6 weeks is a short holiday, but you're right mine have been out for7 and have one to go. I need them to go, I love them but they always seem to have their friends over and there's never any food around!
My kids are still young enough that they don't eat me out of house and home yet, but they fight over whose turn it is to do this or that. I need the routine of the school day to get stuff done without kids underfoot!

When do your kids get holiday over there?
Between July and September. It differs each year. There are 3 regions and those 3 regions rotate for who gets the earliest, middle, and late vacation time. Last year we were the latest, so the kids got out at the end of July. This year we were middle, so they got out in the middle of July. Next year I think we're middle again. We also get shorter breaks throughout the year...a week in October, a week in Feb. and a week or 2 in may. But when you are traveling internationally, especially with a huge time change, a week isn't worth the expense of going on a vacation.

We drive but it's well worth it for us as my older ds does not do well with any type of public transportation

That's what we always did when I lived in the states. We drove EVERYWHERE. I actually prefer that. I got to see SO much of the US that way. We'd take several days and stop at different historical places or places of interest on the way to wherever we were going. Caves, forts, museums, trails, etc. Obviously I can't drive from here, so I have to pay international flight prices, but I miss the cross country drives. If I still lived in the states, that's probably what we'd do. Though my husband isn't really used to the distances a Wyomingite is, so he might not agree to that. We drove from Chicago to Wyoming one year on our trip home and I don't think he enjoyed it as much as I did. He liked seeing all the landscapes and places of interest, but he didn't like spending the day in a car.
Do you do stuff along the way to stretch your legs and see some sites?

It is a very difficult place to predict weather. When we first moved out here we were surprised to see rain falling in the front yard, and not in the back. Up in the mountains, we saw a cylinder of rain pouring down, in the middle of the street, out of one little cloud. How do you predict that?:D

Sounds like magic to me!

@Songbird76 do you get those really good ticket deals like they do in the UK?
I'm eligible, yes. I never knew about them before, but I was reading the Disneytouristblog and it mentioned the deals, so I went searching and found mousesavers, which had a link for international ticket deals. When I followed that link, I also found a fantastic package deal for next summer that includes free dining, cheaper accommodations, and 14 day ultimate tickets for the price of 7, plus a gift card. We're hoping to get that deal. I called, and we can get it, but we need to know WHEN we will be there before I can book it, and since we can't see return flights for another month, I can't book yet. I'm chomping at the bit!!

Sounds like a great deal I hope you get it. We're not going until next August, the one other good thing about driving is we make our own schedule.

That's so true! We're doing a combo trip....Disney and seeing my family. So we're on a bit of a tight schedule, too. We only get to make a trip about once every 5 years, so we have to cram everything in when we finally get to go!
How often do you go to Disney? It seems like everyone here goes all the time!

Not us, next year will make 3 years between trips. If all goes well my dh and I no children will be going for a week or so in 2017. We'll have APs for UNI so that part of the trip is already paid for.
