Hello,

Still preparing for finals, but I need a break because I'm drained.

Chorus concert went well last night. Group project for Spanish is almost done. The other two group members will meet, record their section, and they will mesh their sections. I might have to print the script, though. My group member came over to my school so that we could record our section and I could still make it to my concert in time. We discovered that while I do not have to pay to print at school (we get a $15 printing allowance per month; you can add more money if you need it. I've never gotten anywhere near using it all), they do, so I may print it so it doesn't cost them. But at least that's one thing out of the way.

Have not pulled out my laptop at all since getting my new tablet. Although got frustrated with it yesterday when it insisted on installing updates right then. And then it said, "Cannot complete updates, undo..." Two hours later, it did just that. :banghead: More like a Windows 8 issue than an issue with the device though. This is now the fourth Windows 8 computer we've had, and I've had other ones do the exact same thing. Hopefully this gets solved with Windows 10.

Hope everyone is well!
I love that your concert went so well. Congrats....

Time for another back home at the farm story. It was Thanksgiving so we were at the farm. My mother and all of her sister's took turns, cooking the turkey, the rest of the aunts, made the sides. This time it was Aunt Pauletta's turn. I was so excited, they had geese and we didn't. Pulling up to the farmhouse...I saw only one goose, I asked my sister where the other one was. She said it was probably out in the pasture. (I'm sure you know where this is going). I didn't think anymore about it. We sat down for dinner, my Aunt brought out the "turkey". I dug into my turkey, as it's still my favorite meat. I said to sis, what did Aunt Pauletta do to the turkey, I don't like the taste of it. My sister leaned over, and whispered into my ear...you goose is cooked. I couldn't eat another bite. And I held a grudge against that Aunt and Uncle for a long time. :D

This is why we were advised by our parents, from a very young age, not to get too emotionally attached to any (sans the kitties and puppies ;)) farm critters, lest they end up on the dining table at some point...! :D ;) :)

No
That 43" TV currently in our family room came from our bedroom. I don't miss it all.
At one point, we had 4 people living here ... and 7 TVs. That's crazy.
Now it's 5 and 5 ... until we get that 65" TV. We had been looking at 70" and 80", but our new stand only accomodates up to 65". Yep, just saved me more than $2K.
We have four people living here and only 3 TVs.o_O

For some reason, my parents' room is the only bedroom that has a cable hookup. My brother's and my rooms do not. We use our laptops to watch TV in our rooms or otherwise have to watch it in the family room or basement. Usually my brother only uses the family room TV. I'm the only one who uses the basement TV other than if my brother goes down there to use the Wii.

My dad has been debating getting a new TV and Blue Ray player for the family room and moving the current family room TV to the basement, along with the PS3, and then putting the current basement TV in the exercise room.

I use our big TV, mostly because my eyesight is not as good as hubbys. I'm almost glad I don't see so well.;)

Good luck with you're finals. Such a stressful time. Breathe in , breathe out, slowly....;)

I had something similar happen when I was about 10 or so. I used to spend 3 or more weeks in the summer staying at my Grandparents house. Both were retired but they did have chickens. My job every morning was to go out and collect the eggs. They, of course, became MY chickens.

Flash ahead to fall. We were going to their place for our regular Sunday afternoon family gathering and when we pulled into the yard this is what I saw. My Grandfather would grab a chicken by the head, take his jackknife and cut the head off, leaving the chicken to run around the yard like... well, like a chicken with its head cut off. It didn't take long before the nerves quit functioning, but, it was surprising how far they could run like that. Then my Grandmother would take them and drop them into boiling water for just a little while to make it easy to remove the feathers. That afternoon my entire chicken family was done in and readied for the freezer. Except, of course for the couple that they held out for Sunday Dinner. What was amazing is that they actually expected me to eat any of it. Fortunately, I got over the trauma and now can quite happily devour chicken with no bad feelings at all. But, then again... I am dead on the inside!:devilish::grumpy:

Hahaaa...!
As I've posted before, both of my grandmothers were very sweet ladies that loved their girly things, but, there was work to be done on the farm. I used to go with them to get the chickens for soup. They would don their bonnet, apron, rubber boots...and hatchet. There was a stump each of them had that they would lay them on to lop their heads off and then toss them in a galvanized tub so they didn't run off.
A few hours later...fresh chicken soup. :hungry: :)

My Mom and Dad never let me name the animals, now I know why. They were good parents, but more harsh than today's parents...I went to a church that preached "spare the rod, spoil the child". My parents never used the rod, but a fly swatter and the hand did just as well.

My folks are awesome, but, when we deserved it, pop preferred a belt, and mom broke many a wooden mixing spoon on us boys arses. Then she discovered plastic mixing spoons...!!! :joyfull: ;) :)

Thank you for that story. I'm sure those things happened to kids on the farm, and those who visited a grandparent that had a farm. We share the real life death and the circle of life. Those lessons can come too early for sensitive people, like me. I refuse to listen to animal abuse storys on TV. However, I make a donation from my inheritance , in remembrance of my folks. To a no kill animal shelter, called the Max Fund. I would like to have another doggie, in my life. But, I can't stand losing them anymore. :bawling:

My mom is 76 and my pop is 82. After their last pup died about 4 years ago, mom felt the same way , and they have not gotten another pup since.
