Oh AMEN!! It looks like DS might have Autism after all. They tested him in...Feb? for Autism, ADHD, Anxiety, and they tested his IQ. They said that while he has "streaks" of all those disorders, he isn't really on the spectrum, and that his meltdowns are caused by a huge difference between the "verbal" and "performance" sides of IQ. His verbal (cognitive) IQ puts him at gifted, but his performance IQ is below average, so he gets frustrated when he can't perform a task. So we've had him in a sort of Therapy now for 4 weeks and the therapist told me today that she's having 2nd thoughts, now that she knows him and has spent time with him. She thinks he is showing a LOT of behavior consistent with Autism...not being able to handle change, not having insight into his own behavior or role in a situation, etc. So I don't know where we go from here, but as a parent, I have to be the one to make sure he gets what he needs. He didn't ask me to bring him into this world, and however much work and frustration it can be, it's still my job to take care of him and meet his needs. Like you said, why have kids if you aren't going to raise them??
I went through a lot of the same things with my older ds. To me it didn't matter what the diagnosis was as long as he got the help he needed but finally getting the right one opened more doors and his school made the adjustments he needed finally. if you ever need to vent please do so and you can always pm me. Prayers and pixie dust xoxo

I'd settle for a grocery store. We had a pharmacy that sold some staple things but it closed down when he went to jail for medicare fraud. :cyclops: An 125 year old building that is basically a 2 flat, lived upstairs and pharmacy on ground level. Front porch with rockers back then. How I wound up here is beyond me. I grew up in a town of 35 thousand people and after college the town my condo was in had 45 thousand. But the pharmacy is gone but we still have our pig farm up the road. Nothing like taking your pup to the vet and he is in the waiting room with a mini goat waiting to have his hoofs trimmed up.

We are not far from all the chains when we want anything. Our town, well it never evolved, our town leaders want no part of any of that. Most families are generations here. Us since '85 and we are still considered 'outsiders.'
Sympathy like. I like living a bit off the beaten path but sometimes it a PITA. That's why once a week I go out with a list, I don't want to get caught running out of anything that's over in "town"

I'm taking this morning off!!!!!! I got called and asked if I could work yesterday so by the time I got home it was time to get my dh out:mad::mad::mad::mad: Nothing like getting laundry done, packing and labeling food for the boys and coming home to a mess. You'd think the least they could do would be putting their dishes in the sing:rolleyes::brb::cautious::mad::mad::mad::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Yeah, if your son won't eat certain foods it is probably best to go with buffets where there is a variety. The dinner show had a fixed menu but perhaps they might offer something else for food allergies. I don't remember there being a Pizza Hut in the Disney Village, but a Vapianos (some sort of Italian chain opened recently). There is a McDonald's and an Earl of Sandwich (we at the Earl and it was just like the one in WDW, which we find yummy). I think there is a Rainforest Cafe too. Have fun and I hope you get your flight to Dublin okay.
Thanks! Yeah, I didn't remember seeing a Pizza Hut listed, but DD's friend went last summer and I asked her mom where they ate because I was worried about food and was trying to find out what was good and she said "There's always the pizza hut in Disney Village." But then, I've discovered that most people don't research in advance, and Dutch people in particular seem to be prone to calling everything by a brand name, even if it's not that brand...like...they call diapers "Pampers" even if they are an off brand. And they call baby seats for the car "Maxi Cosi" because that's the most popular brand. So it's possible that to this woman, any pizza place is a Pizza Hut. I'll take another look at the dinner show....we can always take DS to McDonalds if he won't eat the food at the show.

I agree completely...I don't care about the diagnosis...he is and will always be him. He's my son. BUT, sometimes to get the right help, you have to have the diagnosis. The therapist did mention the possibility of a special school, IF he has a diagnosis. I guess I will hear more at next week's session. I may take you up on that venting. I am sooooo tired. I lay awake half the night last night thinking of possible solutions, ways to help him....is a new school going to solve anything, can we get him into a special school, what do we do in the meantime...it's all just floating around my head at 2:00 am, which I have to say is not my best thinking time! Really looking forward to a nice long weekend in Dublin where I don't have to think about bullies and coping strategies.

There is nothing to like about snow in September, it's way too early to get out my sling shot:oops::angelic:
You know, I wouldn't mind it if it didn't come with the cold and it didn't turn to slush in the streets/bike paths. Snow LOOKS pretty....like a crystal, sparkly fantasy world...until it melts in your shoes, etc. I can't handle heat very well, so Summer is pretty miserable for me, but I could do without the extreme cold.

First, RELAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and enjoy your mini holiday! as for the rest been there done that and even have the T-shirt(have quite a few from fundraisers) I know relaxing during this stressful is next to impossible but you do yourself and your ds no favors by being worn out. You should maybe look into yoga for relaxation(Yoga with Adrienne is good and free on youtube).
Maybe being out of a regular classroom is what he needs, I don't know how it works over there but getting my son into the proper setting has helped more than you can know. Vent away Prayers and pixie dust

I don't have a "job" per se, I'm just a fill in for a few people I know that when they get caught short at their companies. So in short I can go months with nothing but this Friday is the one that will tire me out just a bit. I'm covering fitness classes at a gym. One of the classes is a HIIT class where I get to yell at spoiled 20 somethings, hey if they can't keep up with me they deserve to get yelled at:D
