So I am eligible to get a new phone now and thinking about the iPhone 5s. Any tech-y reasons not to get it?
expensive? I dunno. It all depends on what you use it for and your tastes.

I actually don't care about new, as long as it works. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S2, which is way old, but has suited my needs for the most part. Plus I'm cheap and I don't want to pay too much for a new phone. Also, my current service provider is not a major commercial one, which is why my selection isn't up to date.

So if the 5s is decent without any quirks or idiosyncrasies (at least no more than any other phone), then I'm sure it'll work fine for me.

why not just upgrade to a Galaxy S6? or a Note 4?

I have to at least do gel or I'd have a bunch of random hairs sticking straight up! But I'm so glad I don't have to blow dry - I also have thick hair, but with our temperate weather year-round it's usually dry (or almost) by the time I get to work. The noise of the drier always annoyed me. :p

Gel is too gooey. I just use some hair spray to tame my hair in the humid weather. I hate the frizzies!! :depressed:

They were pretty well written. Although I didn't care the storyline when Marlena was possessed on Days of Our Lives, that freaked me out. We didn't watch Dallas or Dynasty as a family, but my parents might've when I was in bed. I did watch Dallas when it was on replays a few years ago on the soap channel. It was pretty good too.

Never watched any daytime soap operas, but I really, really liked the (original 1978 series) Dallas!! That was a great show. As with a number of multi-year shows, the writing got a bit strange toward the end of the series, though. At that point, it was time for it to go off the air. (I think some of the scripts started going downhill when Jim Davis, who played the patriarch of the family, Jock Ewing, passed away from cancer. I thought he was a pivotal character in that series, and they really couldn't replace his role, when he passed away.)

Get ready to laugh--as the most non-tech person on this forum, I'm going to give you advice!  (I still have a little flip phone with no pictures, no internet, no nothing. It has voicemail, but I don't know how to use that either.) So here goes my "expert" advice --

I think you should get the 6. Why? Because as @wdwmagic pointed out, the others are old or older now. From the puny amount of tech understanding that I have, I know that often the newer models will "fix" any previous glitches from the older models, so maybe it's best to get a 6 and save yourself some aggravation.
