Currently 30 degrees here at the Raleigh Durham Airport (RDU). When I woke up it was 28. That certainly is not in my "move to NC contract". The average for December around here is 55, so it is working to bring that average down.

Woof…!
For some ludicrous reason we’re supposed to be down around 15 (yes, 15) degrees come Thursday mornin’.
Excuse me while I find a place to “Magically” stowaway my warm weather beeeeeeehind somewhere on this ship…!!!!!:hilarious:

As long as we are sharing temperatures it is currently 2 degrees Fahrenheit, but it is sunny! It has been cloudy for about a week now and then it snowed for 4 1/2 days, so I'll take cold and sunny. And I'm too lazy and also currently covered in dog to get a pictures, but the icicles hanging from our porch are sparkling in the sunlight and look very pretty. (Oh and subzero temps are in our very near future, like tonight.)

Panama Canal 2022 Trip Report P4

Continuing day at Gamboa.

There were ton of birds, very loud toucans everywhere and some birds of prey.

It was awesome.

I also went to walk thru the pool area where there were some really large threes full of berries and fruits. Which was completely shock full of birds!

Then it was time for breakfast.. the same boring buffet... and the same no wifi problem with the restaurant.

My sis in the other hand was annoyed as she was double charged by the CC machine of the hotel that was used in the restaurant, which failed more than once.
We again had to go to the lobby to get charged.

After that we got to our room to get ready for the tour to the monkey Island.

Which we got again up in the safari truck and they drove us to the near boat marina, which had people waiting already.

Bad part? mom decided she had to "go" to the restroom right there.
She took her time to the annoyance of some people lol.

Anyway we boarded the boat and we went our way...

The tour operator talked about the story of some of the bridges, the panama canal (we boated kind of close to some large ships moving thru the canal) and we got close to some islands full of nature.

Funfact, cappuccino monkeys knows to "ask" (aka they get on boats) when they want to cross from one island to another.
Note that these monkeys can be aggressive, so we kept our distance.

We saw a few types of Monkeys. The area was gorgeous (but very hot and humid, the speed of the boat made it tolerable).

Panama Canal 2022 Trip Report P5

The trip continued.. managed to catch one sneaky Toucan!

Our guide had laser eyes, cause he found these tiny bats right away.

Funny to see them lined up. There was a large line of 8 bats.

Hard to see, because this is what a normal person sees (most of my photos were on a large Photolens)

We also saw this very photogenic monkey!

We of course saw some ships and their companions..

After the trip, we returned and we got ready as we had to go to Colon for one night.

Colon was on the other side of Panama, in the Caribbean sea.

And this is where we got a very hard scare.

The transporation from the hotel to Colon was 140 USD... 140 freaking USD!!!
It was unreal!

Then we spotted a Taxi that had just dropped a person.. And we asked.. 100 USD for the trip.
Turns out that the hotel gets 40 USD extra just for calling? what the hell...

Also my sister whose luck aura always shines in the worst moments.. shone again..
As we spotted a lone Uber nearby (Ubers usually do not come this way) that was dropping a person.
We quickly called it and he accepted.
When he came, turns out he was dropping some crazy french tourists who wanted to be dropped in the middle of nowhere.. in the forest.
The Uber said the hotel area was the farthest he could go.

Then he went "YOU GOING TO COLON.. MY GOD!!!" (aka a trip that was longer than he expected).

But he accepted and we went our way.
The person was very pleasant to talk with.. and the taxi? it costed a mere 45 USD plus tips.
Thats how much taxis overprice ppl here!!

Hilariously, we had to stop for a bit to refuel and he explained more about the story of Panama.
He also warned us about Colon and how insecure the areas about the port area, specially the "tax free" zone.
Also there are no ubers functioning in Colon.

Good thing we decided to change to an hotel that was right next to the port!

And yes, after we arrived.. the town was decent, but once you get to the port and old town zone.. it looks like you stepped into the worst areas of a big city after a large economic crash.
People sleeping on the streets, shady guys, gang guys, etc.. you name it.
Anyway we made it safe to the hotel and we registered.

Turns out that they had made a mistake in the registration as we requested a doubles room and they only had single king.
So they upgraded us to a suite! (yaaay!)

The room was very good and spacious!
Then they later got me a rollover bed.
Also had 2 bathrooms which made everything way better.
