NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It Isn't![]()
I hope you get it back soon!! Today maybe?![]()
Double congrats!Actually, Today!! Hubs is going to get the car this morning, and return the loaner car they gave him from the repair shop. Even though the bill is around $800, my (usually useless) extended protection contract that I purchased some years ago from Ford (when we first bought the used car--by the way, it's a Chevy, but the contract was from Ford--go figure . . .), is actually paying for some of this repair.
So hubs said it will be around $400 that we'll end up paying out of pocket. That's not nearly as bad as I had anticipated when the car first went into the shop.
Okay, I just had the strangest and terrifying experience and now my heart rate has come down a little. Kapono and I were sitting on the porch and I was on my computer working on my trip report here and editing my personal trip journal when I saw what looked like a bird hit the outside of the screen, then fall. No big deal right, birds hit windows....then it popped up and attached itself to the screen and I thought that was strange so I looked up and it was a bat attached to the outside of the screen!! A bat! During the day!
(Disclaimer I really hate bats, they freak me out, I can't even look at pictures of them and at Animal Kingdom during the Maharajah Jungle trek I literally run through the building that has them with my head down. And I don't run ever, but I want to see the tigers there.)
So I start flipping out and start hyperventilating. And grab the flyswatter to smack the screen to get it to move, but before I can smack it flies off. It flew off towards our neighbors tree across the street. But not before I see its weird body splayed out, and now I'm super freaked out. It's not good to see them during the day right?! I texted hubby, who is down in Illinois to do a friends wedding, and he said it is just a freak thing. I know he is probably right but I'm still freaked out.
Sorry to rant, and thanks for letting me.![]()
I guess it is really poisonous to animals, especially dogs. So I make sure I don't buy gum or candy with that in it.
Poor puppy needs to be fed betterNever knew about this. I'll definitely keep Jack away from gum (neither hubs nor I buy gum anyway), but when Jack's outside--if there is food to be had on the ground somewhere--he's a land shark!!!![]()
So, a bit of a crazy start for oldest DD and SonIL on their 2-week trip to Europe...
They had a very bumpy flight from Houston (DWifey took a vacation day for today and her and youngest DD drove them to Houston yesterday evening to fly out of there this morning - it was $1,000 less, and they decided 2 round trips to drop 'em off and pick 'em for only $60 of gas was worth it) to Philly on American. Then, as the crew of their British Airways flight from Philly to Munich was doing their preflight check, they ran across a mechanical issue. All 400 passengers and crew had to deplane and wait for them to get another plane.
They got one that landed (incoming from Europe) about the same time they were supposed to take off, that was supposed to be on the ground overnight. All 400 passengers and crew then had to re-board that b u g g e r.
Then, when they finally got out to the taxiway, they had to wait out a severe thunderstorm before they could take off.
Their flight was originally supposed to leave at 6:20p EDT. It ended up leaving at 8:49p EDT.
Definitely missing their connecting flight to Cologne, but, they'll catch one tomorrow afternoon.
Planned speed and altitude for the meat of the flight was 544 mph at 39,000 ft. They are currently doing 625 mph at 39,000 ft.
We have flight tracker apps open on our phones.![]()

I jest. I did use the oven the other day to properly cure a wing mirror cowl i had just sprayed. Can't understand why Mrs Ferret got so upsetNO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![]()
Exactly! I was lucky to have a set of grandparents who could both cook who lived within walking distance so I ate there whenever I could until I could fend for myself. My parents were both very proud when I made Thanksgiving dinner all by myself at 11. Side note I've still got you beat for bad, 2 moms who think the oven is for storage![]()
It used to be... it isn't so much anymore. Road trips can still be fun, at least for me, but, traffic is heavier and delays do happen. The plus is that you don't usually have to make a connection on a road trip. Worst case is you will be later then you planned.Although they (whoever "they" are--does anyone know who "they" are, by the way?) say, that "travel is one of the best experiences in life" -- it can also be one of the most annoying ones! It can be exhausting dealing with all the drama of equipment issues, delays, etc.
I really hope that the rest of the trip goes well, and they have a wonderful time. I'm sure they will.![]()
Chocolate is supposed to be poisonous to dogs, too. When I was in like...6th grade, we were selling "Worlds Finest Chocolate" as a fund raiser for something. They had these Mint Meltaways and I had ordered a box. When we got it, I opened it and ate 2 pieces...that box was SOOOO hard to open. I put it up on the table and we went somewhere. We came back, the box was lying open on the floor, empty. Also missing was a package of antacids my brother had been prescribed for some illness or the other. Well...the little packet was there, but had been chewed open. And there was our dog looking guilty and obviously not feeling well. He had somehow gotten up onto the table, gotten the box open, and eaten the entire box of chocolates. And taken the antacids my brother had left on an end table by the couch. He was fine, but he didn't feel well for a day or two.

Urgghh. I'm going to need a new computer soon. My computer will be 7 in November.
Do I want to fork over money for another Mac or go with Windows. I don't know if Toshiba is still selling laptops but don't get one. That was my last PC.
My mom was an excellent cook, but she never let us into the kitchen when she was cooking and certainly didn't teach us how.
Luckily, my husband is an amazing cook so we eat pretty well around here when he's not on business trips.
When I was a kid we had a dog that broke into the Halloween candy my mom had stashed and ate a whole bag of Reeses peanut butter cups. It was so strange, every little package was opened carefully and totally cleaned out. It was done so cleanly, no tears or rips, we almost doubted the dog had done it. My mom called the vet because of the chocolate is poisonous and the vet told her that even though the dog ate the entire back, it usually takes a lot more chocolate to affect the dog, a certain percentage over the body weight or something. But he did say just like people everyone is different.
But with that xylitol stuff, after hearing how that dog suffered from it and how quickly it can affect all dogs I get really scared about that. Plus if it could be that lethal for a dog what could it do to me? That was the first step I had away from artificial sweeteners.
This is a relatively new discovery. When I was growing up, everyone had a dog. Dogs generate from a more primitive animal that instinctively eat what they can get and not what will harm them. Chocolate was never considered a problem to my knowledge. It didn't come to my attention until recently when my daughter rescued a pit bull and told me about it. However, it was never a situation of killing the animal, as in dead, but, that it might upset their system, which, btw, should be anything but sensitive, and cause diarrhea. A problem far more significant for a house bound animal. Poison is a bit overkill to me, upsetting may be more accurate, but, that is just what I know about it. I'm not denying anything, just questioning why all of a sudden this is such a problem. Bear in mind that there are absolutely no limits to what I don't know about everything.I wouldn't have known about it either except that the I knew the people who had their dog die, it was also on the news around here. The owners wanted people to be aware so it didn't happen to other dogs.
Kapono isn't much or scrounging for food scraps on the ground or eating unopened packages of food. We have left candy bars and other things on tables where she could get things and she doesn't bother. Or one time Brad left some crackers in a bowl and they were all still there at the end of the day and she had been home alone. Our old dog Henry was the opposite, he would go into bags and eat anything. There were a couple times we thought we had the bread bag pushed far enough on the counter and he would still get it (and he was a little schnauzer). One time we even left a loaf of bread in the middle of the kitchen table but left a chair slightly pushed out and he still got it!
