The housing I am living in is one of the housing dorms only for Freshman so the only students that should be in that area are the Freshman moving, their family members, and the Resident Assistants to help. I am going with my parents and we are meeting my roommate and her parents. We will move in and then all go out to lunch together before coming back and having the parents say goodbye.

That was kinda rough for my DD and me. We're kinda joined at the hip. My DS we both did pretty well. I had a harder time dropping him off at the Disney College Program. Disney had a very good step by step for indoctrination. After they went through channels, they loaded them up on coach buses and off to casting. It was weird for parents to wave good bye to their waving spawn from a bus taking them away. Didn't see him again for about 4 months. Me, I regrouped quickly, called a taxi, went back to the French Quarter, changed and went off to the parks for a few day. The Mouse cures all. :inlove:

I am from Massachusetts so we get hit hard a lot with snow most Winters. I imagine MinnieM123 is your spouse or significant other?

 Um, that would be a big NO. Not sure where you got that from; you're new here and you don't know us.

Oh my goodness that gave me the biggest laugh, Walt came to see what my problem was. :joyfull:

@LuvDatMouse most of us know each other very well here, some for many many years. At times we refer to each other as family even though we are scattered around the States, Canada, Mexico and Europe etc.

My family hails from Northern IL @MinnieM123 hails more towards your region of the country and has the best Pup ever, Jack. You will learn to love to hear Jack stories.

Alright arm chair travelers, buckle up! Last night, we went to a little outdoor music venue in the North Shore (of Lake Michigan) area of Chicagoland. I haven't been in many years, but the Chicago Symphony Orchestra had "Rhapsody in Blue" and "Selections from West Side Story" on the program. And, my DS and his friend were meeting up with some other friends.

First off, what a bargain! DD was free (kids under 15), DS was free (people with Student ID), and an adult lawn ticket $10. We also paid $10 to park, because we didn't feel like trying to figure out the off site parking, and lugging all of our picnic stuff on and off a bus. So, $30 for 5 people. Less than a movie for beautiful live music. The lawn is where it is at, at Ravinia. Bring in your own picnic. Some people go all out with tables, table cloth, silver candlesticks, china and crystal. Others, just pick up subs, or such. Jersey Mike's did a fine job preparing our sandwiches, plus a lovely sharp cheddar, crackers, and raspberry bellavitano. (Great cheese for the cheese lovers).

DD's friends had come earlier to secure a prime spot under the trees, and picnicing commenced. View attachment 154585

Cookies and chips were also shared. While many enjoy a fine bottle of wine, or a nice beer, DH and I decided it was for the best if we didn't imbibe this evening, as we needed to drive back (and we were hanging out with a bunch of teens.)

The music was wonderful, although I wish they left off "Symphonic Dances". The breeze in the evening air was magnificent. Just a real gem in the area.

That sounds like a great evening! Especially when you mentioned Rhapsody in Blue, I love Gershwin so that would have been right up my alley. I remember when we watched the late 80's-90's versions of Illuminations and Rhapsody in Blue came on to highlight the American pavilion, it was so exciting to me and gave me goosebumps. I was just a kid, but I was a strange one and enjoyed listening the classical and jazz music (still do).

I really hate grocery shopping. Decades of shopping for family became so old. That put it in cart, take out-put on belt, put back in cart, take out of cart put in truck, take out of truck and haul in, unpack and put away. Ahhhhhhhhhhh. Yeah 1st world problems but it doesn't change my opinion of the chore. :joyfull:

At some point I am going to try Amazon Prime Pantry, online grocery delivery for $5.99 for 40 pound box. I seriously could just keep adding to my online order and push the button. Delivered to my door, all I'd have to do is put away. I would not hate grocery shopping so much if all I had to do was pick up bread, eggs etc., meat, veggies and fruit. The kinda stuff you want to pick out yourself for freshness and expiration dates.

My eyes cry with onion too. My kids have giggled when they have walked into the kitchen and saw me with their swim goggles on while chopping large volumes of onion. This week I pulled an @Songbird76 while chopping onion, right to the bone of my left index finger at the joint. My DD like hers was home and well trained in First Aid and seeing far worse at the WaterPark she put me back together again.

The problem with those delivery services is not being able to pick out the produce and meat myself. However if I lived in a more metropolitan area I might be tempted to not pick those out and let others do it. Although when I went shopping today I was able (or suckered into) buying some stuff that might be fun to eat but it wasn't on my list. Like I saw in the freezer section Oreo churros, and a new sauces to make so Thai chicken and a Korean BBQ mix, I wouldn't have purchased that probably from an online grocer. Maybe what would be better for my food bill though.

Too bad about your finger, hopefully it is feeling better and that it wasn't worse.

What @Gabe1 said; a lot of us just have known each other for a long time. I can name several members who joined after I did and who I met shortly after they joined. MinnieM123's love of the cold weather is a standing joke among the sane

(Just kiddin' Minnie)

Thank You so much. I will be able to pop back home pretty much whenever I want because I live in Massachusetts so that is a good thing. I would have actually commuted, but my scholarship included housing so why not take it and experience the whole college living.

That is fantastic that your DD is doing well now. I love hearing success stories like that. My Grandpop has improved so much since his stroke. I love seeing the benefits of Speech Therapy.

Welcome to the boards! Graduation trips are pretty awesome, I had one for high school and college to Disney World. When I got my master's I decided Hawaii would be my reward for that. I went to a college that was close to home for the first year and a half, so I lived at home. It saved me a lot of money, but I really missed the dorm experience. When I transferred schools I lived in the dorms, but I wish I had just been in the dorms to begin with. There is a college about a 15 minute drive from where I teach and I encourage my students that go there to do the dorms if they can swing it financially as I think it is an important part of the college experience. So I'm glad you are going that route too, especially if your scholarship covers it.

Cirque's du soleil "Toruk" (Avatar) live show is getting some real bad reviews @BuddyThomas Critics say it is pretty but impossible to follow not being spoken in a language understood and a narrator that jumped in and out, also missing the normal Cirque's theatrics. Disappointing to hear. Saying the sets are awesome but too many projections and it was designed to be interactive with a smartphone so patrons were playing with their phones throughout the show. Wonder what they were thinking? Will you see it?

You know, just when I thought I could not possibly hear about more ludicrous WDW-related news this week, I read your account above about Toruk. The part that really hit me was the mention of a C. du S. show that must now be interactive . . . :jawdrop: :banghead:

I've seen three C. du S. shows (2 in Vegas years ago, and La Nouba at Disney's Westside). All were incredibly high-energy, visual extravaganzas. So I just can't wrap my head around this latest show (which sounds overly busy to begin with) and throwing in interactive phone stuff, which would take the focus away from the show's very talented cast and special effects. Interactive -- overkill??

5 out of 6 of us got our magic bands today. Mine will be coming in another box obviously. 3 out of the 6 of us will have purple bands. I love the shade of purple. It's not that pale lilac color of my youth. My mom painted out bedroom that color, when I would have preferred a pretty shade of blue. The luggage tags are also very nice. Color coded, and with cool Disney characters on them. For some reason Disney put two rooms on one reservation, but they would not put three rooms on one reservation.

I got a purple for my last trip too, so did hubby as it is his favorite color. Did you do anything fun to personalize it with the name on the inside?

Oh, I imagine both of my parents will shed some tears once they get back to the car and head back home. I know I will be sad as well and way nervous as it is the first time on my own.
