If I could do our last trip over I would've scheduled rest days every other day. Commando was just too much in that heat for DD!
People ask us why we sit around the pool for our August trips in the morning and then go to the parks after 3 pm most days. Other than water park days, we probably spend about 4 or 5 whole days in the park for a two week trip and that's it. Two reasons.

1. AP holders, we go there more than once a year.
2. HEAT!

Sleeping until 9 or 10 is just a bonus (and some of you are probably like: :jawdrop::eek::facepalm::banghead::arghh: right now...)

Yes, as far as I've heard the military leases it. There are a couple military hotels around the world. We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian. Village in Oahu and next door was the hale Kia a military only hotel. Although anyone could use the beach bar and they had cheaper drinks that the Hilton and cheaper food. The drinks were delicious.
There were some crazy prices at the Hilton. I balked at a $4 soda in Pronto Pickle over there, and then thought to myself "Oh, people complain about WDW prices? That's funny!"

Of course, you could walk to one of the two ABC stores at the Hilton and pay $1.50 for the same bottle of soda...I don't get that one.

Did not realize that Hale Kia was military-only. We didn't visit any of the other hotels in Waikiki, just strolled past them on the beach.

Here, that wasn't so much the issue I think. I think people are pretty aware that the public schools are very good. A lot of kids in this area go to public elementary schools and then private middle and high schools. Our neighbors complained a good bit about the definite sense of entitlement at the original private school where they sent their daughter. They even noticed it at one of the Catholic colleges they looked at for her. They sent her to a school where there was not the strong sense of entitlement.

Of course, I have noticed at my high school's rival that a general sense of entitlement exists there as well. And that's a public school. So...while it's a tendency, it can happen anywhere.

My niece went to private prep school in Ohio from Kindergarden till she just graduated high school. $250,000.00 grand total for tuition only. I don't think it is a matter of caring, many of us can't afford that.

Yep, we never made it to rope drop on our trip - the earliest we would get to the parks was around 10am. Live and learn. :cat:

We did early EMH once for Blizzard Beach back when they had it for that park. We did rope drop for Blizzard Beach as well. Now we have premium APs and don't worry about getting there until 10 or 11.

Earliest I've done another park was when my bestie and I got to MK at 9:20. I see the appeal of getting there and doing a bunch of stuff, but I am not a morning person. I have a much better time when I'm allowed to sleep.

When we did long trips in the fall while my kids were growing up we never or actually rarely saw mornings at any park. We did stay late in the parks often closing them. The gift of time of long vacations made it easy to do all the other things and go in later into the parks and still visit all the major attractions multiple times.

I have done August twice with my DS. At one point walking the WS with DS I all of a sudden felt ill. We ducked into the store at Japan and spent a good hour in there until my body calmed from the extreme heat. July, well 4th of July weekends were not much better. It is wicked humid. One Christmas break we did 70's all but 2 days which were slightly cooler, did both waterparks (back when they were open for the holidays and the second one going down after New Years) It was lovely. We did late January-Feburary one year for 2 weeks. Our kids were small but we were in jackets and jeans the entire trip. Still it was a nice break from the snow. April and November seem to be my favorite times to visit.

If it was just me, I'd definitely make the effort to do EMH or rope drop at MK at least once or twice, but my DD is very much not a morning person like me. Like mother, like daughter! :D

When I travel with my DD we get to the parks pretty early. We did EMH several times on our last trip in the morning. Still we couldn't close a park being up so early too often. I think we closed the Studios and Epcot but that was about it. When I visit my DS well he isn't a morning person, even when he wakes it takes forever for him to actually hit the bus stop. A few times my DD and I though the years left him in bed and let him join us later. So not a morning person. I'm nocturnal. I'd rather sleep in and stay out late but I can adjust to early or late depending on who I am traveling with. I'm too old to commando early to wee hours anymore. I don't enjoy being that tired even at WDW. If it is a short trip like 5 days I can pull off the lack of sleep, anything longer it catches up with me.

The trip before our last one was in November (we had Thanksgiving dinner at Captain's Grille), and it was warm enough, plus was less crowded than I expected. I would love to go in April or May, though!

@MinnieM123 it is overwhelming trying to pick out food for the dog. Mine used to eat beneful and loved it then I heard there were a lot of dogs getting sick from it. So we switched and we have tried a lot of brands but she doesn't like any of it. She even stopped eating for at least two whole days. So I decided to put some beneful back in her bowl and she gobbled it up. I don't know what I will do when she is done with this bag, keep her on it or try something else. Good luck with your food search. Let us know what you decide on as I might want to try that one too.

I've used Beneful in one of those knock around treat toys for Walt. He loves Beneful too but they toy holds about 1/4 cup and Walt is a big boy.

I like many of the less popular restaurants. Big River is a go to for us, their Kobe Burger is over the top yummy.
