Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
Very scary words, but let's put that all in perspective. 9/11 happened in one day. This has already taken probably over 3 months. Second, there weren't 331,000,000 million people in the Twin Towers at ground zero. There is no ground zero in this case and all of us are exposed and vulnerable, yet it is only approximate same number. It will go higher but there are a lot more people directly involved.

I'm not downplaying the actual tragedy, in either case, but numbers with the emphasis put in the wrong place is as dangerous as the problem itself. It's like making a jaded statement that the US has exceeded the number of people with the illness then the current hot spot of Italy. Well, duh, Italy 59 million people vs. USA 331 million, of course there is going to be more. I'm also sure that we have not received truthful numbers from China either nor do we have reliable statistics. Paraphrasing Rudyard Kipling — 'If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs, you will be the winner'.

I just thought it was an interesting benchmark on lives lost in volume.

on the topic you introduced

I do not believe China # are likely accurate
I do not believe USA # are anymore accurate

Summary. We have a history of fudging numbers now. We have a history now of squashing numbers. Do I anticipate the accuracy of the numbers being more accurate down the road? Nope.

Faster to make food at home then to wait in that line. Ok, so maybe not but it ensures people have jobs in the end.
Oh trust me. That was just part one of the wait. On the flip side of that building were parking spots that faced the road, maybe 25.

The initial line only moved when a patron was brought out their order and vacated one of the 25 slots.

They were all very nice. I would do it again.
likely they will all fine tune their routines

Don't see why not. Take outs aren't essential.
Okay, you're not American, so let me explain...

In order to keep our economy going, we have to have shipping from various part of the country to another. That means that truck drivers have to drive from various parts of the country or another, and that means that they need to be able to stop, go to the bathroom, and eat while on their routes. If you close take out places, you make it much harder for the truck drivers who are still working as if it's business as usual to make sure that the rest of us can have enough toilet paper. Sure, they can get preprepared stuff in the grocery store, but who wants to live off of that? Pennsylvania shut down all of their rest stops and carry out places. It was a major problem for truck drivers in a state that you can spend hours driving across.

Not to mention the doctors, nurses, and others coming off twelve hours shifts who might have long commutes home (sometimes over an hour; it's not unusual here in Maryland) and then have to feed their families...who wants to worry about meal prep in that situation.

Sure, the average person sitting at home on their butts could spend the hours of additional time prepping meals, going to the grocery store, and learning how to cook rather than getting take out, but keeping the carry out places open isn't really for them. It's for the essential employees who are still working, sometimes on overtime, who might not be willing or able to do meal prep. Not to mention that by keeping carry out places open with minimal staff, it's one less hit to the economy.

Thank you for educating a non American on the logistics of long distance haulage etc as anyone else in the world wouldn't be able to comprehend this 🤔

You're a ferret on an island. I don't know what you understand. 😁

My point being that it screws everything up if we totally shut down. Lots of long haul drivers here do in fact need take out places. I can understand why on your little island, it would make sense, but it would be a mess here.

There is a huge difference between a takeout place and a truck stop.

Not really along I-95. Plus, truck stops have vending here, not places to actually get real food.

And as I pointed out, it's also for essential workers who still have to go to work who might not have the time/energy/willpower to meal prep. I mean, if I came off a 12 hour nursing shift (not unusual) and then had to drive home 30+ minutes (also not unusual) I'd still want take out places open. Plus, then we have some local businesses that won't take as much of a hit.

It just makes sense to keep them open with precautions for as long as possible. Again, maybe in your area it does make sense to close them, but here, it doesn't make sense to totally close them unless we're completely in dire straights; we're a bit too dependent on them.

What I find more amusing is that liquor stores are considered essential businesses...

Liquor stores, tobacco and weed are essential here, apparently.
