All 3 a “fireplace family suite”

Night 1- 1am, woke up to a horrible weird smell. Grabbed T and carried him to the hallway.. went back in, turned off heater unit, called front desk, went back out to the hallway.

Worker arrives a few minutes later “we’re waiting on maintenance, but I can check it out.”

Goes in, comes back out and says that he definitely smells it, not sure what “it” is. Said he opened the balcony door to air out the room.
Super nice man, asked if I wanted a new room..or if I wanted to wait for maintenance who should be arriving in a few minutes. I told him I’d wait. Wasn’t sure if I was over reacting, maybe it could be that the heat hadn’t been turned on this year.. fireplace had been off for 30 minutes or so.. I went to sleep @ 12, timer had 30ish mins remaining.

Maintenance arrives, goes in, walks out “There’s no smell in that room.”
“Really? I woke up and it was so strong.”
Hotel clerk chimes in- “I smelled it too.”
Maintenance guy “There’s nothing wrong with that room. Fireplace is turned off, heat/ac unit is fine.”

Me “You’re sure, it’s completely safe?”

“Yes.”

“Ok, we’ll go back in. I’ll leave the balcony door cracked open.”

Go in with T, turn on heat, leave the door cracked. T falls promptly asleep. I went back to sleep. It’s 2am.

2:45am - T wakes me up. “Mom, do you smell that?” I do, immediately.

T went out in the hallway, I grabbed shoes and went to the front desk.

We got moved to a room across the hall. Move everything, worker helped us. We got to sleep. Almost 4am.

Phone rings at 7am- I answer- “Hi, this is the front desk, I’m so sorry but we accidentally put you in a room that was already booked for the night. Guests are arriving at 9am. They’re part of a block of rooms. I’ll find you another room immediately.”

Ugh!! I wake T up, grab our stuff and head to front desk again. They can’t find a room. Offered to let me leave my stuff on a cart while we went to breakfast.

Entered our new room 4 hours later.
Oh wow! I think they should comp you a night.

Thanks. They were very nice about it.. I’m sure we would have been safe.. but you just never know.. the smell was different than anything I’ve smelled before, and it was just so strong. Luckily there was plenty to do in the morning while we were homeless!.. and I hadn’t even unpacked in that room.

I do think the guest services man was embarrassed by the maintenance guy. He looked at me and said “Don’t worry, I smelled it too. You’re not imagining things.” He was really great talking to T about Star Wars stuff while I was packing.

I didn’t stick around for the 2nd time the maintenance guy arrived, so I have no idea if he did smell that time and figure out what it was.

Your motherly instinctive values kicked in. Odd smells are never a plus. Glad they were mostly kind and respectful to your concerns.

Blurg...and in today's headline news, now cruise ships too  This is the cruise line my son did his last cruise with for 10 days. He forwarded this to me and said back to Disney cruises.

A couple from Florida have spoken of their shock after they found a hidden camera pointed at their bed on a cruise ship operated by Carnival Cruise Line. Worse Carnival investigated themselves and said no not a camera. Then yes a camera but not connected despite couple video taping security uninstalling it. FBI now has the device. Problem being ship line is governed by Maritime law and not by US Law. The interview is on Inside Addition.

Hu, if the ship had docked in the USA they might have full jurisdiction. Just like they DO enter the ship to confiscate and detain drug dealers.

They should have informed the FBI first about the camera. Cruise Lines are sneaky like that and try to hide facts.
DCL isnt that clean either. They tried to scrub and hide at all costs the child abuse cases that happened (and I mean.. the dirty type of abuse).

Nope. Happened at sea unlike at dock. Maritime law kicks in. The drawback of cheap vacations. Choices we make for our families Note the flag the ship flies.
