The Character Experience !

@real mad hatter - I don't think there is a right or wrong answer here. Some teens, young adults, and adults are great with character meals- even if they've never done one. On the other side, some just don't see the point. The best thing might be to just ask your son.

As for you, with your love of Disney and being in the magic bubble...I think you'd probably enjoy at least one pre-park opening character meal. MK is my fave park for this, but it's pretty cool to be in an empty Epcot or have almost total peace walking through AK. DHS is about the only park where the pre-park opening meal isn't very exciting from a park wow factor perspective. On top of that, dining in the Castle is a cool experience in my opinion and I love looking into Living with the Land when dining at Garden Grill.

I love character meals for the experience. I feel the food, like all food at WDW is way over-priced, but I feel better about it all when I think of it as an experience and not just a meal. You should do breakfast at CRT before the park opens so you could get great pics before the park opens, and starting your day out eating with a few princesses is never a bad way to start one's day! ;)

I would say book in for CRT . It's something thats not for everyone but as Mr Hatter seems to like the princesses (and i am sure hatter mk2 wouldn't object) then this is the one i would go for.No it's not cheap or the best food on property but thats not the point. We ate there on our Disneymoon and it was awesome. The princesses were great and we got a special set of champagne flutes from there.Asprevious posters have said i would get an early ressie as you can get the empty park pics as well. Also there was a photo op with the Fairy Godmother on exiting the dining room which we did and got her magical blessing of the union :D. Coincidently she also spotted us later on during the parade and made a point of giving us a wave and tapping her ring finger with her wand

I literally dont feel right if i go to Disney without having a character meal!
I love doing CRT! It's an amazing experience just to be in the castle, i tend to forget about the princesses (apart from Ariel of course). But the food is gorgeous and the experience of being in the castle just makes your trip more magical!

My daughter and I wouldn't dream of it now but when she was little we loved the character dining at the Garden Grill, the food was fab too. All you could ribs and chicken and lovely mashed potatoes with gravy. I wouldn't give a thank you for the food they serve there now, we tried it when they switched menus initially and we haven't been back since.

I'm more shocked you haven't ever done a character meal!

Yea, if you're son is at "that age" where he'll be too cool for characters, I'd say pick the easiest one for him and do face characters- Akershus or CRT. The ladies flirting with him might be passable, or just say "Hey, you're too cool then you can go get a burger while I go hug up on Cindy!"

There is charm in a character meal. As a foodie, I prefer to do a breakfast character meal. The Cape May meal was in my hotel lobby, the food was excellent and I got to get my picture taken with a bunch of characters without waiting in line. For some reason, I don't find them cheesy or weird. It is something fun to do in WDW. Hell, I have been attending a few here locally at DL lately just for fun.

You know after 5 trips consisting of 56 days inside the bubble,I've never done a character meal..Breakfast,Lunch,or Dinner...Now Hatter junior will be 17 on our next trip, and there's no way he's wanting Mickey & the gang hovering over our table..:joyfull: Don't get me wrong, on our first trip he was just 6 years old and got his photo taken with every character he saw..Some we had look up,who the hell they were..I could be way wrong here, but I think teenage girls still enjoy interacting with characters more than teenage boys..And to be honest,at my ripe old age,I'd rather put my $$$$$ towards a nice signature meal than a omelette with Winnie & Co....What are your thoughts on this.?

Its just my DH and I. He goes to character meals just to humor me. He has fully admitted that he likes to eat in peace but he does it to make me happy. :) And he has said that he will fully appreciate it when we have some littles but now, he would rather eat with out characters.

We didn't start taking our DD to Disney until she was 11 so most of her character experiences have been as a teenager. And I'd bet that she wouldn't say no to the fun now that she's 20 . But if it's just the 2 of us we're more likely to spend the extra on cocktails;) Not the signature dining types.

We never did a character meals until we had kids. Now we have done 2 each trip (or will when this next trip comes) One with Mickey and Friends and one princess. I like getting to get a bunch of character done at once. Saves us having to do those characters if we see them in the parks.

As a teenage girl, I definitely agree that I still thoroughly enjoy interacting with characters and character meals. In fact, I might even appreciate them more now than when I was a small child. But, my boyfriend also really enjoys interacting with characters, so I think it just depends on the boy as to if they still get a kick out of the characters or not :)
