As far as your Grandma not measuring, I've heard the same thing about Dad's grandma and My moms mom when it comes to cooking. Its pretty common.

I’ve taught my DD hand measurements. She would measure every handful and add it to ingredients total and so forth. I taught her to look for thickness consistency too like dumplings and stews. I thank God for my Grandma cause she knew my Mom was a horrible cook. I knew it too from early childhood. My DD Is great now. Now that my son is over

Yes! On Saturday night 5am a huge boom. Nasty rain and high wind thunderstorms. Every one in my neighborhood up. Lights suddenly turning on in most homes. FACEBOOK later was filled with DID YOU HEAR THAT BOOM. Me I got up to make sure one of the trees didn’t come down on house. It didn’t thank goodness. I went back to bed for several more hours after checking the radar.
