The Center of WDW

Yeah, the logo in Epcot represents the center of the property at the time EPCOT Center was built. But as you mentioned, over the years they've de-annexed a few pieces of land (Celebration, the Four Seasons plot, etc), which had shifted the current center.

Actually, that's a myth as well....That was added in 1994 with the Innoventions changes. In 1982, that was a nice green flag park.

The center is near The Land now, I think.

I had thought that the center breifly was in EPCOT, outside the land, there is a circle of great scientists going away from the land towards the fountain, the breezway, and the center was the center of WDW

Here is a Survey Marker I found outside of EPCOT. It's on the walkway in-between the Boardwalk and the bridge on the way to Hollywood Studios.

Any thoughts? It's the only one I found.

-This picture is of a GPS Survey marker. If you really look around, they are all over disney world. They are used as the baseline control for the whole park. Basically when they do any new construction, the coordinates and elevations are based off of these markers. I am sure that there are monuments similar to these all along the boundary of the whole walt disney world property as well. When im down there I spot them all over the place, im a surveyor so its just kind of natural.

Those are actually all over the property.

That's it! It's right after going through the breezeway heading toward The Land. But as posted before, the "actual" center has been iffy for a few years now since the size of the Disney property has changed a bit.

wasn't the original center a few hundred yards away and they had to move Epcot Center over to accomodate a protected bird, some kind of woodpecker, hence the name of a backstage street that is called by the name of the bird.

Never heard of that, of all things. The EPCOT (both City AND Park) Plot has always been in the same place. There are pictures of Walt choosing that very site.

Did some digging as I had heard the origins of my last post from a tour guide. The endangered bird, the Red-Cockaded Woodpecker was discovered nesting within Epcot Center's construction site, they had to move the entire construction project 300 feet to protect the birds. There is a service road backstage Epcot named after the bird as a reminder of the conservation effort.

I got this info from a blog that is full of cool information...

the center of WDW is actually in Epcot its right behind the 2nd fountin...on my 1st day of orentation as a new CM they had all of us stand around it and it was announced over the loud speakers to all guests standing by that we where the "new recruits" talk about embarassing!!!! :D

Ah, the memories of being a new recruit! I had the same experience in 1998 when they did the same thing. and it was embarrassing, but at the same time a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction! :sohappy:

If you are still a CM, cherish everyday, it will be the highlight of your entire life! I only worked for WDW for a year, but in that year I have become a Disney Freak! I eat sleep and dream of the day I can return for a visit! I miss that place SOOOOOOO much! My role was truly THE best job I have had in my life! I know how to get around WDW/Florida more than I do my hometown! HONEST!

But after 10 years, I am finally returning for a visit in 2011:sohappy:

Thanks for the memory!

I was near the entrance to Cinderella's Royal Table resteraunt one day walking around when I saw the doors open, I had never eaten there before so I thought it would be interesting to look inside. I walked toward the door and a cm asked me if I had a priority seating. I said no I just wanted to see what the inside looked like. She said no problem and she took me inside and let me see the entire resteraunt for the most part. Then she escorted me out and then she showed me a medium sized metal circle near the door ( it has been a long time now so I am not exactly sure where) and she told me that is the center of Walt Disney World. I thought it was interesting but u probably all know it.

Thats pretty cool :sohappy::animwink::wave:
