So, because my current employment is being eliminated as of July 1 (I start a new job on July 11), I figured that it is a good time to go get a physical. My previous doctor retired a few years back and I've been a bit lazy about finding someone new. But I looked online on my health insurance's providers and basically picked someone out of the hat. My exam was today at 4PM. I was there for two hours!!!

This was the physical to end all physicals. I was poked and prodded, and given tests that I didn't even know existed. This was all new to me. In the past, when I went to a physical, my doctor would just take my blood pressure and then ask me some questions, and that was it.

Today, I got this:

Blood pressure test - on each arm. It was high, and I am now prescribed on a blood pressure pill. Hurray. I am officially old.

The breathe in breathe out thing with the stethoscope.

Then I was told to pull down my pants and lay down on the table and face the wall. What the?!?!?!! The next thing you know, I was violated in a way that cannot be described on a family message board. The unexpected prostate exam was not fun.

Then, the doctor said he was going to send someone in to continue the tests, including a blood draw.

WHAT????? I am so needle-phobic that I usually need a few days to work up to a blood test. Plus, I had just been violated up my freaking ***. How much can one person take???

I told him that I didn't think blood was a good idea, but he said they are very gentle in his office and left and slammed the door. What the -------??!?

So I sat there sweating for a good ten minutes and then this guy comes in with a rolling tray with all this stuff on it. He was very friendly and said that first they were going to do an EKG.

Strapped all these things all over me and did that. No problem.

Then, he did a blow into a tube test to test my lung capacity or something. I guess as the town drunk, I should be familiar with blow into a tube test, but since I do not drive, not so much. But I blew into the tube and was told I passed that one with flying colors.

Then, he said he was going to do a blood draw.

I repeated that I really needed a few days to work up to it, and didn't know this was going to happen today, but there was no talking my way out of it, and minutes later, there was the rubber tube around my arm, and the needle in my vein, and the scream right at the back of my throat. I had asked him how long it would take and he said 20 seconds. It was the longest 20 seconds of my year. Needles and me do not get along. I would make a terrible heroin addict.

So that's enough, right? Wrong!

Next, I had to get an echocardiogram, because apparently an EKG was not enough.

And finally, I don't even know what this test is called but six of what looked like blood pressure bands were placed on my legs and arms and then they did a circulation test to make sure my blood is circulating properly. (It is - the assistant showed me the results).

And that's about it.

Oh wait - I forgot - I had to pee in a cup as well.

That is the craziest physical I have ever had in my entire life. This doctor is detailed, let me tell you. And I guess that's a good thing.

Now of course I am terrified to go for my results in a month. With my luck, I am going to have 17 types of cancer, a failing heart, and it goes without saying that I am going to be told "Mr. Thomas, I'm sorry but we simply could not find your liver." I'll have to tell him that it fell out and got flushed down a toilet at the last drink around the world.

I feel just fine, so I guess its good to find out if anything wonky is going on, but after all those tests, I'm like - AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Sorry. Just needed to vent. Luckily, this is right next to my apartment, so I think I was entitled to a treat today, and I had one, ;)

Thanks for sharing that ordeal. We are scheduled to have a head to toe physical in about 2 month's. Getting old is no fun. Doctor's just love to poke and prod. Your choice of treats looks great. Hope you find that your tests are good results.

Wow. Sympathy like.
Except for our WDW trip this past Feb. (we flew Delta with no issues whatsoever), we have only ever flown Southwest there since our first family trip in '01. Again, no issues with comfort or anything. When we flew out to DLR in '10 on Frontier, no problems either.
Sounds like certain airlines are now really turning their fleets into airborn cattle cars.
United sure has. Their hub is Denver and they have the cheapest flights to Orlando. So we take them, I'm looking for deals on another airline . Most only have two flights a day from Denver to Orlando. United has flights all day long to Orlando. Pretty much the only game in town.

Thanks, but, actually, it's no big deal at all for my family, Bet's. Remember, my full time job is as a designer for a local architectural firm, where I make a very nice living. I just do the clothing store closer shifts to help the owner out (I used to work there full time a few years ago) when he needs it. He gets the help, and I get a little extra gas and beer money. ;)
He's actually not even that upset. This guy is a smart cookie with business savy...he's not goin' down. He's actually lookin' forward to a break from owning 2 stores for a bit so he can take a little time to figure out his next move. :)
I'm glad to hear that it's closing is not impacting your family. Nice of you to help the owner out.

I was thinking the same thing! How in the world is it better to let him pee in the boat than in the water. How does "no, don't let him pee in the water" mean "let him go right here"? And didn't the mother say something? If she thought it was bad to let him pee in the water, why didn't she have a problem with it in the boat where people will be sitting the whole day? SO gross!!
I have no idea what made them do that. A strange potty training incident to me. But, who knows why someone would do that. Just people doing stupid things. I can only imagine, what CM's encounter on a daily basis. The perils of working with the public.

Hubby found the "lost" pictures. Here goes!IMG_3662.JPG

Mongolian Beef at Sunshine season's. Kids portion. Hubby had the same thing, only the adult version. Very yummy. @figmentfan423....you can just get the rice, if you are interested. I would bring along a bag of nuts to increase the protein.

We took more pictures today, and I'll post a little later. I don't want to violate the 10 picture rules.

Sympathy like. Red wine and beets are supposed to be good for lowering blood pressure or so I've heard. I can't believe he prescribed pills so quickly because when my dh's pressure and cholestorol started to go up he was put on a diet before trying pills. BTW the diet worked and he doesn't need medication
Same thing I was thinking @BuddyThomas . Especially since you were seeing a new doc, I am surprised they didn't tell you to retake it at the local drugstore when you had a chance, or come back in a month to try again. I also wonder, was this before or after they mentioned needles?

By the way, when they talk about red wine helping to lower blood pressure I think they are talking about 1 or 2 6 oz. glasses. Not bottles.;)

You are right about having a smoking area at the parks. Then people can avoid them if they need to. I'm pretty upset that kids start to smoke so young. My Dad died from a medical mistake during removal of one lung, due to lung cancer. I keep thinking that if we can legislate certain drugs, we should be able to do so with cigarettes. Again, just my opinion, resulting from Dad's death.
The only problem I have had with smoking areas is the aforementioned smoking areas that don't exist or have been moved. the one by the castle was terrible! The other is every bench at POR. Wonder if that has changed? Couldn't just sit and take in the scenery without the nasty smoke.

Oh, I'd probably freak out if I saw a real tornado!! Never saw one before--only in movies or on the TV news. The movie, Twister, was interesting, but a real situation with frightening tornadoes is something I hope I never experience.

I've only seen one once. It was a small one that was maybe an F1. It was here at the office about 10-12 years ago. We were already under a tornado warning, and all of a sudden I heard stuff hitting my office window. I looked out to see leaves and twigs hitting the window and this little tornado moving through the valley behind our building about 50 yards away. It's path was between us and the start of the homes in the neighborhood next to and behind our building. Freaked me out, but, it was kinda' cool, too. It knocked a coupla' trees onto the road that leads into that neighborhood, and then gained strength and did some more damage for a coupla' miles before dying out. Nothin' major, but, it definitely made the news.

I just had a bit of fun finishing up our food budget for the trip. Even with the price increases lately it seems I budgeted enough in at the beginning of planning:joyfull::joyfull::joyfull: for us to eat without having to move anything to a cheaper place but this will most likely be the last trip with so many TS places!

It's so fun when the budget and money come out okay. Good for you and the family. You are going to have an amazing trip report. Can wait to "read all about it".:happy::happy:

Sorry to hear about your asthma. I do prefer that smokers have a designated area, because at least it is confined and not just everywhere around you, like years ago.

There was a designated outdoor smoking area at my high school. It was still there when I graduated in '80.
Not sure what year they finally quit allowing smoking anywhere at school.
