only do dry. I cannot stand the smell of the wet food, and it looks gross.
It is...the Blue Buffalo ones that I buy aren't that bad, though.

We initially started doing it when Belle was having digestive issues. We added pumpkin in it to give her more fiber. Thankfully we don't need to do that anymore, but she's spoiled now. That's the only time we feed the cats together, so it's their binding opportunity. Also, if you don't give it to them, they will let you know about it.

I use whatever beef roast is the cheapest at the time. When I do make it I'll post some pictures.
