So glad I took a 1/2 day off today.... work has been annoying this week and I was ready to be done! I knew I had made the right decision when I got out of a stressful meeting this morning, full of changes that have to be made on a big state mandated project we are working on. My anxiety was high...

yay for having the forethought to take 1/2 day off!

I haven't had Sloppy Joes since I was a kid! I forgot how much I liked those. They sell the sauce in a can, right?
Go to the area in the market where they have powdered seasoning packets. (i.e. Chili, gravy, etc.) There will be one for sloppy joe's exclusively. One pound of 90% ground beef, one small can of tomato paste and a small amount of water (instructions on the seasoning package). Follow the directions to the letter and you will make perfect sloppy joe's. All you need, other then that, would be hamburg rolls or whatever bread type product you prefer. You can add other seasoning to taste, but, that would be up to you. I never felt I needed to add anything.

Thanks for the tip about the tomato paste. (I would have thought the Manwich had the entire recipe in the can, so it's good to know that I'd have to buy a small can of tomato paste as well.) :)

Recently on PBS they had a show about how food around the turn of the century was totally unregulated. The stuff they added to canned food was disgusting. Canned meat supplied to the army during the Spanish American war was so rancid the troops would not eat it. Things like formaldehyde, borax, charcoal added to coffee, paster of Paris added to milk, milking cows fed on beer brewing waste and the cows were so sickly the milk had no nutritional value, people were dying from the additives. If it is on again try to watch it. Glad for control now

manwich is the whole sauce, he’s talking about using a powdered packet. With the manwich you need just a pound of burger cooked and drained, add can of sauce, heat through

Manwich is a brand name not a recipe (just add meat). I did try the Manwich once for what it is worth. I think that to have more freshness of all ingredients one needs to get McCormick Sloppy Joe seasoning. It's very simple and very quick. BTW, I am not getting a kick back from McCormick. :p
