My ds has the Lego version of the original.
The VW dealership where I got my last two vehicles has a showroom filled with vintage VW's. All types of the original ones both bugs, and camping, utility and buses. The new cars all have to weather the storm, but, the oldies stay sheltered, not unlike myself.

This is an old picture of the showroom. There are many more in there now and no new ones at all in the showroom. It's almost like a mini-VW museum.

Today’s baseball story. We only have 9 players, best player is out of the country during the entire tourney. 1 and out tournament.

Game this morning at 7:30 am. Freezing. Off and on rain.

T gets to his first at bat- strikes out. 2 foul ball and a swinging strike. I’m ok with that, he Looks mortified.

Then they go to the field, Coach is trying to keep T’s pitch-count low so he can use him again tomorrow if we win., so he starts at 1st.
Batter hits to 3rd. 3rd baseman makes a high throw to T, T jumps up and make a beautiful catch, gets batter out. Starts to walk towards the pitcher and the 2nd basemen runs to 3rd (this is not normal, has never happened before), T looks and quickly throws to 3rd, 3rd baseman misses and runner now gets to home and score.
The coach was FURIOUS.
Ran out on the field and yelled at all of them “You have to CALL TIME!!”
Tristan is visibly shaken and feels horrible.

Dirty play by the other team’s coach, but a legal play nonetheless.
We’re down 1-0 on a stupid play.

Long story a little shorter, they got 2 more runs the next inning. Now we’re down 3-0.

We’re at bat again, our bases loaded, T gets up to bat... cracks a ball into the outfield! 3 runs in, T is sliding into home, the catcher made an incredible catch, T gets tagged just as he’s about to complete a home run (and first ever grand slam).
Walks off in tears and starts sobbing by the time he gets to the dugout.

T’s coach was AMAZING about it. He said “T, you just got THREE RBIs. You tied the game!! Do NOT be upset about getting out.”

He’s crying, but wiping his eyes trying to cheer up, all of the kids are giving him high fives and chest bumps. A few more batters go, no more runs, inning over.

Tie game.

Now Tristan goes in as pitcher. Strikes 3 consecutive batters out!!! His spirits are up.

We get to bat, 2 out 2 on base. T’s up. Hits a double and gets two more RBIs!!!
Next kid strikes out.

Final inning- T strikes first batter out. Walks 2. 3rd gets a hit. Bases loaded score 5-3. 1 out.
Everyone is nervous. I’m worried that he’s nervous too. Throws two balls, bad pitches. Two strikes, another ball.. and then a 3rd strike!!
1 more out to go but their bases are loaded and T looks like he’s inside his own head. His coach tells him to step off the mound and take a breath.
Batter up. 1st pitch- strike. 2nd pitch-strike. 3rd pitch- ball. 4th pitch - STRIKE!!!!

We won!!!!! The kids all jumped all over T!! Oh my goodness my heart was so full.
Those kids came back with a vengeance, and Tristan had different points of heartbreak and raging success within those innings.

On to the next game tomorrow!! T’s school won their game too.. we’re playing them tomorrow.lol.

All I know is, I couldn’t be more thankful for this team and these coaches for taking us in.
We’re having so much fun!! T is shy if he doesn’t know you, painfully shy. These kids are all classmates and have known each other for 3-4 years. I was nervous that he might be an outcast on the team.. I was so wrong. They have completely treated him as one of their own, getting him out of his shell, supporting him like they’ve known him for years. I could not be happier. ❤❤

Just curious -- (aside off "everything is bigger in Texas" ;) ), what's the purpose of such a high suspended truck like that? Is it for off-roading use on rugged terrain for example?

Hahaaa...!!!
I really have no clue, in this case. The thing was pretty pristine-looking (unlike the pics of some of my relatives trucks that I posted from the reunion last weekend - they use theirs for hauling all kinds of things, like wood, hay, etc., and are in pastures and on dirt roads a lot), with not a spec of dirt on it that I noticed. It did have a hitch on it, so I assume he has a boat or a camping trailer (or both) or something.

There is a guy that lives in the more affluent neighborhood across the road that I cut through to my country back road that has a racing truck.
It’s always on a flatbed trailer with a bunch of gear, attached to a large motor home with the same black and bright green paint scheme as the truck.
It looks similar to the one below, but, I believe there’s more green...?! 🤔:)

It's so great that he's accepted as one of their own. So what do you do next year? Will he play for his school again, or stay with this team? Will he be ok playing against them if he goes back to his school team?

If ya’ don’t mind me askin’, how big and how much...?!
If ya’ do mind, and don’t answer, I completely understand...just really curious.....
Most likely it would have covered the top of my arm (almost to the elbow) with a lot of color. A small tattoo done well can easily put you up to $200, but it also depends on that artist. So, the one on my arm would have been at least $500 or so.

My landlords grandson truck has the ability to raise. He and his brother go into the deep woods to camp and hunt. He said one the Roof is high if the Bear starts to win. When they camp the vehicle is too high for critters to break into as Bears enjoy breaking into cars as much as they do cabins. He also said deep woods roads are not really maintained. Dirt, so if you’re straddling an unexpect log or stump the raised truck clears it.

They are fun to ride in. He brought home a mattress for my DD in it.

Good grief...!!!
Texas businesses being built up over the years into iconic companies and then being sold to out-of-state companies/investors...

As of 2006, Schlotzsky’s (an Austin original) has been owned by Focus Brands, hq’d in Atlanta, GA.
As of 2017, Whole Foods (another Austin original) is now owned by Amazon, hq’d in Seattle, WA.
Thursday both the New Braunfels (the original, and family opened and owned since 1979) and Galveston, TX Schlitterbahn, award-winning, water parks were sold to Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, hq’d in Sandusky, OH.
And, then, yesterday it was announced that the majority shares of Whataburger (family owned since the first location opened in Corpus Christi, TX in 1950) are now owned by BDT Capital Partners, hq’d in Chicago, IL.
Although, it has also been announced that the headquarters will remain in San Antonio, TX, and the family will remain as minority shareholders, with the President and CEO, and the family member Board Chairman keeping their seats on the BOD.
J. J. Watt, from the Houston Texans football team, posted on Twitter that we (Texas citizens) should all chip in to buy Whataburger back, and he isn’t even from Texas...!!!!!!! :joyfull::hilarious:;):)

That’s a lot of money, but, I’m sure for something really well-done and large, with a lot of color, that might even require more than one sitting, that makes sense. I really don’t know much about the industry, though.
Again, thanks for the reply...!!! :)

Which reminds me... Has anyone seen the new VW bus. If you look in the dictionary under UGLY, there is a picture of it there. They are trying to hard to try and retro to us aging boomers. I left that era a long time ago.

It's hard to tell if it's coming or going!

I’d rather have this one...!!! ;):)
