Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
Yep, me neither, other than an occasional 2.5 hour or so closing shift for this guy.
It was one of the last two retail jobs I had before my old architectural firm hired me back full-time. The other was at The Disney Store. TDS could get nutso.
Kay Jewelers was kinda' crazy, too. Associates practically elbowing each other to get to the next customer that walked into the store. :bored: We had this one customer that would buy an expensive piece of jewelry about every two weeks and then return it. Basically, she was just "borrowing" jewelry. The SM finally got corporate in on it and they put a stop to it. I finally quit that one after about 5 mos. when TDS made me a Lead Mgr. Did that and seasonal work at a calendar and game place in the same mall as TDS. As the seasonal gig was wrappin' up, the guy from the clothing store (his mall location is directly across from Kay Jewelers, and he was friends with the Kay SM) asked me to come work for him.
Yep, did retail for four+ years and don't wanna' ever go back, if I can help it.
But, I can if I hafta'. :)

I forgot about the jewelry store one but your mind-numbing storytime about the battery place well, I was glad you didn't work at the Mall of America 'cause ya might have jumped. :in pain:;)

good to know that you have a good reputation. Employers always try to get good trusted employees.

Misophonia, the phobia of not being able to tolerate the sounds of impolite people chewing with their mouths open.

th
That would be my mom. No one is allowed to chew gum in the same room as her. Also, she will yell if you chew with your mouth open. Sometimes it's fun to watch my dad do it on purpose to annoy her after she's yelled...

Sympathy like. So sorry, sweetie. If it makes you feel any better, I'm not having the greatest day either...I blame the weather.

I have 2 interviews tomorrow for jobs I really don't want but beggars can't be choosers. A phone interview for a job I actually do want. And I totally mess up a phone call from a job but got an interview anyway. So maybe hell is freezing over and my luck is turning.

Thankfully for me, at least with nuts, shared equipment isn't an issue. May contain nuts or trace amounts is what I need to be careful with, and at home, when my mom used to make my brother's and my lunches, she would make my sandwich first before his and then wash the cutting board. I started making my own lunch the one morning that she put peanut butter on my sandwich instead of soy nut butter.

Pineapple is an entirely different beast. I have a specific brand of salsa that we buy because we know that there's no cross contamination with pineapple. If my mom has a pineapple, she has to cut it when I'm not home and wrap it up and put it on a shelf in the refrigerator that I don't use. For that reason alone, she doesn't buy it very much.

If I was allergic to PB, I don't know what I would do.

But we sold PB cookies at my last job and people would ask us if the other cookies had PB in them too. And we would say no but they were all made in the same factory so we advise against having them. And people would buy them anyway.

I used to not be allergic to nuts. But in middle school, I realized that they were triggering my asthma. The last time I accidentally ate nuts, I broke out into hives up and down my arms and my tounge and throat swelled. I have an epi pen, but thankfully have never had to use it for foods. I'm extra careful. Now the stuff I'm allergic to is really not appealing. I have substitutes that I can use, like sunflower seeds and soy nut butter (which has no nuts), but the real stuff doesn't even appeal anymore because I know how it makes me feel

I realize that I'm very fortunate though. Sure, my allergies are numerous and pretty severe, but there are those who have way worse reactions than I do and who are far more sensitive than I am. I also have allergies that are easy to avoid. There are kids who are allergic to milk, eggs, and/or soy. Those are awful to deal with. I'm sensitive to dairy products, so I limit how much of them I eat (minus cheese, which is okay for some odd reason), but that is certainly better than having a full blown allergy.

arggh, stop reminding me.
I have to buy candy AND finish some designs for halloween

I recently bought 6 bags of "snack" size candy bars for trick or treaters. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed how much smaller the bags are this year?? I'm having second thoughts: I may need to go out and buy 2 more bags, just to be sure we have enough for the children who ring the doorbell on Halloween.

Meanwhile, my dog hates Halloween, because of all the little people invading his "den". We've learned over the years to keep him in an upstairs room, with the door shut, so that he won't run down the stairs and scare the little kids at the door! :jawdrop: (That doesn't stop him from barking up a storm, however!)

My dog barks like crazy too. Everything including candy is getting smaller so companies can get bigger. Companies are run by humans so I don't get it. Unless aliens are running major companies.

That makes sense. It must be that aliens from Mars are running the companies, and that's why bags of candy are getting smaller and smaller. Aliens have a sweet tooth, and I think they're absconding with about 6 candy bars per bag.

Speaking of unwanted aliens, glad to hear you scared off the spider. :D
