No, Bets... it's not about being upset by the joking, it is that we have gotten to the point when we are ridiculing something that we once held in esteem. I don't know whether Disney deserves that or if we are taking our actions based on the gloom of others. Some that cannot seem to see anything positive about anything. If something different then it was 20 years ago, then it is automatically bad. We, I feel, have been brainwashed into following that line of thought. I have said over and over that after 44 or more trips to WDW, I don't see where the place is falling apart. I am aware that they have not been building new stuff to any noticeable degree (in the parks) for a long time. But, I don't see any decline in appearance that cannot be explained by remembering that 20 years ago we all had respect for the place and did our best to keep it in pristine condition.

Just yesterday, I read a post where someone had thrown an empty water bottle on the bed in the Peter Pan ride. Why? Why? Why, would anyone do that and was it a problem 20 years ago? It is easy to blame Disney for all the problems that exist, but, we, as guests, are guilty of a lot of what we see today. That particular post was posted by someone that apparently was on the ride while that was happening because an announcement came over the system asking people to keep all objects within the ride vehicle. But, for awhile, until they could correct the situation it was to be seen by hundreds of people before they could even get to it to fix it. They would have to shut down the ride probably for at least a half hour to prevent anyone else from witnessing it. It just makes me sad that those of us that still enjoy the escape, that still find our own personal value in being there are now ridiculed for feeling what we feel. It is hard to keep trying to put a different light on events to keep that feeling alive. Some things are just going to happen, but, the negativity is so strong now that it filters into everything. Someone mentioned that there shouldn't be more then one major attraction down at any given time. The ones listed are in different parks. Is it fair or realistic to think that with all the complaints about lack of maintenance, we should not be happy that they are working on things or is it more fun to have it breakdown and make a big thing out of how awful maintenance is? We have to make up our minds. I have never been to WDW in all these years when something that was my favorite wasn't down, but, it is a fact. Even if they only had one scheduled to be worked on doesn't prevent another from having an unexpected problem on the same day.

I think that some of the posts on the "because of budget cuts" thread are quite humorous. Your contributions were clever as well and it is having fun with a real or perceived situation. It's just disheartening to see it happen when for so long we held the place at such a high level and the more I participate the more tainted I become. I need a place like WDW to erase real life from my mind for a few minutes. I would like to see the place as I saw it before, because I don't really believe that it is all that different, it's just that some of the wort's have now been pointed out and we can't help but see them ourselves. And I am tired of being labeled as something of a worshiper of a company, instead of worshiping those that are painting a much different picture. I'm not even sure what motivates them to do that. They say that they don't hate Disney, but, with friends like that you don't need enemies.

Interesting. I understand your perspective, I just don't share the same perspective to many of those points in your posts about the collective 'us.' Me, I am not that malleable to be brainwashed by fellow members. Not saying you are wrong, just we view things very differently.

The discussion threads on this site are just that, lots of different people with different points and views. I've played on many boards out there. I like this one because most of us can agree to disagree and move on. Every once in awhile a thread becomes so ridiculously off track that yes I find humor in them. Still there are other boards that everything must be praised to the Almighty Disney and their podcasts make me want to hurrle. I'd rather have the balance we have here. We all take away what we want from the boards and tend to land on one that fits us the best.

I remember the days, when we dressed up to go to Disney. That era just seems to be gone at the moment. I do blame the guests for lack of respect of Disney's property. Without being graphic, the women's restrooms can appear at times, like a pig sty. It's the people that trash them. I'm appalled at what people do when there isn't available space to throw things away. They feel like the floor is just one big trash can. Sometimes you find hazardous waste on the floor of the stalls. I don't know how we go about changing the culture at the theme parks.

I think it cuts both ways. At Disney or anywhere public, if bathrooms are not kept up they tend to get worse. It takes a long time to fill those little boxes in the ladies room. If it is a heavily traveled restroom adequate staff must be deployed during those hours of high use to maintain. If the garbage cans are overflowing and paper lands on the floor near it I can see how that happens. Again lack of proper manpower.

And never should the hazard box for syringes be full. I still can't wrap my brain around that. If it fills that quickly mount two. But in fairness most of the restrooms at Disney I've found to be kept up well but there are several that continue to be problematic.

And @betty rose I remember being 'dressed up' for Disneyland, dress shoes and all. I actually flew from very small in dresses, tights and dress shoes to the West Coast. For the most part I don't have recollection of being dressed up for the Magic Kingdom though. Times had evolved. No way would I want to go back to the days of my early childhood to be in a dress and dress shoes to climb on a Merry Go Round. Very Different times.

smaller planes usually move more when theres turbulence. No wing space to "absorb" the vibration.

I've ridden smaller planes from Memphis to Mississippi on a regular basis for while. One seat each side. Hated, loud and very bumpy.
But I was thinking smaller jets than that too. My Sis her senior year of high school lost her best friend in a small plane crash in the gulf of NOLA. Her Dad a grain executive was having a new ship christened in his wife's name. Family and friends were all being flown to NOLA on the private corporate small jets. My Sis' friend and her boyfriend had a fight and he didn't wind up going. They pulled her off that plane and put her on another so a couple could take those two seats since her boyfriend was no longer going. Her newly assigned plane crashed and they all perished out over the water during a storm, the other planes landed safely. That was enough for me, I was done with little planes.

The Christening never happened that day. Months later it was officially Christened after a name change, the Ship was Christened in his daughters name vs wife.

Saratoga Springs, isn't Disney at all. The grand sons, always liked getting away from all the Disney stuff after a day in the parks. Great way for them to decompress.

And that is why I love both the French Quarter and Port Riverside. Like Saratoga Port Orleans resorts are not much of a Destination on most non-resort guests radar. The lounge at Riverside or some pastry at FQ but so very few non resort guests, its nice and peaceful.

eeeh no..
both planes can glide for a bit. but both will still plummet when they lose sustentation.

Yep. I guess the only con I can say about commercial travel is it is far more susceptible to terrorism than small private planes. I'll still go with the odds though.

Although most people are informed of plane crashes involving large, multi-passenger commercial flights, the majority of aviation accidents do not occur in commercial flights. Rather, figures from the National Transportation Safety Board indicate that a staggering 97 percent of aviation fatalities occur in general aviation, not in commercial flights.

And probably because most of these planes/crew are not hold with that rigorous training and guidelines as the big commercial airlines.
I mean, a lot of the small plane fatalities are also because most of the pilots are either too young or too old.
Or the planes just plain out fail thanks to not much maintenance or revisions.

Yep, the lake sure changed also with the honk'n big DVC at the Contemporary. Much like the water views on the World Showcase have been greatly diminished over the years. I understand their business model, I just don't like their business model.
they are pretty much destroying what was special. I mean, I would surely pay that much money for the poly, just to get blocked views or null lake access thanks to the new pizza huts.

It sure is. Except I can't have the current large glasses, distorts my vision too much. Life is a funny thing. ;)

I have the same issue. I have bifocals but the top is window glass, my reading has become so impossible I just went from readers to bifocals so I could function. If the glass is too big it messes with my peripheral vision. Took a couple stabs (very expensive stabs) before someone finally pointed out what the real issue was.
