All you 'youngsters' on the forums - a note of caution:
Yesterday was yours truly's 50th birthday (Yes there are a few of us 'oldsters' lurking around here - note: my mental age is around 18-21 at the most) :D
I had planned to spend it at my favorite restaurant with my family -
I spent it on my roof putting down tarps to protect all those areas where "Isabel" ripped off the shingles. Then dealing with the broken patio door and bedroom window I was also left with. And dumping the contents of the 'fridge and two freezers...:hammer:
Moral of story:
When it was all done, I pulled out my reservation confirmation for our Christmas trip this year, and then got out my PowerBook and looked at all the pictures I took of our trip last July (Mac users - don't you just love iPhoto?) -
And - All Was Right With The World.
I love Disney World...

I see you are in Hampton, VA. Has power been restored to most, if not all of Hampton?

Are people still looting there?

The reason I ask... I have a friend in Hampton, and I have not heard from him in a few days.

Well, Happy Birthday! (a day late)

That was a terrible way to spend your special day...but it beats the alternative. My Disney pics always make me smile too.
(and I'm another oldster....almost 46 :eek: )

To the best of my knowledge there has been no looting.
As far as power - we got ours back about 4PM Saturday - but over 700,000 are still without in the area.
Reference the looting- where did you hear that? People here have been very well behaved, even stoic about it.
It's odd - I've got power ( and even cable!) back - but two blocks over, no.

Hmmmm Thats odd.....

CBS Network news at the 2:01PM Eastern time update, reported: that about 60 people in the Hampton area were arrested for looting local convience & gas station stores.

I like your version better though jojoyner55 :lol:

Apparently you and my wife are correct - unfortunately.
I guess in a Disney induced euphoria I was trying to think the best of my fellow man -
Sad, but I guess I should know better.
Heck, I even try to find reasons to excuse the strolder wielding, line cutting, handicap faking people I encounter at WDW -
I'm an old fashioned kinda' guy - I know the jerks are out there (you can't spend twenty years in the US Navy and come out naive, after all) I just like to think that people are better than that.
Gees - Remember Pollyanna?

Hope life gets back to normal up there soon. It sounds like you had minimal damage and that's a good thing (think 4 feet of water in the house). A friend of ours doesn't expect power in the Richmond area until Friday; thank goodness he's from here and knows to keep the handy dandy generator ready.

Still haven't heard from my niece in Woodbridge...hopefully we can get thru today.
