The 60th Anniversary of Disneyland: The Reality of it All

If these Star Wars fireworks Spirit is talking about come to fruition, I will have almost have no words. I'd rather see Fantasy in the Sky.
I know I've been at odds with you as of late (and no personal offense intended with any of it) but I agree fully. Disney is making boneheaded decision after boneheaded decision and this Star Wars fireworks rumor is just the latest. So much money coming to Disneyland but none of it is being used for anything right this moment. Just stuff that's coming in a couple years.

To be honest, I might take a break from the Disney fan "scene" for a while. All this news is leaving me feeling like the wind's been kicked out of me and the worst part is I'm willingly subjecting myself to it all by coming onto sites like these.

I really liked the Star WArs fireworks at Hollywood Studios, but I don't think they belong in Disneyland. If they need a little Star Wars in the fireworks at DL then bring back Remember with the little Star Tours part.

I'll probably regret asking, but what's wrong with bringing the SW fireworks show to DL?
Historically, Disneyland never has had a fireworks show based on one property. It's always been a medley of Disney movies. It just doesn't feel right to me that Star Wars will become the default Disneyland fireworks show. It doesn't seem like this will be temporary to me.

Save them for the inevitable Star Wars weekends post opening of SW land. Makes no sense to have them as a nightly occurrence throughout the year. And PTN taking a break, what a bunch of idiots they've become in my favorite park. Don't get it at all.

It's a big departure from 60 years of fireworks shows, all of which featured music from multiple Disney films, and with the exception of holiday shows, Tinker Bell's flight over the castle. Any time that kind of established norm is disrupted, there's going to be backlash. While I think a Star Wars show could be fun as a seasonal promotion, I don't like the idea of it becoming the standard non-holiday fireworks show at DL. I'd personally rather have a typical Steve Davison Disney-filled extravaganza with music and projections and flying characters and a sparkly castle.

But haven't we seen that over and over? What if Steve Davison produced a SW spectacular? Would it still be problematic? I understand that it's a departure, but every show is (or should be) a step away from what was before. I guess my question is why all the SW hate?

If they do a Star Wars firework show, I bet it'll just be to keep the Star Wars hype going in the park until Star Wars opens.

But I wouldnt mind seeing them come for awhile. I hear they are really popular in WDW.

And to me, I don't look at things never done before as an automatic negative. The shows at the parks can be so same old, same old, I think it would be a nice change to the norm.

So out of curiousity I googled the DSH SW show and what a disappointment! And I generally love Disney nighttime spectacles.

This one had me like...

It's at least 5 minutes too long. They'll need to step it up big time if they plan to bring this to Anaheim.

There's the crux of it. I'm totally cool with the temporary seasonal offering, since the alternative was pretty much nothing.

Spirit always has good info, but sometimes poor prognostication when his personal feelings are involved. SW has a lot of emotion for him.

Which is another way of saying I highly doubt the plan is to make this the new permanent night offering that lasts for years and years. A timed movie promo or something that kicks around a little too long (WOC: Celebrate)... but not "permanent".

These projection-pyro things are becoming easily swappable at the drop of a hat.

Why am I so confident? Princesses... they can only be kept away for so long. It really is kind of ballsy that they are even thinking of giving only one brand the limelight.

Permanent or not, this is still BS.

Why is the idea of a firework show solely dedicated to the Star Wars franchise being presented at Disneyland floating around at all? Better question, why is this not okay to some folks, but an entire land dedicated to Star Wars at Disneyland that will stay for most likely decades just fine and dandy?

You've taken the arrival of Star Wars at Disneyland very personally, and you've made it abundantly clear here that you disapprove and why, so I won't bother questioning that. What I do wonder though is why after a year since the official SW Land announcement was made you flat out refuse to accept the changes. Do you expect to keep the line drawn indefinately, calling BS forever until you die, or at some point do you think you might surrender to the fact that a big SW presence at Disneyland is the new normal and let it go?

A temporary thing I'm more okay with. I just took his post to mean that it's gonna be sticking around for a long while ala Remember.
