There was a time back in the day some of my peers were suspended and or fired for surfing the internet on company time on an office computer regarding non work related items. Now people surf the internet on their own device without much fear of company IT going after them.
From the perspective of someone who used to work in IT...IT people have enough crap to do. They simply cannot babysit people on their work computers. The only thing I cared about when working in IT was what you had installed on your computer. Other than that, you could be on YouTube all day and IT wouldn't know or care. Your supervisor might, but we weren't monitoring.

One guy logged onto a private office computer one night 20 years ago and when the person returned to work the next day he discovered another person sign on locked on his computer screen. He called IT and the other person was suspended when adult websites were viewed by the person the night before.

Now they just would block those. IT doesn't have time for that nonsense. Plus you can accidentally download a virus on those websites...not good.

But they are most likely not even checking to see if you went to a blocked website. Stuff happens; you could have ended up there by accident.

Your coworker was just dumb, though.

Yes dumb and he paid the price when IT and HR brought him into a room and asked him with his sign on how did he access this website at 1205, then another one at 1230, another one at 1245 etc. He denied everything and he was still suspended.

My experience with TX ( San Antonio and Houston ) during the summer visiting my girlfriend at the time was downright oppressive. In Las Vegas walking on the Strip in the summer and the surface temp was approx 115 degrees, that dry heat was much more tolerable. Some entrepreneur guys stationed at different parts were selling bottled water for us thirsty tourists. How football teams can practice in the late summer in TX is a wonder.

Yep, I’ve been in Tucson, AZ before when the static air temp was 118, and that dry heat temp was definitely more comfortable than here at 105 with big humidididididity. ;)
Back in the day here when I was in HS, the football teams used to do two-a-days (two practices a day) that time of year.
Not sure if that’s still the case 🤔, but, it’s probably illegal down here, these days...!!!!! :hilarious:

It was a rite of passage of August two-a-days high school and college football to prepare for the first game of the season back in the day. One school had an morning practice with full pads and full contact, an afternoon similar practice followed by a third practice that ended at 7pm to practice kick offs/special teams or what the football players called August triple sessions. These kind of practices would never be approved in these current times.
