The “wealthy” is not going to work

I’d be more concerned on high heating costs since MN winters are unforgivable. My cousin went to school in upstate NY “ below the the snow belt “. I have no idea what that means since he gets a lot of snow.
You are so right about the heating costs. We live out in the country so our options are limited. Our house has floor heat and electric baseboard heat. Half of the floor heat does not even work! Baseboard heat is extremely expensive. So, we have LP gas backup. Our highest electric bill so far for a month has been $550. They average 300 or 400 during the long winter months. That is in additon to using the LP every cold day too.. We prepay LP gas and usually get 500 gallons. This year we are prepaying 600 gallons with a price increase. It is very expensive to live up here, but at least our 2 weeks of summer are good, LOL. The prepaid LP gass doesn't even last the whole winter. If it wasn't for the family living here, I would really consider leaving Mn. and going to S. Dakota. They have low taxes and not as cold weather.

Ranked how?

Because that’s a highly subjective thing…”high”…when it’s not compared to what you get out of it. And it’s hard To do that in an unbiased way. But it’s always presented as “objective” by fools who want to pound their fist and rant.
NJ is one of the highest, Avg tax rate is 2.75% of assessed value. in Fl for example its .97%. it varies by county and town. NJ has 665 municipalities and almost everyone has its own fire, police, town hall and so forth. A huge portion of taxes in NJ is the pension system for Fire, police and teachers, plus their pay is higher than other areas of the country. Teachers in my old town were making around $75k plus full pension after 25 years. Had aunts that retired, got bored and went back as Special ed teachers, worked till 65 and got another pension, so now they get 2. There are a lot of things why NJ taxes are high, i love the state, people there are great, food amazing and family still there but i left for FL years ago and not going back except to visit. i can truly tell you i pay less for everything here with a bigger house than i did in NJ.

I’m not disputing any of that. I’m just saying “expensive” is a subjective term that has to take into account a ton of factors. It works better or worse depending on their details. Florida is “great” in some ways…it’s not objectively great.

Same for any state. My current, my native and my former. Trade offs
