I'm looking for support or correction on this. I don't honestly ever remember hearing background music while waiting for a Monorail or even a bus for that matter. Why should there be any for the Gondola's. As a preventive statement. I am not one that notes background stuff. If anything is there it is part of the atmosphere to me and not something that I take note of. I know there are some of you that know what songs are in any areas loop, I only remember one and that is "Now is the Best Time" from WDW's first CoP. That one had a very strong sentimental memory for me and I notice it consciously when it comes on other then that it is white noise atmosphere background. I suppose I might notice it if it wasn't where my brain thought it should be.
Hrmmm...I don't remember at bus stops, but I KNOW there was music at the Magic Kingdom boat docks, because I was singing along with it, and I thought at the monorail, too, but I can't remember now. Being a singer, I sometimes don't even realize I'm singing along with the music, but I definitely notice background music if it's something that I really love or that I really hate. If I can't sing along, I'm not likely to remember it, so it might depend on the loop that's playing.

Ok, I'm like....40 pages behind, so while it's still fresh in my mind, I'm going to post some pictures and such from our trip this week. It was just a short trip down South. We left Monday afternoon and came back Thursday. We visited the 3 countries point where Germany, The Netherlands, and Belgium all meet, we stayed in a hotel in Aachen, Germany, and we visited places in that area: Roman bath house in Heerlen, the Netherlands, the City of Monschau (Germany), and the castle ruins in Valkenburg, Netherlands.

We drove down to Aachen and checked into our hotel and then went to the Three Countries Point about 20 minutes away. There's an observatory tower there, which we didn't go up in, and there's a labyrinth you can do, etc.
118175028_606249836741036_3802265163756933414_n.jpg

It took us a while and we ended up doing many parts more than once, but we found the center eventually. There were places where there were paths with a fountain that you had to wait for it to turn off if you didn't want to walk through the water, and since we were with a car, we didn't want to get all wet. But it was fun.

Then we drove back to Aachen for dinner. We took A to McDonalds and then we went to an Italian place M and I had wanted to go to on our anniversary weekend in September, but it was closed then because the people were on vacation. So we went this time instead. It was really good. They brought us a basket of bread with toppings for it:

I didn't eat much of this because I wanted to save room for the real food. A ate quite a bit of it, and loved it, so we asked if we could get another basket so he could have more and they were so nice. They didn't even charge us for it!

I am a huge mushroom fan....I LOVE mushrooms. E and I have similar taste with most things, so our strategy is usually to pick our 2 favorite looking dishes and we each order one and then we share. Very rarely, it backfires and we get one we both don't like and then have to share the one we do, but this did not happen here.

So, we ordered the mushrooms with provolone cheese as a starter, and then for our mains we ordered a steak with gorgonzola cream sauce and a pasta with a mushroom cream sauce.

M ordered a steak with pepper sauce, which looks about the same as our steak, but then with peppercorns in it. The steak was cooked nicely, and it was good, but we both really loved the mushroom pasta. SOOOOO good.

For dessert, E and I shared a Tartufo thing that tasted basically like Ferrero Rocher in ice cream form, and M had tiramisu.

Once again the boys are not happy with me as they are bringing in my haul from the farm market. This week's project is easier than last week's!!!!!!!! A bushel of roasted red peppers:hungry::hungry::hungry::hungry::hungry:

Are you just roasting and then either canning or freezing the red peppers? We had some roasted red pepper hummus with something at WDW last week and it was really good.

I forgot to mention the boys are going to be really mad at me because they're going to spend the day shucking corn. The local organic corn is finally in and I have a freezer to fill:angelic:

I remember the corn shucking days as a kid when it was time for my mom to can and freeze the sweet corn we grew. I didn't mind the shucking until I came to one that had that worms or a fungus. That creeped me out. I still get wary of shucking corn now because of that.

We are having some corn tonight and even though hubs says he will shuck it I know that I will end up doing it. Just because I get it done faster. I can get a few shucked by the time he finishes one. He never had the pleasure of "helping" with the harvest as a kid.

Oh and something funny about hubs lack of gardening knowledge (but he is learning). When we got home the other day our driveway & where the car parks is next to where our pumpkins are growing. So I pointed it out to B and he walked over to the pumpkins and was standing right by two of them but he said he couldn't see any. So I pointed them out and he was surprised and asked why they weren't orange because pumpkins are orange. He thought something was wrong with them, not that they weren't ripe yet. It was kind of cute and funny.:)

I agree, I have never really paid attention because it was background music not something that I would focus on. I do know they used to play some music on the buses, but it seems to me now it is mostly promoting different thing you can find on Disney property.

Looks like you had a great mini vacation. I remember when my family went to Germany in the early 90’s they would charge you for every roll you got. Guess they don’t do that anymore. The food and especially those desserts look so delicious.

I couldn't read it. I have an ad blocker plus it wanted me to be a subscriber.
If you want to, please briefly summarize the USA Today article's main point(s).
Basically, because the economy shut down, cash stopped flowing through the economy. Also, people were afraid to handle cash for a while because we didn't know if it could spread covid, so we switched to electronic payments. The US mint also had to shut down for a while, so recirculation hasn't caught up.

If you have spare coins, you're encouraged to take them to your bank or donate them.

Tuesday morning we went to this little bakery where M and I had gotten the breakfast buffet each morning of our anniversary trip in September. It was a popular buffet that had several different types of rolls and pastries, yoghurt, fresh fruit, oats, cakes, eggs, breakfast meats, etc...it was a really good spread and we thought A would at least eat the breads, and I was sure they had some cereal last time, too, and E likes eggs and bacon and such. I was thinking we couldn't get in so we went somewhere else, but now I don't remember where we went....and if we didn't go this day, then I don't remember where we went the next day. I think we DID get in this day and I know we weren't impressed, so we decided not to go back the next day. They only had a couple of kinds of breads, no yoghurt, only scrambled eggs...A ate 2 mini croissants....and I mean MINI, and that was it....for 15 bucks. Not worth it.

Then we explored Aachen a bit. We went into the city hall, and E and I went into the cathedral, but we didn't do the treasury or anything, and I thought maybe I posted pictures of those things in September, but if I didn't, and you'd like to see pictures, let me know and I will post some. I didn't take any this time because M and I had already seen all of it.

In the afternoon, we went to Heerlen to the Roman baths, which M and I also did....I'll post just a couple of pictures, but I have lots more from last time, so if you want to see, let me know. I didn't take any this time, though they've done more work on it....it's a work in progress. They are still digging there and adding new things they find, and they have finished the pathway around the perimeter of the site, where last time, that wasn't done, so you could only access the catwalk suspended above it. Now you could actually see the things up close, in places, walking right over the ducts where they placed clear walkways over so you can see under the walkway.

118072025_660354384583653_3747205812499617344_n.jpg118248570_638259700400677_7972434031606477790_n.jpg

It's really a neat site and they have a film that explains the excavation they are doing and another film with a model of the ruins so you can see what everything is. Then they have a room with artifacts found at the site...jewelry, slippers, clay pots, glass perfume bottles, etc. They have an audio tour in English if anyone ever makes it this way and wants to visit.

After that we went to find food. We ended up at a restaurant with Tapas, but I didn't take pictures because it was all standard stuff....not very photo worthy. A dish of mushrooms, a couple of spare ribs, half an ear of corn, etc...tasty, but not pretty. I DID take a picture of all the desserts...it was also small portions, so you could order 3 for 6 euros. So M, E, and I all got crema catalana, E and I shared the churros and the profiteroles, M got Tiramisu and A got a lava cake and Ice cream.118250339_964313540702724_491464662637374075_n.jpg

I think losing weight can impact shoe size, while hubs shoe size is still the same he doesn’t have to get wide width anymore and he has had to for years.
I was afraid to mention it because, well you know how one can ask a question that embarrasses the asker and the askee. I thought that your Hub looks like he lost some weight, maybe even a lot. Is it true?

Yes he has lost almost 90 pounds since October 2019. He had a health scare and that got him to start the weight loss. He has worked really hard and I'm really proud of him. :) His doctor is really proud of his progress too.

The difference is very visible and he is basically a very young man (at least compared to me, but who isn't) and I know that problems that can come with excess weight not to mention the self esteem involved. Congratulations to him and I encourage him to keep working on it. It looks like he is being very successful. Just don't let him weigh himself so close to your Disney trip. ;) :D

Wednesday:
I asked E and she said yes, we went to be breakfast buffet Tuesday, Wednesday we went to Subway. We called it an early night on Tuesday...E's stomach was upset and we were tired. We looked for somewhere to eat breakfast on Wed, but it was slim pickin's. McDonalds in Germany didn't open for breakfast, burger king's breakfast offerings were minimal (according to E and M....I didn't look) and none of the other buffets said what was included. Subway was open, so we decided to try it. It was also very very limited. There were only 3 kinds of bread, I think, and only a few options for sandwiches. But it was edible, so can't complain.

Today, the plan was to visit Monschau. We had looked for things to do in the area, and this city was only a 40 minute drive and looked really beautiful and there were a few museums/attractions that looked promising. There was a castle, a glass blower, the home of the founder who was a cloth merchant, etc. A had loved the glass blowing in DLP a few years ago, so that seemed like something he'd like and wouldn't bore him. The town sits down in a kind of valley or hole...it actually looked a lot like Bavaria to me.

From the parking lot:

If you look at the White building in the middle of the second picture, and go straight up and a tiny bit to the right, you can see the tower of the castle just above the trees...it's hard to make out, but it's there.

Here are some random ones taken throughout the town.

Here's the castle up on the hill above the parking lot at the glass blowing place.

I'd have loved to go up there, but you can't go in the castle anyway, and we couldn't figure out where the pathway was, A didn't want to go up because he's stared of heights, and I didn't want to chance it with my hip. So we just looked up at it....there was a nice view from the highway once we left, but I didn't see it in time to get a picture, so this is the best I've got.
