One person I like is Mike Rowe from Dirtiest Jobs. He has a foundation called mikeroweworksfoundation scholarships. He is a big supporter for trades jobs. I do not feel you should substitute trade school for normal high school education. That should come first. But there are many stories of young adults also going to college and wasting 1-4 years and find out college is not for them or cannot find jobs based on there degree and are working at Starbucks. There are many trades other than refrigerator or A/C.

As I said above my Dad was a contractor, so yes I realize that. Curious since you are such an advocate of pushing kids into the trades, what trade are you in? My kids both worked other jobs until they finally found a career, I find nothing wrong with working at Starbucks until you realize your goal.

Outside of paying for your student loans...or even your basic bills.

Caught up on much of the discussion regarding trade vs "higher education"...

You can't create anything unless you understand it.

I am not sure anyone who has spent 4 years in school without creating much besides responses to assignments understands anything at all.

I do not hold the fact someone has a lambskin with much regard at all. You either know what you are talking about, or you don't. Only the ignorant hide behind certification to justify their existence or their intelligence (and I'm quite sure college is not a reflection of intelligence).

So, to flip this around, have a look at how Germany does things.

I own a home/office cleaning business. Like you advocate of pushing kids into college? I never said that all young adults should go into trades only. I feel it is an alternative to college that should be explored.

The simple fact is, not everyone can be the star, not everyone can be the boss, not everyone can do the job of their (at the moment early post-pubescent) dreams, and not everyone wants to.

Why there is the push to have your plumber grossly aware of the nuances of Shakespeare, when all he really wants to do is show up, do his job, go home and spend time with the family, is beyond me. Wouldn't you want him to be the most skilled in his trade, instead of the most worldly?

Or would you rather he be able to tell you about some paper he crammed out on an overnight session of red bull trying to get over a hangover his sophomore year that explained disparity in income between women and men to appease his professor...

Certainly I do advocate college. You can always take a lesser job but you can't always take a better job without the degree. I know my DS would not have even been considered for the position he holds without a 4 year degree nor the position my DD will shortly start.

What is a "lesser job"? What is the scale that you measure these things with?

I feel your pain! Both my DD and me have the same issue. Even some floral bath products send us to headache-ville.

How did it go?

I love the Geir Ness cologne in Norway though. It's like heaven in a bottle.

My interview went well then again I always think they go well. They told me 160 people applied already (only been up for a week) and they haven't looked at every application yet. Entry level HR position which I told them I would love and all that good stuff. Though they didn't ask me about computer skills which is odd because usually every place ask you that.

I'm happy your resume made it too the interview stage. Hang in there.

I think part of the problem with colognes is people just don't know when to stop applying, a little bit goes a long way.

I lived next door to a similar Nova that was too pretty to be a Drag Racing car for decades. Knew it was spring when it would come back from storage.

Love it!
I've always been interested in how things work. Cars, planes, rockets, etc., etc., etc.. Cars were always more accessible to me, so my interest began at a relatively early age.
Another reason why Imagineering fascinates me. :)
