The Avengers Flight Farce

I wanna tell you guys a little story about a ride called Avengers Flight Force.

Once Upon a time there was a cool ride themed to rock music called the Rockin' Roller Coaster. It was really fun and had Aerosmith. They decided to bring it to Paris, and though it was a less cool version, It was still fun!

Then one day some GENIUS decided to turn the entire section of the park into something resembling a tech company HQ in Silicon Valley. The Rockin' Rollercoaster became.............

Watching TV, the Ride.

Where did they go wrong?

Who greenlit this?

Why exactly did they think this was worth making?

and just.........Why is it here....

It's the cause of, and solution, to all our problems! ;)

It's not that terrible, but it's not great as it's basically a roller coaster in the dark. It does seem like they spent all their money on the new building and queue, both of which are great.

At any rate, it's apparently common knowledge that they need to do something about the on-ride experience. When I was having an after-park cocktail (or two) at the lounge in the Sequoia Lodge a few weeks back, the very nice server was going through her favourite rides and mentioned this one as being good for the sensation but that the show wasn't very good. Found it interesting that this view has jumped from the online message boards to the Cast Members working there.

I also don't think the ride is as bad as was it was made out to be. If they can fill in the gaps I think it will be a solid attraction. Personally I prefer the lighting effects that are at the end of the launch and just before the brake run to the screens so hopefully more effects like that will be added.

Well. We rode this yesterday.

Fantastic queue and pre shows. Nice visual effects in the launch.

Then. Ouch. How did this get approved? Sparse screens interspersed by literally nothing. A completely pitch black corkscrew that’s just begging for some visual effects. Such a huge let down in what is an otherwise solid makeover of the land - more like a re build - that really does the park proud.

I’m happy to say the additional visual effects are already being installed. They’re needed. It has the potential to be a great experience if done right.

I’ll also comment on one potential serious flaw; the projection timing. We sat in row 2 and consistently missed the end or the pay off of the videos. They didn’t start late; they were just behind us for the end of the story being told - particularly the last screen where those sat up front don’t even know if they saved the world (again) or not.

LOL that's a good point it's just kinda nebulous (no pun intended) and then it kinda leaves you hanging. Much like how the original RNRC never actually takes you to a real concert (but for obvious reasons lol unless they wanted to make an animatronic Aerosmith version of Country Bear Jamboree).

I also find the screens to be of poor quality though this may just be the videos of the ride messing them up, but they seem to look like they were top of the line when Fall Out Boy was on the top 40 charts

Agree that it goes downhill after launch. The projections are closer to Hyperspace Mountain than they are to Cosmic Rewind.

They did a great job on the building and preshow, but at the end of the day, its pretty hard to take a pre-existing ride and try to wrap a new story/them on top of it. However, since it is just projections, there isnt much excuse to not just fill the whole space with interesting visuals as you zoom by. The story itself is pretty weak to begin with, so they should have just bombarded you with eye candy.

Mission Breakout doesnt make any sense and the ride system has no business being used to try to tell whatever story they are going for, but the ride is such a sensory overload and just basic fun, that you can forgive the nonsensical way they turned ToT into a Marvel ride. They should have done the same thing here.

Hopefully they put a little extra $$ into it and continue to add effects.

Refuse to criticise this ride in detail whilst the madness of Web Slingers sits next door.

Flight force could be better, and I’m hoping the ongoing changes make a difference.

You’d have to pay me to ever queue for the monstrosity that is Web Slingers, ever again in my life. It’s the single most disapointing Disney ride I’ve ever been on.

The above might sound extreme, but you go on Dumbo, you know you’re getting Dumbo. When you’ve experienced the long reigning, once best ride in the world at Islands of Adventure, and you see Disneys effort nearly a quarter of a century later, with all the advances in tech…nope. Get in the bin 😂

I was talking to an Orlando and Anaheim regular about this last week whilst in Paris. His first visit to DLP. I think there’s a comparison and expectation thing about this. I’m in no way saying Europe should get lesser attractions or poorer quality - and will always agree the IOA ride is far superior - but given the context of the park it is in, the possible fact most Europeans have never seen TSM, a 3D effect as close as this, ride vehicles like this or the interactive element like this, I think Web Slingers is a positive for the park. Certainly seems to be going down well. It also fits this version of the campus well too, IMHO of course.

I’d ride again. Just maybe not in a 60 minute line.

I'm curious, I was in california a few months back and chose to do other things (can do Web slingers next time I'm in Paris and I go once a year or so, l last time just before AC opened). My brother and nephew went on and said it was the best ride there, better than Rise, smugglers (my favourite) cars etc everything!

Was their opinion an anomaly, or is the paris version just not as good?

yeah i thin webslingers is a pretty fun ride, even though its in a park with TSMM. Regardless, outside of these forums most of my friends and their kids really love the ride. Its a great c ticket dark ride imo but not worth an hour wait. Last time I went to DCA the wait was like 30 mins. I will say though, it does kinda suck in Paris esp because from what Ive heard the showscenes are the same as DCA even though Paris doesnt have the ToT, and also I dont think Paris has the flying Spiderman which gets a huge crowd

Put me firmly down in the Webslingers is trash camp. I also dont like Midway Mania.

These types of rides would have been great 20 or more years ago, when you couldnt have a better gaming experience at home, these days it is just a waste (IMO). I will say that I can see a place for Buzz, Men in Black, or Monsters Inc (Tokyo), there will always be a place for a physical shooting gallery, but mindlessly yanking a string or swatting flys at a 3d screen...no thanks.

It is too bad that they went this route with one of the biggest IPs they have at their disposal.
